I didn't have many options for dinner and had my hopes for some southern cooking at Garden Patch. Unfortunately Maria from Holiday Inn Express informed me that they were only open for lunch but mentioned a couple of other spots to try. When she told me this place gives discounts to Uncle Ray employees I said sure why not. Their menu stated that their staple was the fried catfish, so I ordered a combination of fried catfish, fried shrimp, and french fries. The combo also included hush puppies and coleslaw. The fried catfish and shrimp were pretty good; they were crispy and very lightly seasoned. The hush puppies were my favorite, perfectly fried on the outside yet moist on the inside with a slight flavoring of crab. I actually saw little pieces of the crab in the inside. The coleslaw on the other hand was horrible. Think of Kentucky Fried Chicken coleslaw but 10 times worse. For a $10 meal with a huge cup of sweet tea, the price and quality of the food were reasonable, but I guess that included my extra special Uncle Ray discount. It took awhile for the waitress to take my order but my food came out pretty quick and piping hot. If I ever have to come back to Forest for work, I wouldn't mind coming here again. But hopefully I'll be staying in Jackson where there's more choices to eat at.

Excellent home cooked food in a friendly atmosphere. Buffet style or menu is also available. Very friendly staff. I would definitely return!

Dined here recently during a stay in Forest and really enjoyed it. While it doesn't look like much on the outside the staff was friendly and accommodating and the food was really good. Try the lunch buffet, especially the fried catfish.

Butter after 30 minutes sitting on the rice.

This Forest location reminds me of the original. This food was cooked to order and great tasting Mississippi fish. Great service.

The staff was super friendly but the place is a mess. Sorry to see. Probably was good back in the day.

We went on a Sunday after church. The buffet had little on it and the entire restaurant seemed dirty and unkept. We wont go back.

This one of the best seafood restaurants I've been in in a long time. Catfish and shrimp and coleslaw are awesome. Will go again

Overall 4 Stars If…read moreyou want a decent Po-Boy in Meridian, make a pit stop at Seafood Express. Get your gas and chips but you GOTTA' get their sandwiches! Ambiance - A locally owned gas store / deli, you can order a variety of FRIED food, both Surf or Turf, plates, family style or a la cart. The only fresh seafood they might have is Crawfish, when in seasoned. There are three or four small tables to seat and eat. I recommend as order as takeout. Service - the staff were fast and friendly. With a steady supply of locals coming through, they ready to take your order. The deli section is stocked with a lot of fried items so you can get your food quicker. However, I would recommend to get one of their PoBoy sandwiches. You won't go wrong. You may have to wait 5-10 minutes but it worth it. Food - 4 Stars Shrimp PoBoy combo w fries and drink. $13.99 I would have given it 5 stars but the fries were overcooked and too crunchy. The quality of the potato of the fries could be better too. The bread was fluffy and toasty just as it should be for a PoBoy! The amount of shrimp was overwhelming. See pictures. The sandwhich came w lettuce, onions, pickles and tomatoes. No mayo. I ordered the 8" combo meal but they have a 6" size, if you counting your calories because your cholesterol will still be high with the amount of fried food! Oh, I forgot, they have shrimp fried rice too. So get a side order! I forgot to order mine. Bummer. Enjoy

The ambiance was great. We even had front row views to a Christmas parade!…read more The food was tasty, though not the 'traditional' New Orleans seafood dishes I was expecting. The service was okay. Our waiter was nice, but didn't seem to know the menu or remember what we ordered.

My parents and I stumbled across this place on our way home, and what a find it was. From the…read moremoment we stepped inside, we knew we were somewhere special. The exposed brick and thoughtful décor struck the perfect balance--classic and nostalgic with just the right touch of modern style. We were immediately welcomed by the sweetest hostess (I hate that I can't remember her name--she had glasses, a beautiful smile, and the cutest dress). She greeted us with genuine warmth and hospitality that's hard to come by these days. She led us into the main dining room and seated us at a charming table dressed in crisp white linens. The space featured more exposed brick, tasteful artwork, and just the right amount of décor. The temperature was perfect, and the tables were spaced far enough apart to create an intimate, relaxed atmosphere. Our waiter arrived promptly and was both friendly and knowledgeable. He clearly knew his craft and took the time to walk us through the specials, making sure we felt confident and excited about our choices. We ordered sweet tea, which was perfectly brewed--not overly sweet, just right. The complimentary peanut butter and crackers were something new to us, but after reading about the history behind it, we appreciated the thoughtful touch even more. Our food arrived quickly, and everything was fresh and cooked to order. We tried the spicy chicken sandwich, the cheeseburger, and a special featuring a panini with a cup of gumbo. Each entrée came with perfectly cooked homemade chips. Every bite was spot-on--truly a 10 out of 10. Even though we were full, we couldn't resist ordering dessert--when in Rome, right? We chose the peanut butter pie and the famous Black Bottom pie. After one bite of those generously sized slices, we all paused and just looked at each other. I don't exaggerate when I say we unanimously agreed they were the best pies we've ever had. What started as a plan to sample a few bites and take the rest to go ended with two completely empty plates. We consider ourselves food lovers, and I genuinely couldn't find a single flaw in the entire experience. We live nearly three hours away and are already planning a trip back. If you've made it this far in my amateur review, thank you--and I truly hope you get the chance to experience this wonderful, history-filled gem for yourself.
