Attention to where the food was sourced and great service. But we were the only ones eating. Everyone else was at the front in the original part of the building getting drunk. It was only on closer inspection that we realised this place was also a hotel. From the website it seems like a chic boutique. But I can't honestly give much information on it. First of all the layout inside is unusual and wonderful. Large tables and lounge chairs make this comfortable for coffee meetings and / or afternoon drinks for business whilst maintaining a great pub bar, not an easy trick to pull off. The food is also outstanding, definitely better than you'd expect and certainly restaurant standard +. Thats not all the wine list is good too, they offer much more than the standard cheap Australian screw tops usually found in English pubs. But this pub is also a hotel and I stayed in room 5 which was warm, clean and had a great rain shower. The bed was comfortable too and my only gripe would be that the wardrobe was tiny and my view out of the window was grim. But this is a lovely English pub and it deserves a look from anyone able to visit.

Basically it is a cosy hotel with a stylish gastro type pub element downstairs. The interior is very much old world styling with stripped wood floors and creaky stair cases. The food that they serve is also top notch and very much worth trying. Menu choices are exceptional and the portions are large. I would recommend the burger if you're feeling hungry.

However, for the cheapest stay in the Tring area Premier Travel Inn is the place to stay. The rooms are basic, but well kept with either double beds or two single beds and a television and shower as standard. The reception and cleaning staff are always friendly and don't expect a tip, which makes the stay that little bit cheaper. The major downside of the hotel is its location, a good fifteen minute walk from town, but if you're prepared to put up with is and are looking for a room in Tring, Premier Travel Inn is a cheap and safe bet.

My mum and I always do a spa day when I come back to London (I live in NY). This time Champneys was so disappointing. I'd like to start by saying most of the staff are really lovely and apologetic but the owners are cutting corners. My massage was great (shoutout Anita) but my mums masseuse couldn't give two shits. She hardly spoke to her and made no effort in the massage. We complained and she received a second massage which was (to be fair) amazing. Then we went to lunch. We lined up for 20 minutes to get into the dining room. The menu was pathetic - 4 options of a ceaser salad or a curry or fish. The salad was some soggy leaves scattered croutons and cheese (worse than plane food). The curry was okay but nothing special. I get we can't have the buffet because of COVID but 4 options? Come on? Only one veggie option..? I overheard some other guests complaining in the sauna, they said they had asked the staff why there were so few options and they were told they couldn't source any more food?! I've been to the supermarket in Tring... needless to say it's fully stocked. The soup was really good. Again I understand it's a pandemic, but cutting corners and charging the same price for a much less enjoyable experience is not going to help the business in the long term. I doubt many of the guests who were there over the same period of us will be returning. I'm sorry to say today was a major let down
