While reviewing my itemized bill, I noticed a $9.99 "maintenance reset fee" and a $10 per tire rotation charge. The tire rotation charge made sense, but I questioned the reset fee since I was already getting a full service. I called a few other Pep Boys locations and checked online (while in waiting room ) and was told that this fee is typically only charged if no service is being performed. I went back to front desk & I spoke with the associate, who was kind and helpful. He checked with the manager, who seemed a bit annoyed and explained that the reset is considered an extra step and not necessarily included. After some discussion, he applied a coupon, which I appreciated, and I left feeling somewhat satisfied. However, once I got my car back, I noticed the rear tires had not been rotated to the front as requested. I knew this based on the tire brand placement. I called back, and after checking with the technician, they admitted the rotation had been missed. Overall, I'm disappointed. My name is Tara Griffin. My car has been at the Pep Boys shop in Corona for 6 weeks. I have an Audi Q5 2013. I have been communicating with Alfred, Dana, and a mechanic named "Henry". Fearing being "taken advantage of as a woman", I authorized the team to speak with my husband, Robert Stewart--though I am the owner of the vehicle. This past weekend, I made several attempts to connect with Dana, the office manager, with no replies or return calls. I had my car delivered to Pep Boys in Corona, Queens, on October 5, 2025. After receiving a diagnostic exam, I was told that the bill would be over $3500. This is way more than the car is worth! I was given authorization for mechanic, turned assistant manager, Alfred, to self-source the needed parts--as a means to reduce the hefty price. My husband and purchased the needed parts, not without prior authorization from Alfred. Once the work was seemingly done, I was alerted that the car was cleaned and ready for pick-up. I was issued an itemized bill for $1852.40 and paid it immediately. I was alerted on 11/3/25 that my vehicle is ready for pick up, then suddenly I was told that my car is not "working" and a part that I was previously quoted as costing $800 is now $2200. On wednesday 3:45, we had an appointment for a nail in a tire on the driver rear side. By 5:49 they indicated that only one tire could be patched and another tire has nails and we needed to buy a tire. I indicated that my husband would be there and would make the decision. My husband returns for them to refuse providing paperwork that they managed our car to find additional problems on our car. They also refused to tell us where the issues where or what the issue was if we refused to buy the tires. We asked if we could get one tire at least patched and they said no we need to buy a new tire And just returned my husbands key. Coming to today, where we couldn't locate the wheel lock where it was in the trunk, and when calling I admit that I gave them the wrong date to see who helped us that day but either way they couldn't locate our wheel lock. This all happened because we tried to repair our tire at another service provider who said we didnt need a whole new tire. I went to drive to the pep boys and had to move my car in the drive way and had a hard time because my sensors were going off and doesnt allow me to get close to cars on top of being stressed of missing our wheel lock. the mechanic begins to make fun of me of how my car is too big for me to handle and how bad my driving is. when they finally wanted to try to help with the wheel lock they asked for my keys to check if its in my glove box. i gave it to them but then followed them to my car as i never keep anything but my paperwork and manual in my glove box. they put the wheel lock in my glove box and even the same man who made fun of me came close to my car next to the representative who put the wheel lock in my car. he continued to obnoxiously yell how im accusing them of taking the wheel lock without checking my glove box. i asked corporate should the mechanic be anywhere near my car when they arent servicing it they said NO. if the manager wants to refute this i already called corporate told them to check the cameras and see/hear how terrible the mechanic behaved. i have been a loyal customer even had a credit card. but that is gone. canceled my credit card and filed the complaint. This place does extremely poor quality work. I came in for a simple patch for a screw in the tire. Seems easy - they charged $50 (after stating on the phone it would be $30) and the patch leaked. Took it back to get the patch fixed and they told me that the hole was now too big and would not hold a patch. They incorrectly claimed that the tire would not hold any air, and I would not be able to drive it even a couple of blocks. I was told I would need to buy a new tire from them ($300) and that the car could be picked up the next day. The manager refused to put the tire back on. I ended up talking to the actual technician who did the work and he said the tire would leak slowly and the car would be drivable. This directly contradicted the manager who IS NOT a tech and did not do the work. He made everything up to generate a sale. This place has horrible service and tries to con people out of money and the front counter guy, Williem should really be investigated as I'm sure I'm not the first "cash" person he has tried to pocket. I went in to initially change my brake lights and to get engine coolant poured into my car. Before I handed over the keys to the car, I asked what are the associated costs and was quoted FREE for the coolant and $20 for switching out the rear brake lights if I provided my own supplies and parts. With the initial of 30 minutes to be seen and 30 minutes to service. Ok, I thought this is manageable and it would be 1 hour in and out. I was waiting a bit inside next to the counter and then William asked me to go outside so he can see my car. While outside he tells me that it's cash and I said I can pay for it when we go inside. He was rather insistent for me to pay him outside on the spot. I asked him that I would receive a receipt for these services right? And he confirmed I would. I went back inside with him to wait for the car to be serviced. I got a text message from pep boys that my car was being serviced, wiped down and ready for pick up in 10m. I went up to the counter to talk to William, and he hands me my key and the $20 folded very tiny as so that it could not be seen... then it hit me, this guy was trying to have a "side business". He said that he would check the status... well I went to go look on my online status and my car was now waiting for a mechanic. I just spent 3.5 hours waiting to be serviced and found out that my brake lights could not be serviced (totally understand the reasoning as it is outside the scope of the request and pep boys abilities).... but then was told it would $125 to change the coolant. I personally had a good experience with this Pep Boys. I came in to buy a tire. The person at the counter rang me up without trying to up-charge me or anything like that which I sincerely appreciate. During my tire installation, they had let me know that there was a bend in my rim, and they were honest about it. They took me in and showed me the rim where it was bent and told me what that means, as well as what I could expect if I chose to continue driving on it Fast forward to today. I came in with my brand new rim and they took care of everything for me. They took it out of the box that it came in. They threw out the old rim. They cleaned up my car a little bit when they were finished, the service here is really good and the staff is very kind and friendly, which I also appreciate I give this place a five stars. I also saved a good amount of money coming here because the dealership wanted to charge me $200 to fix and replace the rim. These guys did it for like $40 which is insane. read more

Pep Boys has going downhill and it's terrible now. Pep boys used to be trustworthy and high standards but now they just don't care. I arrived with at my 9 am appointment and no one greet you or talk to you. I parked and walked inside, sat for over 20 mins before someone acknowledged me. I quickly gave them the list of things I think is wrong with my car, and asked for their opinion and prices to fix them. I wrote them down before leaving the store since by now I'm late to work. I called around 3pm to check on the update, they said they still working on it.. it's been 6 hours. When I arrived at the store at 5:30, they missed all the things I wrote down for them, including what's the water sounds in my car, is the suspension ok since I heard noises, the back wheel is leaking air can you fix it? They just brush it off and basically told me to go to Lexus dealership for those issues, so what's the point of the 175 dollars charges? The person who was working on my car didn't even bother to come talk to me. The person who gave me the bill has no idea what's been worked on and what are the issue my car has. I'm not worried about the cost. I come in, I want my car issues fixed, I will pay for what is fixed. But now I have a bill of 175 and nothing is fixed and told me to go to my car dealership. Pep Boys in Woodside provided great work in a very short period of time. Saved my behind - we were moving out of state in a few days and desperately needed to replace my car's starter. Left the car with them Wednesday afternoon and got it back early the very next day. I only asked them to replace the starter but they also reattached my front bumper (which had been knocked out of place in an earlier fender bender) at no charge to me. I was able to drive to our new home 1800 miles away with a car that wasn't all banged up in the front. I'd call that great service. read more

THESE GUYS ARE TOTAL SCAM ARTISTS I called this shop to see if they can replacement both headlights on my SUV. I was told that they can provide this service for $33 per headlight. That would be a total of $66 for both lights, at least that is what I believed we verbally agreed upon. About 30 mins into the installation, Steve informed me that one of the headlights would be difficult to replace because it would need the removal of the front bumper. Also that it would be time consuming and additional fees of $278 would be required to complete the job. They originally quoted both headlight bulbs replacement for $66 total but then tried to include the additional hourly labor costs to my original quotation once they realized the complexity of the job. You cannot change the previously agreed upon quoted price midway through the job!!! That is not the way business is done and is quite illegal. They are absolutely unethical and you should avoid them at all costs. I will NEVER do business with them ever again and I suggest you do the same!!! read more

Nothing but scammers here. Went for an oil change and nys inspection. Calls me about 2 hours in stating that my rear shocks are weak and I have cupping on the rear tires. Won't pass inspection like that so I have to get it fixed. Quotes me about $1600 so I told him no my shocks aren't broken or leaking, if you need to fail the inspection do so with a list of exact reasons. Tells me he doesn't want me to get a blowout and die and that it's dangerous , so I can open up a pep boys credit card and make installment payments with no interest. 4 hours later I pick up my vehicle and it passed inspection. I take my car the FTC shop to double check and the mechanic tells me nothing is wrong with my shocks and I have slight cupping on 1 rear tire, but doesn't need to be replaced for another year. Scare tactics didn't work on me. I assume cause I'm a female and they didn't think I'd know what they were talking about they could scam me. Do not go to this establishment for anything. It was a rainy, muggy day in November when my 4-year-old car overheated on the highway cause I was completely out of coolant. A little mind boggling since I passed inspection just a month and a half earlier... About an hour later, I finally pull up to this Pep Boys on Queens Blvd for them to give me more coolant but also flush the system, etc. to ensure the reason wasn't a leak. I waited nearby at the Starbucks and fielded calls from them as they updated me on the coolant issue (no leak) and a separate issue they found regarding my brakes, which I was already aware of. Though they were a little disappointed I wasn't going to shell out more than the $200 necessary for the coolant / reservoir flush job to replace my brake pads too, overall, I felt the communication and timeliness to fix the issue I came in for was great. Had I written this review that day, they would have gotten 3 almost 4 stars since I felt my concerns were warmly addressed by the tall-ish desk guy with glasses. The review is 1 Star though, because a month later, checking under the hood, I discovered that AGAIN I had nearly zero coolant in my reservoir!! This is even particularly alarming because the car had probably less than 100 more miles on it since I took it to Pep Boys because I switched to another car shortly after to avoid the brake issue until I was ready to fix it. The family friend who helped me double check under the hood is a mechanic and has worked in shops like Pep Boys before. He said it's standard practice for these guys, under management's request, to short change customers on the service work they claim they've done yet still charge full price. He also speculated they probably had no problems trying to swindle me too because I'm a female. While this latter part may be pure speculation about Pep Boys' willful shady practices, the facts are irrefutable that one SHOULD NOT have an empty reservoir of coolant less than a month after having the system flushed and refilled by professionals who already determined that a leak is not the cause. My car got a flat tire. I brought it in to get it checked out and was told it needed a new tire, cost $280+. I asked why, and was told the wall was damaged due to the flat. WTH?!! So, I said I wasn't going to change it, instead to replace the flat with my spare tire. I was charged $70. I negotiated to reduced the fee, since that price was insane. It was reduced to $46...still too much. I paid it since I had to get home. The next day, I took my car to my mechanic and was told the flat tire just needed a plug, and he charged $25 for it. Went to Pep Boys for a "second opinion". I visited a service shop who gave me a long list of items I needed to have addressed or fixed. The amount of the quote was exorbitant. Of course, I didn't agree to use that place. A few days later I went to Pep Boys with my list. Chris was especially helpful. He eliminated 2/3 of the items as not needing to be done after he checked all the fluids that were recommended to be changed and all the hoses and systems that were recommended to be serviced. In the end, my total cost was 75% less than the first quote! Also, like the ability to make appointments. Very convenient. read more

But the funny thing is they present to me an estimate repair bill to fix all the things that are wrong with my car. I ask the friendly service man working the counter what is the repair man in the shop trying to do? Drain my bank account? I personally spoke with the repair man name Vinny who was the one saying i needed to change everything and he tried to con me into spending $3900 on a car that is 3 years old. My car needed a full overhaul. Time belt, coolant, among other things. Somehow they got my car running really smooth even though she is old. Definitely not a cheap job, but car definitely runs better now after they extensively fixed all the issues. They called periodically to give me updates. I'm not sure if some of people who reviewed this place understand how an auto shop works. Auto work takes time- most people generally make appointments, drop off their vehicles, and pick it up at a later time. It really irks me to read reviews from people who are complaining that the shop (any shop, not just this one) refuses to take them close to closing. These people need to recognize that there are other cars ahead of them, and the auto shop made a commitment to those people who have probably waited much longer to have their vehicles worked on. Try waiting in an NYC ER for 4 hours for stitches while bleeding the whole time. This is not a life-death situation guys. Anyway. This is a generic chain auto shop. I hate that car maintenance is time consuming, but it's a responsibility that comes with owning a car, especially in the city. So I'm not going to reduce the rating for this place just because taking the car to the shop is a chore to me. If you don't want to deal with the maintenance, and if it's that hard for you to wait a couple of hours, maybe rethink owning a car in general? The staff has always been polite every time I've been here. They notice if people are waiting on line, and if things are moving slowly, they acknowledge those people to let them know they will be serviced as soon as possible. I will be the first to admit that I almost never make appointments because I like to be spontaneous (aka, lazy) so I always walk in. I've only ever been turned away once (because I was asking for 2 jobs an hour and a half before closing. The weekend before Christmas). Again, not their fault. They gladly made me an appointment for the next morning. I have to add that they've checked several things for me free of charge. They could easily try to up sell me on services I don't need (which I've experienced at other shops). This easily earns them 4 stars for never trying to scam me. They are very clear about the assessments and costs. I am also a member of their free loyalty rewards programs so I get regular coupons for service discounts, which is great. As with any appointment (doctor, work meetings, government offices, etc.) expect that it will take just slightly longer than they quote you. That is, so far, consistent at every auto shop, chain or private, that I've been at. Whenever I drop my car here, they get my work done in a reasonable amount of time (within an hour for most things, two for multiple jobs). Although, if you look on yelp, there's plenty of nice cafes and restaurants within walking distance. The shop always calls me when the car's about ready so I can head back. The waiting area isn't too bad if you have a good book and good set of headphones. So far, I've had a better experience here than most other places, so I'll keep coming back. read more

I had always thought of Pepboys as a friendly reliable place. Been going there for years until I started doing an archive of all the repairs done to my vehicle. Come to find out that they charged me twice for a fuel pump. I was told the second time that it was a sensor. I had no reason to not trust them and like always, "yes please go ahead and make the repair". Then I discovered that I was charged a second time for brakes. It was still under warranty but they omitted that fact. I have tried to deal with the district manager (Deric) and his attitude was more of passing the buck. Telling me that if I feel that there has been criminal activity, that I should have a police report done. Every email sent, I had to follow up as he would not reply. Now I will be dealing with his superior (Sherwin). I will give it one last attempt and if they don't refund me for the second brake job, I'm going to court. I placed my trust in Pepboys and it clearly shows that they took advantage of me. I will never go back to them. They over charge, double charge and over priced labor. My only advice is to make sure you get a receipt if paying by cash. Apparently signing off with the amount paid is not an official receipt. Like I said, I trusted these guys and thought nothing about the hand written receipt.....I was so wrong. Definitely avoid this place. And the customer representative who appears to be compassionate about your issue and wanting you to email them at pepsocial@pepboys is insult to injury. While I was waiting in the waiting room, the workers kept coming in and out cursing up a storm only to realize it's a bunch of kids that work there. The icing on the cake was, when I realized 60mins into my wait that my car wasn't in the bay anymore and was in fact ready. I came in to replace all four tires on my Jeep Liberty with all terrain (A/T) tires. I had an appointment for 9AM, dropped my vehicle off at 8AM, it was not ready when I came back at 5:30PM. No big deal, I returned later that night: not only had they installed H/T tires instead of A/T, but they put mismatched specs on the same axle! 225 on one side, 235 on the other... When they finally had the right tires ready 4 days later (4 A/T tires with the right specs), the manager was very friendly and apologized, I was about to leave, relieved... And then I decided to check pressures with him. At first they didn't even know the correct pressure specs for my tires. Turns out it was 35PSI. Front right was at 23PSI, front left was at 41PSI... Yes they can get stuff done, but you'd better double check everything. I don't think I will trust them again with anything on my vehicle in the future, at least not this location. Sorry! By the way I reported this issue on the website since it is a safety issue, I just got a phone call asking me if there was anything they could do, but for me the harm was done. read more

Very friendly and I had the oil change and tire rotation. He called me and mentioned I needed a state emissions inspection in a couple of days and they could do that while I was there. I said yes. I was able to take care of everything in one place, Pep Boys! They took care of me, the price was darn reasonable and I'm happy as a clam to have this all behind me. I came in to get a tire replaced. I noticed my inspection was expired. They come back out and say you failed because your check engine light is on. Mind you it was on when i pulled in and I'm sure it's for changing the oil but you think they would have said we can fix that. I asked them to fix it but he didn't give me an answer and just charged me $40 for the failed inspection. They removed my inspection sticker so now i have no sticker and my car isn't inspected. What kind of garage let's a car leave with no inspection? Every garage i have ever gone to always completes the job and isn't looking to make a quick dollar off a customer. We went in for a few items of service and were told that they don't do alignment check anymore ("haven't for years") and that tire rotation is only done "if needed" (when they see a difference between the tires and is done at a long interval of every 10,000-12,000 miles. We overheard another customer get a quote for tires and the customer asked if they are doing the free tire promotion. He was advised no but was only then informed of free installation with a different brand (and that would save him $100+). SCAM ARTIST ALERT! FRAUD! They misled me, and now they're harassing. I'm referring their auto repair shop to the DMV and taking them to the court!! I scheduled an appointment to get a quote on a number of things and planned to get an oil change if I had them do the work. I was told they would call me with an estimate before they did ANY work. When they called with an estimate that was almost $3,000-a complete rip off by any standard. I told them immediately not to do any work and went to pick up my car. When I arrived, they told me they went ahead and did the oil change and billed me for it even though they were told not to do any work. They then also told me I was being billed close to $100 for an estimate, and I was not told it would cost me anything to get an estimate. It felt like they were trying to bow just find any way to get money out of me. When I told them I didn't approve the oil change, they immediately took it off the bill. When I told them I wasn't told the estimate would cost anything, they talked to the manager and then gave me back my key and car and said "I was good to go." I made an appointment this weekend to bring my car in today at 11am for a diagnostic light repair. I already knew the repair that was needed as it was a sensor. My vehicle was dropped off at 11am on time and hours had elapse without any update on the status of my car or call back, for something that would take at most a technician 15 minutes to confirm and advise on next steps. However at 2:52pm I started to call the shop to get an update. Numerous calls made from 2:52pm until 3:23pm. I called from multiple devices and was continually hung up on, the phone was not answered, or the one time I got through to someone they placed me on hold for about 15 minutes and at which point I hung up and decided I would make the commute to the store in person to get an update. When I get to the store the care wasn't even looked at and the "supervisor" advises its because there was work being done in the parking lot. The type of professionalism that I was met with from this PEP boys location today are simply unacceptable. I do not feel that what the customers are asking are unrealistic, don't offer appointment slots if you can not honor them within the hour of the appointment, have staff answer the phone reliably, and have staff communicate to customers if there is going to be a significant delay on the service. These are all factors that impact brick and mortar businesses and customer loyalty. read more

I had made a reservation and ordered tires a week ago to replace (4) tires. When I got there, they confirmed the tires were ready and asked me to come to pick up my car in 2 hours. When I went back to pick it up, they were waiting for the tires to arrive. I was able to pick it up in another 2-3 hours. I had to waste the whole afternoon. They should have called me at least to let me know the delay. There was a promotion going on, "buy four tires and get one free!" However, they charged for all four tires. On top of that, one of the tires was installed reversed inside out. Now I have to go there again to reinstall. So frustrated. Later, I found that the recipe/document showed that they recommended replacing brakes, and I refused it, which never happened. I don't know if I can trust their services and skills. read more
