The open, emergent curriculum fosters imagination, creativity and confidence, and gets the kids outside and moving their bodies frequently throughout the day. The school's focus on social and emotional skills has been a great benefit as well. We often comment that children from Nonotuck seem to have an easier time sharing and navigating conflict with other children. Nonotuck also offers a cooperative community of families and teachers working together to not only raise strong, intelligent, confident children, but also to support parents and families as they work through the challenges of raising children. Two have moved on to elementary school, and our son is in his last year there. First and foremost, we love what Sunnyside does for our kids. In a beautiful and warm facility, caring teachers helped (and are helping) prepare our kids for the next steps in their lives in a safe and stimulating environment. With just the right mix of learning and play, we have seen first hand the benefit of the Sunnyside approach as both of our daughters entered a Chinese immersion Kindergarten well prepared both socially and intellectually. I credit Sunnyside's deep commitment to a diverse environment for ensuring that my children were exposed to many types of people and approaches to life. Tolstoy wrote in Anna Karenina: "...if it is true that there are as many minds as there are heads, then there are as many kinds of love as there are hearts..." Sunnyside demonstrated this truth to our family. On top of that is the supportive and friendly community fostered by Sunnyside's status as a parent co-op. Our kids aren't the only ones who've made wonderful friends here, and the relationships we've made have persisted beyond the end of our children's enrollment at the center. The owner of the laundry (a friend) no longer trusted them to take away eight 13-gallon bags of her clothing and household items. We both reached out by telephone. I have emailed numerous times. It has now been two weeks, and I am still waiting for a refund OR EVEN A RESPONSE TO MY EMAILS. Caveat emptor--buyer beware.

The teachers are warm and inviting and truly care about their little ones daily needs as well as looking into the future and preparing them for the next step. Curriculum is being updated and teachers are attending trainings and 1 on 1 assistance with their lesson plans. The four season porch is absolutely unique and something I have never seen in a daycare. The children are able to experience all elements without getting muddy and bit by mosquitoes. They're able to watch and listen to the rain coming down as well as enjoying the beauty of the ground getting covered with a blanket of white snow.
