I also took my police car fo the pep boys in fountain Valley on brookhurst where they did an excellent job with the wheel alignment as well. I went to their shop on Brookhurst because the warranty company for my tire instructed me to go to them. Let's just say that I will NEVER go there again. The guy posing as a "manager" John/Jon was an idiot. In addition to him being fat and lazy, he was rude. Although knowing that I was in a hurry, he got on the phone and proceeded to get into a lengthy conversation with someone. When I went to reach for my keys to go to the car to get my wallet to pay, he grabbed them and put them in his pocket. When I asked him to please hurry, he intentionally got slower and then mocked me on my way out with a disparaging comment about GOD. Brought my car into Pep Boys for a check engine light and rough idle, and this ended up being one of the most frustrating experiences I've had with a repair shop. Before even coming in, we had already diagnosed the issue pretty clearly -- the misfire moved cylinders when we swapped ignition coils, which is a standard way to confirm a bad coil. I explained this when dropping the car off. Instead of addressing that, they told me I needed to replace all four spark plugs for about $600. I trusted their recommendation and approved it. After picking up the car, the check engine light came back on within minutes and the car was still shaking exactly the same. The repair did absolutely nothing. I brought it back, and only then did they say it was actually the ignition coils -- which is what I had said from the beginning. So I ended up having to pay even more for the actual fix after already spending $600 on something that didn't solve the problem. On top of that, the car was kept for several days, causing a lot of inconvenience and extra costs on my end. This felt like a complete misdiagnosis and a waste of money. I would not recommend coming here unless you're okay with being upsold on repairs that may not fix your issue. Also had to pay $200 for a rental car since they couldn't fix my car for 4 days bc they were understaffed? So was charged $600 for a misdiagnosis, $200 for a rental car bc they didn't have staff for 4 days, and then additional $250 for the coils that I told them was the issue when I got there the first day. The manger said he would give me 15% off (said this was his manager discount )on the coils (they knew they were in the wrong) when I got home the receipt said military discount for 10% so got screwed over there as well. read more

I set up an appt for an AC evaluation. The coupon was 9.99. I had my son drop off car while i was at work and they asked who would be picking up car and they asked for his number. He's 16 years old. When they had estimate ready they called me and left msg to call back when i had a chance. I called them back and they said don't worry we talked to your son and he ok'd the quote. It's was over 1300 dollars, i told them to immediately stop working and put the original parts on and they said it's to late. So i hung up and asked my son what they told him and this is what they told him. they told him the repair would cost 13 and some change, he then asked if the 9.99 coupon would be added to that total or was included. Called to make an appointment. Was quoted $104 over the phone. Showed up and was given a $178 estimate. Front desk dude didn't budge. He also said the parts in bought from Toyota that were still in Toyota packaging was aftermarket and he doesn't know if it'll work. He then tried to sell me his parts. Another worker came in and tested my parts and verified they work fine. Front desk dude said as if he was doing me a favor was gonna knock the price down by 10%. That's still way more than I was quoted over the phone. I said that's fine if you'll accept the 15% service coupon I brought from Pepboys.com. He said I won't know if I can use that until after service is done. I said I need to know now before I sign your estimate. He leaned over to another associate and he said that coupon was no good. I grabbed my keys and went to Americas tire on Newland and Warner. Without hassle they quoted me $130 and I was out within 2hrs. I would NOT recommend this place. read more

I went to Pep Boys after my car wouldn't start. I told the attendant it might be the battery, but I wasn't sure. Instead of checking anything, he immediately wrote up a form to replace the battery without even diagnosing the issue. When I questioned why they'd replace parts before confirming the problem, he snapped at me and said it would be $30 just to check the battery. Online it clearly says "Free Battery Check", and when I called ahead (while waiting for my tow), the person on the phone told me not to worry about making an appointment and that they'd take care of me when I arrived. Yet this attendant insisted the free check only applied if you had an appointment -- and continued being rude when I mentioned what I was told. He eventually said he'd only charge me half price, as if that was a favor, but the attitude and lack of basic customer service were unacceptable. I left feeling disrespected and overcharged for something that should have been free. I won't be returning to Pep Boys, and I'd recommend anyone else go somewhere that actually values honesty and courtesy. read more

They Sent a text so I could see the progress of my car. Never updated so it looked like my car was not up at all. Never in my life have I waited this long to have fluids and air topped up. Almost 2 hours! I went to the back to see what was going on and three of them are standing there chatting away no concern at all. When they finally were finished or what I thought they were finished they pull the car out and tell me they have to put air in the tires which was on the list the two hours ago when I arrived. I don't understand how there are bad reviews as I've had the most positive car maintenance experience with them. Out of the 3 places I called, they gave me the best quote and had it done a day earlier than other estimates. They were communicative, checking in throughout and ended up charging me a hundred dollars less than my original quote (unheard of.) Will be coming here for any maintenance or tire needs in the future. They replaced the starter in my truck for a great price within 4 hours. Highly recommend. read more

These repair guys lied to me from the start. I took them for a quote on an oil change, rear light replacement, and rear door latch fix for my 2008 PT Cruiser. He gave me a quote on a biz card, but only after I asked from something in writing. Meanwhile, I had the oil changed elsewhere for a lower price, even though he claimed they are the most affordable around. When I took my car back for the rear light and rear latch, I was initially quoted $30 higher than previously. I let it go and proceeded. Next thing I know, the repairman came and said the quote was too low on the latch, that it would take him 1.5 hours to "take it apart". Later he claimed he feared he could not get it open again if he opened it and they had a new quote on the parts: $1000. I asked if they checked Pick Your Part, and he said it had to be new and showed me two random parts on the computer that totaled $1000. The total was going to be $1500+. I foolishly paid $1000 just to get the parts ordered. I asked if they at least fixed the rear light and he claimed he had to open the rear door in order to fix the light--another lie. I'm an 81-year-old grandmother, and now I believe they were taking advantage of me. My daughter got involved, pinning them down for providing me no receipt nor quote document, and one of them couldn't find in their computer whether any part was ordered. After waiting almost two weeks, they finally called and claimed they could not find any parts at all, they refunded my $1000, and I escaped a major grift. There are several places where I can order a new latch for less than $200, and the rear light has a bolt on the bottom, so the cover can be easily removed and a new bulb inserted. Multiple lies by multiple men--senior abuse. Do not hire them for any repairs ever. These people are very dishonest and do not keep their original quotes. They have now lost another customer that has used their services many times in the past. read more

I have never had such a horrible experience at a pep boys in my life. I brought my car in for diagnostic to determine why the heat and AC wasn't working. Agreed to the $80 charge for that and awaited a call for what they recommended to fix the problem. They called back saying they could fix the AC/heat issue for $450 but recommended an additional $500 of work. We went with the $450. Came and picked up my car hours and hours later only to have NEITHER the heat or AC working AT ALL. We called them and were advised to bring the car back. We brought it back and they again had it for HOURS and then called us and said it was ready. We showed up AGAIN and STILL NO AC OR HEAT. The "manager" said we could come back to confront the mechanic that worked on my car about the issue - I'm sorry so what does this "manager" do besides set up confrontations? We then had to come back AGAIN to have a "meeting" with the mechanic who was actually a nice person and FULLY AGREED the heat and AC were not working and let us know he checked a few other items and there were no issues - ITEMS THAT WERE LISTED ON THE $500 (now somehow $2500) of recommended work from the first person that helped us. They AGAIN took my car to the back and me and my husband then had to wait around in the lobby for them to finally? Do something with my car and the money I paid them. NOPE! Was then brought back into the shop area to be told by the most unhelpful, disrespectful, useless person "waz" I think was his name that told us this is all we'll get and he would give me $50 back out of the FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS!!! I let him know that will ABSOLUTELY not work and that we had been lied to and jerked around the last two days which he responded with "I wasn't there for that" - WOW. The whole time the "manager" is standing there being useless as ever and the mechanic went to hide. My husband then explained it was agreed over the phone with the first person this would be fixed for the $450 which waz responded with "our phone calls are recorded so I'll check that and reach out" we gladly said please do - but knowing dang well this was ANOTHER LIE AS WHEN WE RECEIVED THE CALL IT WAS NOT TOLD TO US IT WAS BEING RECORDED WHICH IS AGAINST THE LAW. McKenna wanted $219 just to look at it before tacking on additional charges. What a deal for an idiot like me that paid $2k for McKenna's extended warranty (was hoping never to use it for anything other than the free car washes). What a very nice, helpful store. My car remote key wasn't working and I figured it needed a new battery. They kindly put in a new battery for me (which I didn't expect them to do) and saw the light on the key was still on, so they figured out the battery had shifted so they realigned it and it works now (definitely above and beyond). Would definitely not recommend these guys due to my experience with them. Payed about double for a tire + wheel replacement I would have payed anywhere else. I was also recommended nearly $3000 worth of other repairs, but after taking it to a second shop they told me most of these weren't even necessary. On top of all that, after swapping my wheels they couldn't even throw my spare back in the spare tire compartment, they just tossed it in to the back of my trunk with my other flat tire without telling me. A well maintained, clean, and stocked store. Friendly knowledgeable helpful responsive employees. Easy parking. Bathroom a bit dirty for my taste but passable for Man's Number 1. If you lived in the LA area like I do and have been to Pep Boys in the LA area and then came here--you would give this location no less than 4-stars in comparison. You can't get the atmosphere and help in an LA store like you can here. I almost felt like I was in Phoenix. I ordered online for pickup. But before picking up I browsed the store and found a few cool things I would like to get next time if I can figure out how to install them. I came here for STP fuel injector cleaner which BTW--is like a shot of wheat grass for your car. You add it to your gas tank before you fill up to prevent problems later in it's life. It's preventative. Same with wheat grass--who knows if it helps or does anything--but it makes you feel good. It's not expensive--$7.00--but if you get clogged fuel injectors from carbon buildup that is like getting clogged arteries--no one wants that! So go to Pep Boys and get a bottle of STP Super Concentrated Fuel Injector Cleaner and put it in your tank when it is at least 1/2 empty at the gas station then fill up--do this after every time you get an oil change and it will keep your car out of the car hospital (dealer). It has a narrow neck on the bottle so it fits perfectly into the same hole the gas goes in. And I promise you after you empty the bottle into the tank and drive off you are going to feel a certain euphoria that will color your day with happiness. read more

Went to pep boys over 15221 Beach Blvd, Westminster, CA, 92683 for an engine mount replacement (730$), got the car back, same noises, nothing was fixed, checked the mount and it looks old and broken like the original one, took it to 2 other shops and they said that it was never replaced, called them back and they claimed it was replaced and that the manager would contact me, I can't afford to drive the car and do more damage, going to have to take it somewhere else and get it fixed. Basically lost 730$. Avoid this store, should have known by the looks of it and also when I was paying, the person in front of me was complaining and shaking his head. read more

All time worst customer service I've ever had in my life. I came today, March 18 2025 at 6:30PM to get a tire installed and mounted and I came 30 minutes before closing. I apologized for coming 30 minutes before closing and offered a $20 extra tip, and they were extremely rude and condescending towards me and refused to do the work because they closed soon. Mounting and installing a tire does not take more than 15 minutes, and they refused service BEFORE THEY EVEN CLOSED THE SHOP. Close at 6PM if you want to go home early, I have been working in customer service my whole life and never in a million years would I refuse service while we are still open. Do better Pep Boys, I will never be returning here again and will gladly take my business elsewhere. If I could do 0/5 stars I would. I held a very high standard for the crew and encouraged training and customer service as our highest priorities. As the years have gone by I have seen changes, some for the betterment and some not so much. One thing that has always been consistent is store management is always concerned about ensuring customer satisfaction. Both the store and service managers are longtime employees and can be trusted. After having a very negative experience at the Westminister location I decided to take my vehicle to Huntington Beach to have tires installed and alignment performed. They were helpful and offered me the best avaliable sales. In the end, I purchased 2 sets of tires for 2 different vehicles and had the vehicles aligned too. Don't get your car serviced at pep boys. I was ripped off. I bought new tires from different company and was told to have the alignment done. I took the car to pepboys and drove off with a bigger problem having the car pull hard to the left. I drove the car early the next morning all the way to Tahoe having to correct steering the whole way there. I left the car there for 5 months then returned to pep boys to make sure they did the job right. I spoke to a manager about what had happened and they still charged me a second time for the alignment and the car still pulls hard to left!! THEY DIDNT DO A THING TO FIX! As far as I'm concerned I want to let others know not to get service done at pepboys! Since they went from a full automotive service to this limited shop I see they can't even do less service correctly. read more
