I drove 30+ minutes late at night to pick up things for a special breakfast. Website said store was open till midnight each day. Arrived 11:02pm. Store was closed. Sign on door says store is open 7-11 each day, different from website. Called store (confirmed it was right one) to find out what was going on and which was right, or if store was open but I just failed to get in for some reason. Asked automated system for hours. It said 7-10 each day. So now we have three different sets of hours. While doing this, two other cars, unrelated to each other, pulled up and people tried and failed to enter the store. You web site and phone system both have different store hours listed than the ones listed on the door. So three sets of hours and no idea what's right. You are doing a disservice to your customers. I wasted more than an hour of my time and, more importantly, don't have what I need for a special breakfast. How many people show up each night thinking you are open? How long has this been incorrect? When will it be fixed. We do like the store, but in this day and age of technology, there is no excuse for publishing three sets of hours, two of which are incorrect and leave people sitting in your parking lot late at night after having driven far from home.

The six of us stayed about an hour and we picked about 8lbs. worth. Came home and had a great blueberry pancake breakfast using some fresh berries. The owner is a wonderful lady and we spent some time chatting about the area and things to do. She introduced us to her emu and was a very gracious hostess. Highly recommend a stop here if you are nearby during berry season!

The food came out really fast (for a party of 8) and it was good old country cooking. The restaurant is kind of a higher end Clarence's (in Ridgeway)... Sago's is a nicer restaurant with better food, but Clarence's gives larger portions and is better priced. Nonetheless, Sago's was good and we'll stop back again when in town.

These days Dollar General stores are popping up like McDonald's so if the company has the resources to build all these Dollar General stores, they should have the resources to pay their staff better. You can go to McDonald's & make dollars more per hour doing way less. I greatly feel sorry for the staff. Its at the point I'm wondering where each staff's 40 acres and mule are? The stores are like sweat shops literally. Every Dollar General I enter its always hot!!! The store temperatures are controlled by headquarters which is based in Tennessee. Why? How do the people in Tennessee know how it feels in Virginia? Its as if the Dollar General stores are like public housing, where the heat and ac are controlled by the main office. How does Dollar General trust employees to run their stores but dont trust them with thermostats to control the temperature? Ive been in Dollar General and have seen the employees sweating because of the heat. One employee looked as if they were going to pass out. The customers even complain about the heat. The employees complain about the heat. They are told thats its controlled by corporate and nothing changes. Like i said, a sweat shop. The store manager is a true nightmare. I would propose that when they train their store managers they also train them in customer service & how to treat people especially their staff. Then they have store contests on selling certain products so their managers can benefit. What about the staff? Do any of the contests benefit the staff? I'm not buying these products so the manager who again is a nightmare, can benefit. Phuck that noise! Yes, Dollar General has good products (most of the time) but how they run their stores & treat their employees leaves alot to be desired. ALOT!!! Their hours are not very late, and I imagine there aren't a ton of passersby after dark but it's a little puzzling to me that they're not open at least until the evening in summer. The ice cream flavor selection is considerable. Given the setting, this is not a place you'd go for non-dairy frozen desserts, it is definitely ice cream. Their peanut butter cup flavor hit the spot for me. A seasonal raspberry truffle didn't quite; the raspberry flavor was strong, but there were some ice crystals and overall textural unevenness and the chocolate truffles were not present in sufficient numbers for my liking. There is also a store which houses a small amount of produce and other fresh and preserved items, as well as a deli counter with some prepared food. I didn't find a ton of interest outside of the ice cream I came for.
