Yes the clientele is slightly on the rougher side, but really what do you expect in Merthyr Tydfil. But now, let me tell you a few things about the Wyndham that may come of surprise; the bar stock pretty much everything and anything, prices are god damn reasonable, the music is good and the place is generally very clean. So clean, customers even take their dogs there. Rough, scary looking beasts that once patted are as cute natured as a new born pup. The pub itself is big and airy and in general, a nice place to be. OK, the customers usually have no teeth and are completely plastered before the shops open but let me tell you now, what a bloody educating place the Wyndham is. Be warned, everyone will turn and look as you make your grand entrance, but once again, welcome to Wales! If your lucky enough to not get stared at and actually get involved with the conversation, i can guarantee, hands down, you'll have one of the best little afternoons of your life!

Fair play, the place is very nice and airy not like some of the other pubs that clutter up Merthyr High Street. (naming no names, cough; the Vulcan?!) It used to be super pricey but since the recession, sensibly the place has knocked its prices down, ensuring the place is usually quite full. Customers tend to be the older type, so its good for couples or groups that just want a chat and a drink. Background music is played and the place generally has a nice atmosphere. I'm told the food is good and i know its reasonable because in my drunken stupor i told the bloke behind the bar that the menu looked good! But, as i've mentioned in earlier reviews; i'm a drinker, not a .... you know the score by now. I was there the other day and a man actually said the See you next Tuesday word pretty loud, and it was only twelve in the afternoon! The food always looks like its been thrown on your plate and i've had to take it back more than once. OK, so its a spoons and drinks are reasonable, food is reasonable but surely that doesn't mean they have to be crap. I'm not overly fussed on the staff in this place, having worked in another Wetherspoons, i'm sure i must have attended a completely different training session to these guys. All look like they have the weight of the world on their shoulders and all seem to rather be on their mobile phones other than in work. Cant blame them really they work long hours, for crap pay... i should know! Anyway if it's cheap nosh your after head over to Rhyd-y-car to the Dragonfly and if your after a cheap drink, although its out the way go to the Bali Glas! The place was filled to the brim with absolutely, stark mad, crazy people. And they were everywhere, on the tables, on the bar and literally hanging off the light fittings swigging from cheap cans of whatever was on sale. Me and my friend honestly held hands to go to the toilet, where I was introduced to a girl called Stacey who had fake eyelashes and a weak stomach. I had never ever felt so out of my depth. Seeing bar staff doing shots with every customer was something that was brand spanking new to me but strangely the whole place had like a holiday/party atmosphere and after finding a little cwtch to hang about in with our cans of cider and trembling knees we soon got into the swing of it and amazingly I started to have fun! If you're on a night out in Merthyr I'm told the Vulcan is compulsory before heading to the other wonders of pubs and clubs the borough have to offer. Quite compact, it; 'don't half get hot in ere' One boy told me whilst mopping his wet brow, with his damp sleeve. And he was right; there were bodies everywhere, all a little moist too. Eeeerrrgggghhhhh. Prices are good, almost too good to be true and although in my snobbery ways I was too frightened to sample an actual pint, I drank the cans and bottles that did the trick very nicely thank you. Luckily no one stays long in the Vulcan, everyone seems to just move on so I'd recommend you go to the toilet before you go in and then use the toilets at the next establishment. To say they're not the best is the fairest description I can give. Well worth a wander in thought, just to get the t-shirt!!

This pub/resturant has had a few owners in the past, but this owner is one of the best, they have taken the pub away and just expanded the resturaunt and decorated tastefully, they offer good quality food at decent prices, great atmospehere, but the only downside is that you do feel at tad rushed because they are so busy and need the tables. The staff are great though and will do anything for you.
