The crew of Automotive Intelligence worked miracles and kept ya girl's budget in mind! Kate at the front desk orchestrates everything to a T, because sometimes maintenance can be scheduled and sometimes $#! happens! 99% of the time they've been able to squeeze me in with no notice and get me back on the road same day. What's even better is they don't pull any punches- they fix what needs done, tell you what to keep an eye out for next, and keep the cost real. And if they don't have time to do the job- they tell you (!) rather than keeping your vehicle hostage. The crew is knowledgeable- but when a job calls for it, the owner isn't afraid to get his hands dirty and show the shop why he's the boss and how they can get there too. I'm pretty sure they never gave it to me as I don't know why I would keep this receipt but not the warranty. In the last three weeks, this shop has completely washed their hands of helping me even though the federal guidelines say the warranty is good for 8 years. They can't even tell me who they bought the part from so I can call myself, that's how disorganized they are. This shop is likely fine for minor repairs, but please do not go here for major issues like me. They do not stand behind their products or work.

I was directed to them when I moved here in 2009 by a repairman at another shop who was apologetic for a high quote on a repair necessary for my car to pass inspection after I made him aware I couldn't afford it on my budget. That other repairman evaluated the car but it was his management who determined the quote - discreetly, he recommended me Tommy with M&M as very reasonably priced and honest. It was a godsend, I was able to afford the repair and passed inspection. Cypress Street that M&M is on takes an upward slope next to the shop so its somewhat hidden when driving by if your not looking for it and never seen them advertise yet they always have business which I assume is because word of mouth and suspect that customers like myself are loyal to them for their refreshingly straight-forward, honest and reliable repairs. Ive a 91 Toyota that Ive not been the best at taking care of and it probably have died already were it not for Tommy / M&M. This was my first time using Phillips, my company brings some of their vehicles over to them for…read moreinspection and thought I would give them a try. I brought my car here on Monday (8/1) due to a noise that it was making on the left drivers side. Drop off was a bit confusing as the front door was open but there wasn't anyone at the desk and I waited for about 5 minutes or so and had to walk around to find someone. A gentleman came from the shop area to help. He was pleasant and took my information and promised to give me a call with the diagnoses. I had informed him that it was my only vehicle and that I would need it back ASAP to be able to get home, he assured me that I would hear from someone that morning. I heard back from them at 11:57AM and they let me know that the strut mount and ball joint on the left side were broken and needed to be replaced. She quoted me a price of $350.00 for each and told me that it wouldn't be any higher than $700.00. They didn't have the strut mount in stock for my car and they would have to order it and it would arrive the following morning. I agreed to these repairs and we both hung up. Tuesday morning came and about 11AM I called over to see if the part arrived and to discuss how we were going to handle the payment. The owner indicated that yes the parts arrived and that they would be working on my car that afternoon and it should be completed. I said okay and thought everything was fine. By 4PM I had started to call them to find out the status of my car as I was getting ready to leave work to come over and wanted to be sure that it was completed. After about 1/2 hour I got a call back and was told that it was done and they "just had to get the paperwork completed". I said okay not a problem and asked what the total was and was told "once the paperwork together we can let you know when you arrive". I made my way over to them about 10 minutes later. Once I arrived a gentleman asked me to have a seat they were just finalizing the paperwork. After another 10 minutes a female walked in and we said hello and I continued to wait. After another 10 minutes the female asked me to come up to the desk she was ready for me (at this point I realized it was the owner), I came up to the desk at which time she handed me a bill for $1,041.53 which was significantly more than the approx. $700.00 which she quoted me. She then proceeded to tell me it was because they replaced the right side strut mount as well due to it being a "safety issue" and would not pass inspection. While I understood the safety issue and it not passing inspection that was NOT what my car was there for. It was there for the noise on the left hand side of my car. When I asked why repairs were done that I had NOT authorized I was told that the mechanic felt since it was a "safety" issue and the owner wasn't around to call me that he would just replace them. When I pointed out that this was unacceptable the owner proceeded to tell me that it wouldn't pass inspection (yes my inspection was due) and that it was a safety issue. While I told her I understood all that my issue was WHY DIDN'T ANYONE CALL ME TO GET AUTHORIZATION. More than likely I would have approved it, however, NO ONE called me. It wasn't like they gave me a discount on the price either. It was the same amount to replace the left side (including labor) as it was the right side. I was then "forced" into an agreement to pay the difference by the end of the month, however, I didn't agree with this, however, they were holding my keys hostage and I had no way to get home and felt I had no choice. I understand mistakes happen, but I didn't authorize this work and I can't verify if in fact the mount was bad as they didn't show me the part etc. There was no issue with the right side when I brought it in and believe that I was taken complete advantage of.
