Penzey's is one of few stand alone spice shops around Atlanta. Sure you can go to BFM, DFM and other ethnic grocers and they are all good, but they are not as comprehensive for spices. When I need to restock many or certain seasonings, I find it's easier and faster to go to ALL things SPICES like Penzey's. Although national and online shop to most, Atlanta is lucky to have this brick and mortar. In fact, it's the only store in Georgia. I've been frequenting PS for a decade. ++ Ambiance is small spices and herbs only shop. Pleasant, well lit and for a spice shop, their fragrance is NOT overpowering. ++ Spices, herbs and blended seasonings can be had here. Often, I find harder to find and better quality herbs and spices here. They carry a variety of cinnamons, vanillas, and peppers to choose from. Their ginger is the most fragrant of all I've found around Atlanta and count on them having cardamom, nutmeg, Tellicherries and Singapore seasoning. I have come to Penzey's prior to Thanksgivings for their sage and X-mases for their cocoa. Often, they have promotions for complimentary samples with purchases to discover new flavors like Rogan Josh. The owner apparently is still very hands on and decides on all of the spices being sold. Recently, thyme has been difficult to locate at grocers, but I found it here. + Prices are higher than average. ++ Service is pleasant, prompt by knowledgeable staff. Pro tip: Consider opting OUT of their email specials. The owner insists on bombarding his political views to customers who sign up for their newsletter / specials. I opted out of it and just check their specials before I visit. + Parking is shared in a busy shopping center shared with TJ's and Foxy's. Happy to have Penzey's in Atlanta and their service level is still very good! If you have a home chef, pit-master or a baker, they likely would love a gift-card from Penzey's. read more

Yes, they are pricy but to up my cooking I'll always use them. Their Mural of Flavor, FoxPoint, French Four Spice, & Vanilla Sugar are our favorites !! Mural of Flavor put in everything that needs flavor with less salt. French Four Spice put in a Kale Sausage Soup. Foxpoint OMG that's my kid's favorite !! On eggs, it's the best !! I also mix with butter and put it in mashed potatoes. Vanilla Sugar is AWESOME on popcorn !!! Our FAVORITE! Funny how these snowflakes are mad because owner calling out truths. I Love Penzey's Spices. Received a gift card for my birthday, so instead of ordering online I decided to go to Sandy Springs to the only store in Georgia. The smell of the spices draws you in. Once inside the associates are very friendly and helpful when you are uncertain about different spices. I must say the prices have skyrocketed but so has everything. I had no problem using my gift card plus more. . I even purchased gift cards for my friends who cook. . A true fan of Penzey's. read more

This location is now closed, which I noticed today. Honestly, it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of people. I quit going to the Trader Joe's because of them. Prior to covid, I went to the store, but during covid, I had to order. That's when I discovered what a crackpot the company's owner is and the then employees were NOT any better, when I decided to call and complain. I was nervous, because normally where businesses are concerned, I am live and let live. But the fact that Bill Penzey basically tells people who don't agree with his politics to leave was too much. So, I called. The employee who answered asked me in a very sarcastic tone, if I was going to cry. I wasn't, but then and there, I shipped all unused spices back and asked for a refund, which they provided for the eligible ones. Their motto about loving is hypocritical you know what, and the employees at that time are no different than the owner. I purchase from The Spice House, founded by his parents and then owned by his sister and brother-in-law, who've since sold the business. read more

Try one spice and you'll be back. I stopped in one day randomly and got a few small size spices and they gave me a free large jar of their curry powder. Wow! I usually like to mix my own spices but my gosh all their spices were gold! The curry powder was phenomenal!!!! I have been back multiple times! I have to say, ground fenugreek is so hard to find, normally. The paprikas are so flavorful and aromatic. I grabbed a few more blends to try that I would not know how to mix myself. Also the people are wonderful! They are so kind and friendly. Spend the extra buck on good spices. Worth it!!! Also they have a lot of organizations they support and are peace based. This particular Penzey's Spices outlet is in Sandy Springs, Georgia, which is a suburb of Atlanta. Georgia. It is located in a shopping plaza, so parking is not an issue. The staff is extremely friendly and professional and Penzey's Spices often have some great sales. I am a huge fan of this company and I am very impressed by some of their spices. Some favorites are their granulated garlic, their Now Curry, their peppercorns, their Chicago steak seasoning, many of their dried herbs (parsley, basil, oregano, Mexican oregano, etc.), and just so much more. The store is very soothing to walk through and you can find so many cool.and intriguing spices. I was introduced to both epazote and their berbere seasoning and have been regularly using both spices. Cooking is an act of love and passion and these spices make my dishes come out better. I am very impressed with both this brand and this location. I'm writing this in part because of the 1 star ratings from conservatives in retribution to VP Harris visiting a Penzeys store. I boycott a few places based on their conservative politics...the Jesus chicken place, Hobby Lobby, local burger place so I get the sentiment but what I don't understand is trying to hurt those businesses by posting bad reviews. Just don't patronize them if you don't care for their political views. To lie in a review and suggest that the product they sell is not good is just over the top mean and hateful. The my way or the highway is unAmerican. The real shame is that y'all have hardened your hearts and let someone's words determine your bad behavior. I walk past this location often when picking up my contact lenses. Decided to give it a go as I am prepping for Thanksgiving and want to impress this year. I spent $36 on spices at the Sandy Springs location that once I opened the containers, could immediately tell they were STALE. I specifically came here to buy a higher quality level of ingredients. When Whole Foods, the Dekalb Farmers Market, Publix, and Trader Joe's don't have the spice you need, enter Penzeys*. Penzeys is kind of like a Sephora for cooking enthusiasts as there are tons of offerings and samples/spices to sniff. Don't inhale too deeply though! But the staff is used to sneezing. They are a Wisconsin-based chain that does a lot of mail-order business. This is their only location in the state of Georgia as it turns out. I was actually going to the adjacent Trader Joe's but spotted Penzeys and made a quick detour inside. The selection is remarkable. I was actually able to locate what I wanted soon enough. It came in a few sizes too; I got the smallest/cheapest one since I only needed a little. The guy ringing up my purchase seemed cool. This place is amazing. Fantastic customer service. I'm learning to thrive on dietary restrictions and my group recommended ordering safe spices from Penzey's. I held off on visiting website. Well I finally visited their site and FB page and I was pleasantly surprised to find they have an Atlanta location. Yippee for me. Had a mother daughter afternoon outing and stopped in. We were like kids in a candy store. I think we smelled every spice and seasoning blend they had. The employees were so helpful and when I explained why I had come in, the young man quickly went to the desk to pull a list of low FODMAP safe seasoning blends. SO EXCITING!!! Well, I ended up buying safe seasoning blends for me, stuff I can't have for Mom, and Madagascar vanilla for my cousin's awesome vanilla bean cheesecake. I'm definitely going back. read more

While I typically don't let the views of company leadership taint the views of the products or services of the company, this company cannot separate business from politics. I signed up for their e-mail list years ago as there were good recipes, coupons, etc related to the products offered. Over the past 6 months, their e-mail list has served as a way to push their political agenda with very little about their products. One would think that after the election was over this might end, but no, they decided to send out an e-mail victory lap along with a list of states and leaders they support and whom they believe are doing a good job and a list of states that could use some help. As a company, while their products are good, they can easily be substituted from another company that sticks to their own business in their communication. read more

Besides that, the cashier Ebony helped me out SO much. She was kind in greeting me and helped me find what I needed. Very nice store and friendly staff. Fills a spice void in the Sandy Springs/Dunwoody burbs. The downfall...price and quantity. Penzi's might be an exotic and refreshing retreat for those who do not venture out much or cook with a lot of spice. If you cook Indian or Middle eastern food, then you will lose one bottle of the overpriced $6 red chili powder in about two dishes. If you sprinkle spice onto your dishes only or use Turmeric only once in your life, then this is your place. I am not trying to throw Penzi's under the bus as they have a cool concept and cater to those who wouldn't dare step inside an international farmer's market. If you don't want to get raped, then buy your spices at the Dekalb Farmer's market or Patel Brothers. You can find any spice and buy tubs of spices (freshly ground at the Dekalb Farmer's market) typically for a couple dollars. Penzi's is literally 3-5 times more expensive on their spices than the Dekalb Farmer's Market and you also get a lot more for your money at Dekalb. My boyfriend and I were shocked by Penzi's prices but we also realized that the fellow patrons in the shop seemed to be the 50-something Sandy Springs suburban elite types and they would probably never step into the chaotic frenzy of the Dekalb Farmer's Market, so they can at least add some spice to their dishes. read more

Walking in Penzy's was a bit of an "Oh Shitzzz" moment, this is a cooks dream so many spices and all within arms reach Penzy's is open, spacious and organized. Spices are for sale starting at a half ounce in glass jars or resealable bags . All of the spices are set out for you to purchase and the bonus here is that they have a container of every Item set out for you to sample or even take a whiff of if you like. (Tissues are on the counter.) Turkish Bay leaves, Smoked Paprika, Italian Dressing mix, what kind of Curry, dried Jalapenos, Rosemary, Peppercorns and even B.B.Q. rubs are only steps away. For those of you who drink coffee - Vanilla sugar, Cinnamon sugar and even jars of Cocoa are available to add flavor to your morning brew. Do yourself a favor lock your bag (or wallet) in the trunk and take cash only with you that way when the" Gimmes" start getting the better of you and they will, you only have the green that's your pocket to spend. read more

It is way past time I write a review for this place...in fact I'm surprised I haven't already! For any home cook, Penzey's is THE place you need to get acquainted with. My husband and I might have a sight addiction to this place considering we have an entire cabinet full of their goodies! It's almost hard not to when they are almost always having some promotion that gets your free spices to try. The staff is always super friendly and I love talking to staff and other customers about different spices and how people are using them. It's a great way to get ideas if you lack some of that kitchen creativity. My favorite by far is the Sunny Paris. We use it a lot with mixed veggies and it is outstanding mixed in to scrambled eggs! Now that fall is here, make sure to pick up some of their hot cocoa and mulling spices for some amazing hot cider! (Pro tip, spend a little extra picking up some cider from a local orchard if you can. My parents brought some down from VA and I think that made it that much better) We've also been using the peppercorn seasoning a lot to make our own dips for veggies. Just mix it with a little mayo and sour cream and viola! I could go on, but you get the point! read more

I've heard of Penzey's spices before. I have friends who RAVE about them. So when I was given the chance to visit the store in Atlanta, I jumped at it. Walking into the store, I breathed in the comforting scent of a myriad of spices, of that musky, musty odor that is both pleasant and pungent and makes me smile. My friend was with me, she told me that when you get their catalogue in the mail, you usually get a free spice with it. She'd moved so she'd not gotten her most recent one and as such, missed out on her free spice. She told this to store rep and the store rep asked when she moved. When the date was given, it turned out that she'd missed 2 free spices and that was IMMEDIATELY rectified. Yes, my friend was given 2 free spices on the spot! That's customer service! I had fun wandering around the store, looking at what they had, sniffing the different spices, and taking the sample recipes. The prices were reasonable too. Though I have to admit that We have a spice store that I feel is comparable and does blends that I simply can't live without. I came here with a friend of mine and she opened my eyes to this beautiful spice world. Seriously, Penzey's has any spice you could ever dream of. Each spice I smelled was fresh and I could tell would have been delightful on anything. It is common to get a little sneezy while smelling these delicious spices however there is a container of dried spearmint by the cashier to smell and cleanse your nasal passage. Now that's what I call customer service! My favorite section by far is the cinnamon and cocoa section. I LOVE cocoa and cinnamon and this section is the most adorable section of the store. I ended up buying a bag of Dutch Processed Cocoa powder. The bag had preparation instructions on it so it was easy and impossible to mess up. Also when I purchased my cocoa I received a free spice! Much better than that OTHER place with the wall o' spice. Every specialty spice you've ever needed, and those you didn't (they make their own blends; many are salt-free). Fenugreek? ground or seed? Paprika? Hungarian or not? Smoked or not? Spicy or not? Vanilla? Beans or pure extract? and from which continent? Seriously. If you cook at all, and use anything but S & P, this is where you have to go. Just stand in the middle of the room and inhale. Even if you don't buy anything.
