Backstory: It was in the 5pm hour when I started making the rounds to see if any auto shop in the…read morearea could do an inspection for me. (Two year old car- nothing difficult.) I was turned away by every single place. "We're closed" some said, "the mechanics went home already" another one said (an hour before closing! Really?!) Finally Monro was my last stop. He couldn't do it then, BUT, he offered to make me an appointment! Four shops turned me away and this was the first one to actually attempt to keep my business! Fast forward to appointment day: I got there on time, they took my car back. I sat in the waiting room. The show "Naked and Afraid" was on... that was awkward. Not the best option for a waiting room, but then again I was the only one there at the time so... not as uncomfortable as it could've been. My car was done before I knew it. Maybe 15-20 minutes. I had a coupon, he redeemed it, I paid, he handed over the keys, and off I went. Easy peasy! This place is a no-frills, no-drama, in-and-out shop. They're not dismissive like the other guys; they act like they appreciate the business. Just come here first and avoid all the running around.

Went in for a $21 inspection, left with a $222 bill to replace a brake light and license plate…read morelight in order to pass. The work took all of 5 minutes to swap out the old bulbs, the labor fees are wild here. But the thing that bothered me the most was when I asked the guy "hey is it normal that I'm having to replace bulbs in my Subaru constantly? I'm not even getting a year out of each bulb"... a genuine question I was asking as I don't know how often people typically need to replace burnt out bulbs. This guy spoke to me like I was a total idiot and said "well they're just lightbulbs... and you hit bumps don't ya?" Crazy response. My bulbs are burning out fast because I hit bumps? Come on. I've never had this issue in any car I've driven so was honestly wondering if something is wrong or if that was normal. Everyone I've asked since says it doesn't seem normal in the slightest. So I'm not sure if this guy just assumed I was stupid, or if he spoke to me that way because I'm a woman or what, but I'll definitely be taking my business elsewhere and regret not reading some reviews in the first place because it seems most customers are unhappy as well

Update May 2025. After the last debacle, the regional manager sent me a free oil change coupon…read more Time for an oil change, I went to the Lockport location. They told me they could not accept the coupon for some reason. I called the number on the coupon, and was told that indeed that location was a separate franchise and didn't participate, but Clarence did. Oh boy. The continuing story looked gloomy. I went to Clarence. Tony the manager told me that Lockport is under the same ownership as his location, but he'd take care of me. Another odd twist, but whatever. The experience at the Clarence shop was phenomenal. Night and day from the previous hassles with Valvoline so far. Jordan, the bay tech, was courteous, clear, concise, reviewed recommended services without ever being pushy, did the lights safety checks, offered me to donate to Ronald McDonald house...quick and efficient, while being genuinely politely engaging. Communication among the team while services were being checked off was superb. It was immediately clear that Tony runs a tight shop, with professionalism as the foundation. I didn't get any additional recommend does services at the time, but I will definitely consider Tony's shop when I am ready to get them done. Stellar team.

Well, let's see... I first took a motorhome to Hillmans for…read morea "pre-purchase" inspection that was apparently never done, as when I had to remove the engine cover weeks later, there was an animal next, obviously old, on top of the engine block. Hillmans told me the unit was in good shape. 2 weeks later, returning from our second camping trip (local, thank goodness), we overheated. Since I had already scheduled service for a generator that kept stalling and a refrigerator that didn't get cold (thanks for the "pre-purchase inspection...), I added that to the list. After two days, I called for an update and was told the radiator needed to be replaced. Three days after that, I cancelled my scheduled camping trip due to not having a motorhome to go in. I was told the new radiator was $1500.00 but they could send the old one out for a re-core. A week after than, I again called for an update and they claimed to have not heard from the radiator shop but my generator had been repaired and the refrigerator was cold. I expressed my displeasure that Hillman had not called me and that I had to keep calling for updates. Long story short, they never called me until I called complaining and, after two weeks, I had a new radiator and a refrigerator that still wasn't cooling. The generator was untested. Ricky at Hillman told me he'd price a new reefer and get back to me. Still waiting for that call. Meanwhile, the motorhome has been leaking transmission fluid in my driveway and any other place the unit has been, the generator continues to stall and I finally got the reefer working myself. The motorhome is now at another shop, and the first question I got was "who put this radiator in? All the transmission lines are cross threaded and leaking". I paid Hillman $3,000.00 for all this work and the only thing I got was excuses and a poorly installed radiator. Lesson learned.... 10/8 - Update from the shop fixing what HIllman didn't: ""Good evening Bob, just letting you know I literally just closed the hood on your RV & it's all set for pickup tomorrow....Please give me an idea when you're going to come by and pick it up.... We will talk then about going after the place that did this terrible butcher job." and "but we definitely need to get your money back from those hacks."
