Contrary to the reviews, my experience was actually pretty decent. I had initially come in for a flat tire, but after they inspected it, they said they can't patch it up and it needed to be replaced. I called up Costco for the tires I needed but they wouldn't be able to get it in for another 2 weeks. Midas said they'd be able to get it the next day. So after ordering it for the next day, I came back and it got done within the time frame they stated (within 2 hours). During this time, I was able to work in their lounge area through their wifi. It's a decent space and works fine if you're able to do remote work. It was a relatively straightforward experience for me. Though it might've been a bit cheaper to go through Costco, at least I didn't have to wait 2 weeks and was able to get my tires replaced the next day. read more

Did not put ANY oil in my car, I paid for an oil change with 6 qts of oil bc they have ZERO clue what they are doing when it comes to high end european cars (my car takes almost 8 qts). I immediately went back and they claimed I could not have driven if I had no oil in my car, clearly the residual got me across town... so they proceed to add 4 qts of oil to my car. We dropped off our car expecting a $35 standard oil change as advertised on their website. We were very clear when setting up the appointment that we did not know what type of oil our car required. The technician performed the most expensive service they could using the most expensive oil. They did not tell us in advance that they planned on doing this or explain what our car "required," so we were very surprised to receive a bill of $100 -- double of what we would have paid at the dealer. When we requested that they discount the service because we were not charged what we expected, they were only willing to give us $9 off. I took my car in to get it ready for the winter. First was the oil change, but I was told I needed to get the breaks fixed, which I knew. They couldn't do it that day, but I came back a week later. I wanted to wait and I did, only to be told it would take longer. I got a ride and they kept it over the weekend. On Monday, I got a call from the assistant manager that the tech wasn't comfortable fixing the break lines - they had to be rebuilt as my car was pretty old. I said I would come in on Tuesday to pick it up and drive it to a dealer. On Tuesday morning I called to make sure my car was okay to drive with low brakes. The manager had been off and wasn't aware of the problem. He called me back and said - we are a full service place and he would take care of the service himself and the cost would be lower than originally quoted. Today - Wednesday, I was able to get my car back and it drives like new. I am very appreciated of the service I received and for Louis taking charge of the situation. The worst customer experience ever! Deduct 1 star from my review because 0 stars isn't an option. Was sold a defective battery, tried to return it, but store manager said batteries aren't refundable. Was told he could warranty the bad battery and give me a new one, so I informed the manager that I already paid for a new one at my mechanic's because the car died 3 times in a two-week period after Pep Boys "technicians" installed it. I have gone here consistently for 2 years and thought it was decent, if slow, but things have gone downhill. I went in and they told me I had one wheel bearing which needed to be replaced but that I would be fine to keep driving until they located a part and called me within the week. It has been 2 weeks now and I received no call, so I took it to another shop for a second opinion. They said that BOTH the wheel bearings needed to be replaced and that I should not have been driving as it was. Additionally, whoever took the tires off to check this had fully stripped all the lug nuts which will have to now be replaced as well. read more

I've gone here twice for oil changes. The first time I was able to walk in and the process was quick. My most recent experience I called that morning to see if an appointment was needed and they told me the earliest they could get me in was 3pm. I told them I would take it. They said, "okay" and was about to hang up until I asked them if they wanted my information for the appointment. I gave them my phone number per their request. I got there and they had no appointment in their system. Luckily the gentleman Chris was able to get me in for the day. I waited about an hour and a half for them to complete everything and my oil change cost me about $55. It seems like my car has been driving fine with no issues. I would give it negative 5 stars if I could. Bought my car In For oil change. The technician's name Starts with M didn't place the funnel in correctly, and spill the oil ALL OVER the engine. I saw it happens when oil drip down all over the floor. Spoke to the receptionist and he said they will clean it. As soon as I got out of my car from 5 minutes drive home, I saw smoke came out of the hood and a very bad smell. I waited until all the smokes are gone and took a look. He didn't clean anything. I posted this on google maps, thought I should copy it here. This message is for anyone who must use Pep Boys Services - advocate for yourself, push back on the prices and charges. This place is awful. Not the service, not the staff. The charges and the slimey ways in which they try to up-sell and overcharge. Read on for 2 separate bad experiences when pep boys tried to rip me off. I've heard various other stories from friends and family, but I'll limit this review to my own 2 examples. 1. I had a coupon for a $25 oil change, so I thought, that's cheap, let's do it! While I was waiting, the mechanic comes out and asks if they can clean the filters and replace another filter (all together, 3 different filters?) and it would cost $180. For a $25 oil change. I said no, absolutely not, just the oil change. He proceeded to try and convince me the necessity of the filter work, so I asked for a few minutes, I googled it and called my bro who knows a bit about cars. Both sources made it clear that there was no emergency, and I could forego it. So I told him no. A week later I took the car to my regular mechanic who cleaned the filters and said nothing needed to be replaced, and did it for free. 2. My car window was stuck down. It just wouldn't go up. I dropped it off the night before and waiting the next morning for a call. The mechanic called and said it would be $325- $95 for the part and $230 for labor ($115 an hr!!!!), but I said even though it seems so expensive to me, go ahead. I went to pick it up and the bill was $430. They added a shop fee of $35 and diagnostic of $45, neither of which were in the original quote. I asked why the mechanic, who had already completed the diagnostic when he quoted me for the part I'd need, didn't quote the price of the diagnostic or the shop fee which is apparently included in every transactions. "Oh sorry, he should have, he knows". I had to get upset and say I couldn't afford such a high price to fix a window, and finally he removed both hidden charges. What bothers me still is, any other customer will continue to get charged those fees which clearly aren't necessary, since I got them removed with the click of a button by getting upset. That's slimey. It clearly means those fees are not necessary. It means that customers MUST defend themselves and push back against these hidden fees and rip offs. I will remember next time to avoid pep boys at all cost. Such a horrible business model, and it doesn't reflect the work that is done or the quality of the products that they sell, just the foundational style of sales this company holds dear: take as much money as possible from unsuspecting customers. read more

Horrible customer service experience this morning. A week ago I spoke with the manager (Dan) at the Pep Boys on Ridge Pike in Norristown about the total cost for an oil change. I was very specific about getting what the cost included (taxes, any surcharges for oil disposal, etc). I was given the cost and then I asked if I could apply the 30% off coupon for the oil change special they were running to the price he just quoted me. Dan told me I could, that I would just need to show the coupon. I arrived for my scheduled oil change and was given a higher cost than the initial quote from Dan. I reviewed my conversation with the manager Dan and the 2 service reps said they would honor that price Dan had given me. Then I informed the 2 service agents that Dan said I could then apply the 30% off coupon to the price I was quoted. They said "no way". I asked them to get Dan on the phone and they refused. I asked if they wanted my business or not. They handed me the keys so I left and pursued an oil change elsewhere. First of all, Dan should have put notes in the system (ie. in my appointment record) relative to our conversation (just as I took copious notes) so that the service reps were knowledgeable about the conversation and avoid the situation that occurred and the loss of business. Who knows, maybe my car needed more work -- they lost out on that too! read more

Decided to come here since it's closer to my house, appointment was at 6 came in about 15 minutes earlier they took my car. Staff was not very friendly like the one on king of Prussia which is my go to. I had fuel injection flush took until 7:06 then a woman comes through the back asking the guy that was doing my car for wheel pressure. Which took less time from my car, I don't mean to be rude but at least in the king of Prussia location they respect turns and do stuff quicker and it's busier. I went to ask when was my car gonna be done which they said it was gonna be in 45 minutes. So basically wasted more time of my Saturday evening. Thank you Pep Boys! My Check Engine light came on while I was visiting from out of state and as I was about to return home yesterday, a Sunday. The Check Engine light had been a recurring issue with this car, and I had recently gotten this "charcoal canister" replaced because of it some weeks earlier in my home state. I was hesitant to use this Pep Boys here because of the low rating/not-so-favorable reviews, but it was the only place available that could see the car the same day, on a Sunday. I'm glad I took a chance because they indeed were able to diagnose the issue quickly, which was the hose/plug from the canister (the same thing as an evaporator canister, as termed by Pep Boys) had come out to cause the Check Engine light. They plugged it back in and tightened the connection and tested the car to ensure the Check Engine light no longer was an issue. Before long, I was able to get on the road and return home. The total was $116 and change, all in all, which was a fair price given what was entailed to diagnose and fix the problem (I believe the upfront diagnostic fee around $100 is about standard). The process went overall smoothly; I asked about what time I would expect to hear back from them regarding a diagnosis and was told around/by 2 p.m., and I got a call back at 1:20 and was told what the nature of the problem and that it was fixed. (Of course, I guess it helped it didn't appear too busy at the time I took the car in.) Enrique was my point of contact there, and he managed the process and communications politely and professionally. I hope to update this review if, down the road, the fix doesn't hold, etc., but I'm not expecting that to be the case, and until then, I feel I can rate my experience here as 5 stars. read more

I have taken my car here 4 times now: first time was for inspection. I chose this place because they were one of the cheapest for inspection and they are very close to my house. Then two times to fix a part, another time to check the squealing of my brakes, and then recently again for an oil change. I keep coming back here for the following reasons: 1. They are fast and efficient 2. Their prices are reasonable, they dont overcharge 3. The staff is extremely nice 4. It is very close to my house. I will continue to bring my car here for all its service needs as I see no reason to take it anywhere else *edit* I have just read all the bad reviews after writing my review, my review is legit, I guess I have been lucky having good experiences there thus far but I will be wary in the future if I take my car there again read more

A catalytic converter shouldn't have anything to do with an oil change, but knocking something in the process or worse is the likely culprit. Taking no responsibility or offering nothing. I had my car towed there Monday night because it wouldn't start ($59.99 thru Pep boys.). Tuesday morning I called as soon as the shop opened and explained the problem to Randy the store manager. He said he would have a diagnostics run on it ($89) to see what the problem was and call me back. I call back 4 hours later and was told it hasn't been checked yet. I call back at 3:15pm and was told by Randy that it's being done now and he will call me back once completed. After not hearing anything by 6pm I call back and was informed by another associate it was never done. I asked for Randy and of course he was gone for the day. I called back this morning (Wednesday) Randy is of course off, the person on the phone said he would try to have the diagnostics run this morning but the person doing it leaves at 12 and is off tomorrow. I have purchased parts/tires and serviced my vehicles there of the last few years. This time around is shameful. Just got a call at 12:41 stating I need a new fuel pump, in-line fuse and relay kit. Apparently all 3 went bad at the same time??? $725. Labor- $950. I asked why so much and he said it takes 7-8 hours, then I inquired why so long and he stated there is only 1 mechanic who can do it and he will be working on other cars. So It sounds like I will be paying for labor on a job that should have 2 hours but because he's jumping from cars it's going to take 7-8??? read more

I made an appointment for 9 am to have a hitch installed on my car.The guy I spoke to on the phone the night before told me "it takes about 30 minutes but give it an hour". The guy that checked me in told me 2 hours. 5 hours later as I was leaving I checked under the car and discover that my newly installed load-bearing hitch, which is designed for and comes with 8 bolts had only been installed with 6. This seems dangerous and negligent and may open Pep Boys up to liability. The service manager said that particular one came with 2 bolts missing but should in fact be installed with 8, admitting that they incorrectly installed the hitch but had not been forthcoming and did nothing to fix it. When I questioned the manager he acknowledged the installation was wrong but did nothing to fix. This could be a significant safety issue as the weight rating of the product on Pep Boys and the manufactur website is based on a proper 8 bolt installation. That is not what they sold me. False advertising. I waited 5 hours and paid $200+ for a hitch I can't use. Bad experience all the way around. I'm also wondering how many other people's hitches Pep Boys has installed incorrectly, just counting on the fact that most people won't crawl under their car in the parking lot with a flashlight to check. read more

I needed an oil change ASAP and this was the closest Pep Boys with a vacancy on their website. I got there on time. It's not Jiffy Lube so I had to wait awhile - about 40 minutes. They had a relatively comfy waiting room - this isn't a Lexus dealership. I sat and played with my phone. The time went by quickly. The service manager Josh was friendly and professional. He didn't try to upsell me. I used some coupons so the whole thing took a little more time but saved me some money. I don't know what people expect. I heard a lot of rude, demanding customers ... I went to this location and scheduled work on my 2017 Malibu. The windshield washer pump was not working. I scheduled the work 3-4 days prior to the weekend the work was scheduled. When I arrived at Pep Boys I was told by the counter person this work could not be preformed. He did not even give option as to preform this repair on another date. When I emailed the corporate customer service they told me a local supervisor would contact me. To date no one has called to discus my visit to Pep Boys. Update 11-17-2017 as expected no one at Pep Boys cares about customer service. This is the second time I was told someone would contact me. These are the type of companies everyone needs to avoid. A few weeks ago I went to this Pepboys to purchase a set of windshield wipers. There was a great employee named Luis at the counter. It turned out that I picked up the wrong type for my vehicle & he went to get the correct ones. After I paid for my purchase & was about to leave, Luis offered to put the wipers on my vehicle even though he was the only employee in the store. As I'm disabled, I greatly appreciated his help.
