Hobos replaced my favourite poker venue. It was a dingy little pool hall which was frequented by the shadiest characters. Those of which I would sit down with every week and try to take some money from on the poker table! Looking back on it now, I should have been happy that I still had use of both legs but I was actually still reeling when Hobos opened its doors.
Imagine my surprise when I walked in and saw that leather sofas, plush decoration and a fully stocked bar had replaced boarded up windows, exposed brick walls and a small fridge with some cans of Carling in it. I was quite impressed as they really did put a lot of work into creating one of the nicer looking bars in Bridgend.
It's a rock/metal club mainly with a large stage and gig area behind the main bar. They've got gigs here every week too and it's taken its place as one of, if not the premier venue in town for live music. Don't expect any Tracy Chapman covers though as it's mainly metal and punk bands who play here.
The bar is well stocked and low priced and is really the only place in Bridgend I don't mind being! Other people agree it would seem as it gets absolutely heaving here on the weekend. If you can get past the crowds indoors and you like old and new rock music, then Hobos is really the only place in Bridgend to really kick back and enjoy yourself. read more
