Last day for gift card promotion!!

First time shopping at Penzey's Spices. Easily located across from Woodman's, near the Starbucks and near I94. The entry is very welcoming and staff provided good details about their products, including empty jar offering that includes stickers to label the jars. Positive messaging throughout the store provided a nice vibe for shopping. It did not disappoint! Thank you!

A truly lovely thing just happened to me! I received the gift of a "hug" from my favorite purveyor of herbs & spices: Penzey's! Enclosed in this gift was a bright & happy plush lap throw, a packet of their Mural of Flavor deliciousness, and a sweet note of caring encouragement! How thoughtful and wonderful is this?!? Completely unexpected, I am touched, and feel hugged! ~SHE PS: I'm a longtime customer for life, and tell everyone about the wonderful Penzey's Spices! Absolutely everyone!

Oh my goodness all the spices and herbs. I was warmly welcomed and greeted when I walked in. I took my time and browsed the aisles. So much to choose

Huge space with their warehouse adjacent in a very large parking lot near a huge Target store in Wauwatosa about 15 minutes from Milwaukee. Multiple smells as there are a jillion different seasonings to choose from!!! You grab a basket upon entering the store & I was quickly greeted by a friendly sales clerk. Asked her a few questions while there & she was extremely helpful in explaining different options.... Bought a few bottles as gifts Wide variety of curries, chile powders, taco seasonings, cinnamons & the list goes on & on. These aren't inexpensive seasonings but tasty & they make nice gifts as they have gift boxes there.

This was unexpected and the anti-conservative hate speech on the back of the packet is highly upsetting/offensive. Asked customer service if I could return for a full refund and was told "the socio-political messaging on certain products and our website is a core part of our business" and that I had to eat the return shipping cost. Highly disappointed that Penzey's refused to do the right thing in this situation, and would rather lose a long time fan of your spices over the owner's personal socio-political beliefs - which have no place in a business model. As a customer I do not force my beliefs on you as a business owner, and I expect the same in return.

The assortment of spices is amazing & the folks that work there all seem to be cooks, which I love because if you open the door a crack you can pull some great information from them! The store is always spotless, well attended and shelves full. I also love the kids artwork that is displayed at different times! The only thing I wish is BP would keep his political views to himself. My parents taught me to never talk politics or religion to anyone unless they were close friends and we agreed. I am 80 yrs. young & my best friend loves Penseys spices but I can guarentee she would never buy a spice from Penseys again if she knew his political views. That would make me sad!

I also don't know a time when I've not had a staff person ask if I need anything. They have a great selection of spices and seasonings, including many of their blends. It can be pricier but the quality is worth it and you can usually save with their promotions.

The person working on this particular Saturday afternoon (April 4th 2026) was so helpful as they made helpful recommendations while sharing about their faves. No pressure, just like shopping with a fun friend! I love that the store has tester samples that enable shoppers to get a vibe for the mixtures of seasonings via a sniff. I loved that they had some sale items ($1/small jar) because it enables one to test it out and maybe head back to get a larger size if they wanted to make the spice a kitchen staple. Even when not on sale for $1, the small sizes available are perfect for testing it out in the kitchen. The layout of the store is neat, with everything well-organized. Downtown Milwaukee street parking is such a crapshoot on any day.

The…read moremoment you walk in, you're greeted by the smell of spices, and it's hard not to spend a little extra time browsing. They have such a great selection that it almost feels like a candy store for anyone who loves to cook. The two ladies working were incredibly helpful and took the time to explain the differences between the two saffron varieties they carried. They had a Spanish saffron and a newer Afghan saffron that the owner had recently brought into the store. They described the Spanish saffron as having a sweeter, more floral flavor with a lighter aroma, while the Afghan saffron was bolder, earthier, and much more aromatic. I was specifically looking for saffron to make tea as part of my overall wellness routine, and after talking through what I was hoping for, we decided the Afghan saffron was the better fit. I've been really enjoying it. You only need about four to seven strands steeped in hot water, and it slowly turns the tea into a beautiful golden yellow color. The flavor is subtle and smooth without being overwhelming, making it a relaxing drink to sip in the evening. What stood out most wasn't just the quality of the products, but the customer service. They genuinely took the time to answer my questions, share their own opinions, and help me choose what fit my needs instead of simply pointing to me toward a shelf. I'll definitely be back to explore more of their spices. If you've never been to Penzeys before, it's absolutely worth stopping in. Even if you only need one ingredient, you'll probably leave with a few new ideas and a little more knowledge than when you walked in.

I sometimes buy their gift boxes for family because I want them to love Penzys spices too! Prices are reasonable and the quality is impeccable. The potency lasts much longer than any store brand or the famous red-capped spice company. Additionally, Penzys has many whole spices which last even longer as I can grind up only what I need. They also sell jars for storing spices, cookbooks, etc. I've been to other locations, but the 74th St location is my closest shop. I can't even remember when they moved in but it's always been well maintained and well stocked. Herbs and spices up front, baking goodies in the back. I love the little kitchen nook that baking items are displayed on, reminds me of my grandmas kitchen. They are staffed by friendly and helpful employees who love cooking and baking as much as everyone else. Don't hesitate to ask questions or for suggestions. Penzys also has sales a couple of times per year. Sometimes it's free items with a specific purchase amount, sometimes a discount.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to stop into The Spice House today! When I came in there was an employee standing right near the front who asked if I needed anything, and though they didn't have the item I asked about (a brine bag--Thanksgiving is fewer than three weeks away!), I wandered around a bit anyway. I picked up some vanilla bean paste (I use this in place of vanilla extract), cinnamon maple sugar, some broth concentrate, and a bag of crystalized ginger. That brought me above their threshold for getting a free flat-pack item so I chose some Back of the Yards spice, which is part of their Heritage Collection. The woman who checked me out said that it tastes good as a rub but it's also great in potatoes and stuff. I'm looking forward to tasting it because it sounds delicious... I just wish they had a Ravenswood or Lincoln Square one too! The Heritage Collection is a line of spices created to be reminiscent of various neighborhoods--Pullman, Back of the Yards, Central Ave., etc. Cool idea to celebrate the city and its environs! Staff were really friendly. They also appear to have a tasting bar; I didn't really understand what it was until I was about to leave and saw some folks being offered tasted of stuff. I don't know if I would have wanted to taste what they had out there (though the Greektown spice did sound interesting!) but next time I stop in I'd love to have the chance to do so because it definitely can be intimidating to buy spices you haven't used before, or those for which you have no frame of reference (like the Heritage Collection ones that are made particularly for this store). If I made one suggestion, it would be to have a few recipes here or there. for some of the spices, especially some of those that might not be part of the standard spice cupboard/might be a bit more intimidating than others. They do have suggestions on some of them but I wouldn't mind adding to my recipe collection!
