The mixing was top notch, the recording and…read moremic-pairing/engineer spent time swapping out mics to get the perfect sound for our instrumentation, and the environment was overtly gorgeous, with crystals mounted on the banister adjacent to all the famous records on the wall that were cut at this studio. It was a blessing to share the same monitoring room couch as other greats like Michael Harris of Idiot Pilot. But all of this would only be three stars in my book. The finished product arrived at the end of the day and sounded far superior than I expected it would. The bass was lush and present, the percussion punchy yet gentle and textured, and the instrumentation had such a great stereo image. This was the fourth star. I'm giving them the coveted fifth star purely based on how much love the engineers put into their job and how much they cared for me as a client. I had the utmost faith in them throughout the day as they guided me through the motions and I felt like family at the end of the session. I will be taking the trip 2 hours north to Bellingham for all my recording needs going forward. Go Bayside!

From these lessons, I went on to study music at Douglas College, before transferring to UBC studying with Michael Strutt. The current teaching group is just as strong. One of the current teachers at SMC, Phil Korytko, I have had the honour of playing guitar with from time to time. I can easily state he one of the best guitarists I have ever met. From beginners to advanced students, this group is worth checking out.

Almost every week we rehearsed here, and almost every week the owner would berate us for reasons beyond understanding. Not kidding around here, it's genuinely bizarre. We continued to play here through Covid and support the owner, Sean, yet even then we would leave most nights feeling bad because we weren't allowed to go without being "put in our place". It feels awful writing this review because of the amount of time I have spent here, having fun with friends. You can be as respectful as possible to his business and him, and still feel like you are a nuisance. Today, I was called an "asshat" by Sean because we expressed concern about getting to the studio in the snow, as we all drive from various locations. He told us if we didn't show up we would be charged (even after 5 years of loyal business), then after we figured out a new way to get there he insulted me and blocked me for saying we would be making it work. I wish there was two sides to this story, but there unfortunately isn't. Although the rates here are good, IT IS NOT WORTH DEALING WITH SEAN. You get to a point where the value does not outweigh the abuse. We had asked ourselves for sometime why we put up with it, on a weekly basis, and today we finally have made our mind up why this business needs to be avoided.

Felix has a keen ability to draw out incredible performances and create magic in the studio. Studio manager Max Sample is incredibly talented and the studio offers repair services as well.
