Sometimes, when I walk in, I still see the old layout from before the 90s era renovation, which tells you how much time I spent here. But I'd still do it in a minute. It was in the children's space where I truly became a reader. I'm happy to report that the children's space is still as magical as it was upwards of 30 years ago. I still like looking around for the newest in so-called juvenile fiction (which can be more daring and brave than "adult" fiction, but that's a rant for another day). At one time, BML had a book with a plate in it celebrating my completion of the summer reading program, and I made a point to check it out to keep its circulation statistics boosted. Alas, that book has since been weeded out, but a picture of a bookplate is forever. Brighton's collection is decent sized, definitely one of the larger ones in the area. When you walk in, new releases are in the room to your right. What I really like is the shelf near the entrance featuring award winners, popular titles, and things you may have missed the first time around. It's a great way to find something new. There are plenty of tables to get work done at, and small study rooms are available. A good library should have a mix of quiet and a low roar, and BML has that in droves. I will continue to utilize Brighton Memorial Library for as long as I am able to. In a world full of ebooks, sometimes you just need a physical copy, and there's nothing like going to your childhood library to grab a book.

This is after being closed for 3 days over the Labor Day weekend. The first staff member I encountered was a hefty woman of about 350 or more pounds, with long brown hair. I explained that I had a final technical interview at 10am and my apartment was a construction site, and that I wanted to know if I could use a private room for my interview. She escorted me to what was essentially an open cubicle area. I explained that I was interested in a private room. She made it clear that even though the private rooms were empty I could not use one, unless it was an open community meeting or something like that... I said, I would just use the Quiet Study area, and I expressed my dismay that this library did not have any private rooms available. (Even Livonia Public Library has private rooms available.) Later, the same hefty woman came into the Quiet Study room to offer me a comment card, which I took and thanked her for. To recap: to spite telling the woman that I had a final technical interview, she interrupted me in the Quiet Study room to provide an unrequested comment card. Then things got worse. Shortly after being interrupted by the hefty woman, two other women came into the Quiet Study room and accosted me. One of these women had a large-print name badge stating her name as Cathy Henderson. She did not say good morning, made zero attempts at professional common courtesy and attacked me verbally. The women aggressively approached me and informed me that the Quiet Study was not a place for a meeting. By this point, I got very upset that two more library employees thought it was appropriate to come into the Quiet Study area to do nothing more than to harass me. They were not there to help, or to offer assistance. They were there to provoke, bully and instigate. Is that how librarians are supposed to behave towards patrons? The excuse given by Cathy, who was petty, stupid and childish -- as opposed to professional and mature -- was to hand me a sheet with the Code of Conduct. I had had zero interactions with her or her partner! In fact, I had not talked to these women at all. I was the only person present. Why were they sent to bother me in the Quiet Study area, if not to start trouble? And did the rotund brown-haired woman send them over for that purpose? Seems like that is exactly what happened here. These women sought me out, to harass me. I explained to Cathy with a "C", that I would postpone my meeting. She absolutely was intent on arguing and provoking because instead of leaving the Quiet Study area after handing me the Code of Conduct, she proceeded to verbally harass me with threats on what would happen "if she saw me using the Quiet Study area for a meeting" -- are you kidding me?? Not only was I the only person in the area, I had already explained that I was going to request my interview be postponed, yet Cathy continued to repeat everything she had just said! I was astonished and said Do you mind? Do you mind if I get on with my work? Both Cathy and the other woman (Claire?) continued to stand there threatening me! At a public library! I have never been treated with such unprofessional hostility by someone claiming to be a librarian in a public library. These women belong in retail, or any place where petty, small-minded argumentative people thrive. Will I visit this library ever again? Not a chance. Your staff are barely veiled vulgar trash who do not deserve the title or position of librarian. AND THIS IN A NUTSHELL IS THE PROBLEM WITH ROCHESTER -- AND AMERICA -- DIM-WITTED, UNEDUCATED, VULGAR PEOPLE RUNNING THINGS THAT SHOULD NOT BE SEEN OR HEARD. Boycott this vulgar library. Side point: if you have trouble finding a title by it's library index number, it is not you. It is the brain-dead petty staff.

Lost all my good will and excitement to be a patron. Started off with .50 hold fees, in a pandemic,…read morewhen everything must be put on hold. I check out literally thousands of library items and I cannot sustain .50 cents a pop. This year alone I've already spent 40 dollars just to get my items. Escalated with late fees, which is absolute b.s., proven not to work. I was spoiled in my old system, which eliminated them. Was lied to on the phone about why I could not renew items online (why I got the hold fees, which I did pay and was still not able to renew items), and also then the person I was speaking to couldnt seem to renew the item while I was literally in real time asking them to look at my account. Finally I'm told i returned a book damaged, which is inconceivable. Disappointed in my experience here. I'll be looking for a different home branch.

This is my childhood library and I have only the fondest memories of this great space. Their child section is next level, and I remember always feeling surprised when I could get any musical soundtrack I needed. Their media selection is fab! They serve delish coffee and the checkout process is easy. The location is prime for anyone who lives in any part of chili, and is a great stop after a trip for groceries or errands around Chili. The hours are super reasonable (open until 9pm M - Th) and the parking is easy peasy. Enjoy your trip and get out to support your local library!

And it doesn't get very busy so there are always plenty of computers open and never a long line at checkout. The staff is friendly and easily engage in conversation when I want to, but don't force it when I don't. It's really the people there that earn the final star. It's close to home so it is the library where I have all of my books sent when I put them on hold. Oh. No more hold fees! Whoot! I have attended several programs, geared for both adults as well as older teens, and have enjoyed them. The book club is in the middle of a day, for some reason, so I have not attended one of those.

The Ogden Farmer's Library is an asset to the community. I frequent this library location often…read morefor tutoring purposes. They have two quite study rooms that are quite large that I often use for tutoring. When they are not available, there are plenty of tables here for working or studying. For a small library, they have a wide selection of books, and I often peruse the shelves while waiting for a student or taking a study break. The staff at this library are always kind and helpful. Generally, librarians and assistants are by their nature helpful, but I find the employees here are especially supportive.

You get the charm of the original building paired with the modern beauty of the Bausch & Lomb structure both are worth seeing. The library offers a ton of programs for kids, teens, and adults. Definitely check their website, because there's so much going on. Becoming a cardholder is easy, and once you are, make sure you look into their VIP section, you can snag free or discounted tickets to local attractions. You can check out physical books, audiobooks, and ebooks, and they're great if you need computer access or printing. They also have plenty of study areas and quiet spots to get work done. Honestly, they offer more than most people realize (myself included until recently!). The only downside is parking and it can be a bit tricky. I'm not sure if they validate or offer any vouchers, so it's worth asking. I was lucky enough to find street parking... but yes, you do have to pay. A great library with so much to offer. Highly recommend exploring everything they provide.

We go to quite a…read morefew different libraries in the area for Storytime, but this is one of the few with playtime to follow. Of course, that's everyone's favorite part! They have a great little play area for kids, too, so our weekly visit has turned into a several times a week visit to play and find new books and DVDs to borrow, and the librarians remember us. They're all super helpful and friendly. My little boy loves coming here. My only wish is that they would host a monthly (or weekly!! Daily?? ;)) sensory playtime like some libraries do occasionally. We love the community feel here though, and can't imagine not coming here now that we've started.
