A hidden gem in Brewer if you like Mexican food. Went with a friend for lunch on a Wednesday and was very pleased. Reasonable pricing, inside and outside seating (not a lot of either but enough the day I was there), and good food with a nice portion size. I splurged and got the chicken chimichanga, and was happy it was a modest size (not the huge ones I often see). Was able to enjoy fried food and not be over stuffed or over indulgent. Stopped here for lunch today while in Bangor for work. This is not a sit down restaurant, but you do counter service then there are tables to eat at. The service was friendly and quick. They have a bar and different types of beers and even out door seating. The food was super fresh. I got the tacos and the soup and they were amazing and like I said sooo FRESH! My only compliant is that the chips were stale( but you get them for free). I will for sure come back and try some different stuff! read more

I hadn't been here in about 5 years, it had been good in the past. Maybe I hit it on an off night but I don't think I'll waste my time or money again. It took over an hour for our food. When we got it was severely disappointing. The meat in all the dishes was seasoned ok but extremely dry. The salads were bland. Chimichangas were way over cooked. The side of rice was dry, bland and the serving was about a tablespoon (they said is was definitely enough for two people to share). Asked for some sides of sauce, didn't receive them. read more

I was asked if I was okay with a 40 minute wait on a Tuesday night which I agreed to. Upon arrival they accepted payment immediately. I then waited another 20 minutes for my food at the restaurant! I have been coming to Pepino's quite literally all my life--my parents lived right across the street at the time I was born, so I was in there as a baby. This is difficult. I don't enjoy being negative. I use Yelp frequently so I feel it necessary. I've tried Pepinos either here or in Bangor a few times over the years in hopes that things have changed but unfortunately they never fail to disappoint. The service is always great. The servers are generally friendly and helpful as is typical in Maine (only reason I gave two stars)but the food is marginal at best and waaayyy over priced. I stopped for a quick burrito to go. I ordered the burrito supreme special. I got a small ( approximately 6" x 2 1/2") microwaved soggy mess. You can't microwave a tortilla to the point where it's translucent and expect anyone to like the doughy mess it becomes. The inside was scalding hot the tortilla was falling apart. The lettuce was cooked. (all wet and stringy like wet grass) It was pretty bad. It came in a styrofoam container with no chips salsa or sauce of any kind. Even Chipotle understands the best way to serve a burrito is to wrap it tight and apply regular external heat to warm the tortilla. To boot it was a ten to fifteen minute wait and cost $9. For a "Taco stand"?? I hear they make a decent margarita but the glasses looked pretty small. If someone from Pepino's reads this, please understand, I want you to do well so keep in mind: Mexican food should be: Cheap Fast Plentiful And Flavorful One should leave a Mexican restaurant feeling uncomfortably full and a little guilty for getting so much deliciousness so cheap. It's that easy. I live nearby and would love to be able to have a real ( or even close to real) taco stand nearby. read more

Pretty good New England Mexican food. The hot sauces are hot and the highlight of this extablishment. If you are expecting a big california rice and beans burrito, check those expectations at the chalkboard menu! These are simple burritos, think frozen burrito size and filings. This joint is a freakin joke! Possibly worse burritos than the frozen jobbies made in Mongolia by camel herders and shipped through North Korea, 50 cents a dozen in your 7-11 frozen foods section. Excellent Mexican food. A small restaurant which bills itself as a "taco stand", they specialize in take out orders, but the small, casual dining room is relaxed and comfortable. I eat here a couple times a month. The food is acceptable. It's slightly over-priced for what it is (90% of the dishes are essentially a mountain of shredded lettuce, a tomato slice and a small burrito). As I order here every 2-3 weeks, Just know that take out takes 1+ hour. They will tell you 20 minutes. If you wait 35+ minutes to get there, you will still be standing in line for a minimum of 20 minutes even on a monday. This place has improved significantly over the past few years. They easily have some of the best fish tacos in the state right now. The standard American beef tacos are okay, but the specialty tacos are what you need to go here for. The house made hot sauces are also excellent. Good value, great tacos, win. read more

I was super excited to have a Mexican restaurant in downtown Bangor. But I'd been to pepinos on Stillwater Ave in Bangor and hadn't been impressed. I thought I'd give this place another try after many friends had visited. I love this location it's cool to have 3 different rooms. But the food is... meh.. I ordered a burrito and enchilada combo. Plain and blah. The burrito was just shredded dry chicken and cheese, and the enchilada was dry shredded chicken, no cheese, no green chiles or beans, and a little sauce, topped with lettuce and tomato. I didn't bother to eat the enchilada. And the burrito hardly filled me. The rice that came on the side looked the most interesting but still no flavor. We also had guacamole that didn't taste authentic, more like it had been squeezed from a tube.. And most meals were $10-$15? For canned chicken and cheese? Bland, boring, blah. Had a great drink though and the accommodated our large party quickly despite their early closing hour. But I wouldn't return. Oh well! read more
