I needed a large truck to accommodate items I was taking to sell at the Vintage Fair. I couldn't…read morefind any that would allow me to keep it 24hrs at the local UHauls, so I contacted Penske and the only location I could get was in San Pablo. I booked online and got a confirmation number. I checked in the next morning with my confirmation number and it said no longer avail. So I called and was connected to the main office who said to they tried to call to tell me there were no more trucks avail at that location. I had a couple of unrecognizable missed calls on my phone log but no voicemails from them. She gave me the number of the main office in San Leandro and says they could check where the closest location had avail trucks. I was able to book a larger truck and pick up in Richmond. I was told that location closes at 3 pm. I planned on arriving 30 min early, but there was tons of traffic. So I called to make sure they knew I was coming and may not arrive by the time I specified. The phone numbers listed for the various locations route back to m the main office service people and they contact the pick up site. I arrived before closing but later than my designated time. The location appeared to be a storage facility and did not say anything about truck rentals. The door was locked and the sign on the door said will return at 9:30am. I was stressed out thinking I missed them. I immediately called and was once again connected to a Penske rep at the main office. While she looked up my reservation, a woman came out from the side of the building and asked if I needed help. I was so relieved and explained about traffic. Her name was Shelia and she was extremely helpful. She had my truck waiting and she was extremely patient walking me through the paperwork. I had to contact AAA to confirm my account was still active to get the discount. I also had to contact my auto insurance company to determine if my policy covered truck rentals as Shelia said most do not. She was correct, mine only covered rental cars. She explained the plans they had available and added on the appropriate insurance. I was concerned about leaving my car there overnight and she guided me into the parking area to n a spot where the cameras would capture any activity. So although they definitely are not inexpensive vehicles, they are reliable and Ms Shelia is a gem. Thanks much

I originally requested a cargo van and hand truck on-line and all was well until I received a call…read morethe day prior to pick up stating that they had no hand trucks for two more weeks and that the cargo van was unavailable & that I would be getting a truck. After speaking to the guy on the phone, I understood that the website and local offices are not necessarily coordinated and up to date with inventory, no problem, I understand how this can happen. I received calls from Penske representative on Saturday requesting my arrival - it seems their hours of 9-Noon are only a possibility, and are more accurately based on "reservation time"; so be timely and drop ins may find the office closed. The truck inspection was as expected but for the "low air left front tire" warning. It was low, but not flat. I suggested I put air in as the office did not have a compressor and was told, "No, it will be ok for a day, we will do it when you return the truck." Ummmm, ok. So I took the truck and spent the day loading. The next morning, 7:30am, as I was preparing to depart - the left front tire is now technically flat! I called the Penske Roadside service and the wait time is 58min. I was offered the "call back" option and opted (of course) for that - who doesn't want to avoid that annoying music? I received the call back & was once again placed on hold then it HUNG UP!!! I almost wept. It is now 10am and I've called back as somehow the person who was supposed to pick up the phone (not hang up) was able to leave me a message as I was on hold (wtf?) I immediately called back the number she gave and the wait time is now 75min (I want to weep again) AND there is no option to call back. I'm certain I'm in the 7th gate of hell. My day is going to be occupied by getting this damn tire fixed as I will necessarily have to wait for the Penske repair person to arrive. The upside is I am getting a discount and will not be charged if truck is returned late, but, honestly, my time is more valuable that that and it will not be worth it. Never again.
