1 STAR -- I would NEVER trust Pep Boys with my family's safety again. I wish I could give zero stars! We went to Pep Boys for brand-new tires, and a couple of days later, my husband and I were driving down La Brea with our four children in the car when one of the tires they had just installed CAME COMPLETELY OFF THE CAR and went flying across the street. Our car slammed to a stop in the middle of the road! I cannot even begin to explain how terrifying that was. Had we been on the freeway, driving faster, or surrounded by heavier traffic, this could have ended very differently. We could have been seriously injured or killed. Pep Boys had the car towed back to them and told us they would take care of the damage. They kept our car for about 3 weeks, and when they finally returned it, we weren't given documentation explaining what had been damaged or what had been repaired. Even worse, the car still wasn't driving right. It shook badly when braking and did not feel safe to drive. After everything my family went through, Pep Boys initially offered us $3,000 with the condition that we would not discuss the incident further. We ultimately had to take them to court. They fought us instead of simply taking responsibility, but we won our case. What started as a simple trip to Pep Boys for new tires turned into a tire literally coming off our car with our children inside, weeks without our vehicle, additional problems after their repairs, and eventually a lawsuit. A tire coming off a moving vehicle isn't a minor inconvenience or poor customer service. It is a serious safety issue that could have had devastating consequences for my entire family. I came here 2 Sundays ago, thinking I needed my brakes done. They looked, said all was good, but I should adjust and clean the rear drums. Cool, done. Go to park the next day, and emergency brake won't engage. Called and spoke to manager Joe, who said just bring it in when you can. Fast forward to today. Ishmael (sp) couldn't be bothered. Was going to charge me, AGAIN. Said that if it was only an inspection, they didn't touch anything. Never did he pull up the paperwork. I had to go to the car, get mine, and come back. He then said, fine we'll look at it, it's going to be at least 2 hours. An oversight on their part that would take 5 minutes and he wanted to wait 2 hours! After complaining, he finally said he'd bring it in and look. An hour later, and it's still just sitting in the garage... Untouched!! Complaining again, he finally looked at it himself. He was under it for less than 3 minutes before they lowered it and took it for a test drive. Was that so hard??? Now! He's trying to tell me that there was nothing wrong. E brake works just fine. That all cables were attached. If that were the case, and you tried the e brake from inside the car before starting any work, why would you have lifted it? Ooopps! Back in the air again! I came to this location for a wheel alignment. Now you may want to clear your whole schedule or use your sick time or PTO if you're getting your car serviced here because you won't see that car till the end of day or next day..... I'm not sure how long it takes to do a wheel alignment but I dropped my car off at around 9am/10am..... the car got back to me around 2/3pm....... I'm not sure if it was other cars ahead of me or it takes hours on hours to do a wheel alignment. The women who worked the front desk was really sweet. If you got a car through Carvana and have a bridge crest warranty I suggest you let them know STRAIGHT UP! I had to reschedule my appointment because it was too late to take the warranty for the alignment due to the company being in a different state and they were closed at my original appointment time. I came the next day and that's when I didn't see my car until the next business day. Jk it took a really long time. I guess they did a good job because I didn't have any issues with the steering wheel turning. I came today to see about getting my breaks fixed and had an 8AM appointment, I get to the service desk and this this white guy, with crazy looking hair comes out and says can I help you? And I say I have an appointment and he asks me again?? And I was thinking we're like feet away from each other and you can't hear?! They supposedly were to do a break inspection, but I'm not even sure it was performed at all, I don't think they did anything....and he comes back to tell me, oh your car has 17K miles on it, and I think he used that as an excuse to get rid of me because more cars were coming.....and at the same time, I will be taking my car somewhere else to get a second opinion because I believed they lied! I'll start it with the fact that they have a super sweet, competent and bright receptionist. My experience started the night before, when they called to verify appointment and let me know tires were in stock. Brought the car in at 850 and it sat in the lot into 1025. Sitting and waiting in the waiting room, trying to be patient. They got it on the lift at 1025, removed one wheel and it's been shooting for now another 35 minutes as I write this, with no one tending to it. It's stunning what a difference just one or two employees can make in the quality of service from a business. Sadly for this Pep Boys the change hasn't been positive. I'm lowering my 5 star ratings here, going back 5 years and encompassing 3 different 5 star reviews, down to the lowest possible rating. This is all about the horrible service department. The store personnel are still superb as far as I'm concerned. I came here yesterday with every intention of buying a battery for my SUV. Pep Boys' current ads say "Free installation with battery purchase!". I talk to Jason at the service counter. Yes they have my battery in stock. But oh shoot, they can't install it because my car "needs a computer reset after changing batteries". And oh shoot, their machine to do that is currently broken. Ok, when will it be fixed? Jason- "I don't know". Will it ever be fixed? Jason- "I don't know". Maybe never? Jason- "Yes maybe never". So I start to ponder- Is the required machine really broken? I have my doubts . But one thing is for sure- Jason has absolutely no interest in having Pep Boys install this battery for me. Hence, I lose all interest in buying my car battery from Pep Boys. It's not like they're the only store in town that sells car batteries. And note to Jason- When you're blowing off a potential customer like you did with me, at least you could unbury your face from your computer screen for a few seconds and pretend like you're interested. read more

Every time I have ever gone for any type of help needing information from something as simple as replacing a battery to an oil change they say they can't help or because there are no employees available you have to wait days for it to even be looked at. Customer service at the service desk is a $xxt show. The guy never looked up my vehicle to see if he could offer assistance if I am a member of my vehicle was in the system, just sent me to another place. I have a car through FAIR that says they do a five point inspection with an oil change, the representative was too nonchalant and relaxed to make an attempt to look anything up. I literally don't know what they do there. What type of jobs they take. Meanwhile I'm in the parking lot after saying maybe those other instances of poor customer service were not the norm and one of people there was walking away to take call technicians is taking her phone calls. After being very patient, kind and understanding they still don't seem to have the wherewithal to professionally conduct business on such an expected level of the national name of Pep Boys. Jesse and Amber are really nice people, but I, as a consumer and business professional that's part time in the automotive industry, I need a company who'll stay on their staff and on top of things to assure you're keeping your word. Today was the third time related situation whereby my car took far longer than Expected and told it would. I dropped of my car at 12 noon and was told it would take from 2-4 hours. I arrived at 4:30 and was just told what my car needed. Why wasn't I contacted earlier? Why did they start on my car at the time I was told it would be finished? Why was my car just sitting on the rack/lift unattended as I walked toward the shop and waited in disbelief for several minutes? However, giving them the benefit of the doubt, they have new business with me, Uber and fair rental agency that increases their business. But they need to make some changes to accommodate and effectively MANAGE the growth. Like in this(my) case, when the demand is greater than the supply we (I) go elsewhere. They've always given an excuse and after a while? Excuses aren't good enough. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen... And\or get someone in there who can. And lastly, I offered a potential service worth several hundred dollars and they weren't to enthused about looking into rather or not they offered the service. But that's okay, I'll take the business some place else. OMG, I was just told that my car will it take an additional two hours. Now I have to take the star rating down another notch Again, nice people though I'm grateful for that and them.... ... When I arrived back to my condominium complex some of the neighbors were outside and saw me walking-which was unusual to them. So they asked what was going on. I told them "bad business with Pep Boys". Both of them said they had similar experiences and that I should never use them again-as they don't either.... Now that is bad business if the neighborhood is aware of the issues and they still haven't changed...
