That awkwardly being included and all, during girl's visit day that weekend, we chose to get lunch at the nearest sushi joint to where we were hanging out and found Tokyo Sushi Bar & Steak House! We chose a time and place early enough in the day where it was just us! We were comfortable with the restaurant all to ourselves! hehe We tried so many rolls that day, and I couldn't resist trying their seaweed salad & fish eggs! As we entered the entryway, we were WARMLY welcomed with a hearty "HI!!" We chose the Hibachi side of the dining room. Promptly seated and serving plate, silver and napkins in place. Thanks to experienced Alex - the chef's assistant. Alex was super personable, friendly and FUNNY! We enjoyed him immensely. Our chef - O.G. - arrived with his side cart loaded with sauces, a huge tray of beautifully prepared veggies, generous portions of rice and smallish proteins which were over priced. My five small scallops were cooked to perfection. Exceedingly tender with the proper bit of char. Delicious! But I sure could have enjoyed a couple more of those morsels. We were a party of four. Two opted for strictly chicken and the last of our group did a chix/shrimp combo. The chicken, sadly, was overcooked. O.G. was entertaining and an interesting conversationalist.

The salad has a ginger dressing which I appreciate, but my daughter didn't. Again, it's a her issue. The salad components were fresh. The sushi flavors were pretty good. So the fish is not as fresh as it would be in a coastal state or on an island. Hey man, this is the midwest! That being said, this is NOT grocery store sushi though, it is much better and much tastier than that. The flavors of the sauces are mild to allow the natural flavors of the ingredients to shine through, something that many places err in. Typical rolls have such overpowering sauces that the actual ingredients are unidentifiable. This place does not make that mistake. The spicy tuna roll is probably the best tasting spicy tuna roll that I have had in a very long time. Most places use sriracha as the main pepper ingredient, despite it not being of Japan origins. This spicy tuna roll has more of a togarashii based pepper base. As a result it has more of an authentic Japanese flavor. Yum! The staff are very nice, greeting you with a smile. They even ask if you would like a plate cleared away before taking the dish away...my husband has had instances where he wasn't quite done and the servers whisked the dish away neglecting to ask. They checked on us frequently as well. I also am pleasantly surprised that their last call for dine in is 15 minutes before they close. My daughter wasn't available to go out for dinner until 8:45 pm. This is 20 minutes away, so it was still open when we arrived and we didn't feel rushed to place our order.

The place is open and airy and the tables are spaced well so that one is dining in a communal place but can still carry on a conversation in some privacy. Shelly and Lin-Lin were our servers, and they were AMAZING! Shelly greeted us and was a most hospitable hostess; when we asked for a table nearer the windows, she was happy to oblige. Both Shelly and Lin-Lin guided us through the menu, answering our questions and giving us thoughtful recommendations for food and drink choices. Our meals were EXQUISITE! My friend had the Chrisnana roll and I had the lunch special of two rolls with onion soup. Both were plated beautifully; we took photos because they were utterly charming! The Chrisnana roll was delicious; the banana was surprising but melded with the savory sushi flavors.
