The restaurant is situated away from the tourist path in Trieste and bills itself as "innovative"; it is listed in Michelin but recently without stars or good service marks. Anyhow, one expects a very high level of culinary skills at such a place, and Pepenero Pepebianco disappoints in this respect (3.5 stars would be more fair).
We have tried the degustation menu. The food was good, occasionally inventive, but always bland (it was the first time in my experience that I had to actually use the salt and pepper shakers in a Michelin-mentioned place). Few dishes were of the "safe" variety: pretty good but the ones you would expect to get from a skilled home cook.
The ambiance is good, the service efficient. The place is definitely OK for a good meal or even an occasion, just do not expect any culinary delights. Reservations might be essential. No parking anywhere in sight. read more
