Our room was spacious, the bed was comfy, and we slept well, though the layout of the bathroom was a bit awkward, especially the placement of the toilet. On the plus side, the hotel has a sauna and pool, which added to the relaxing experience. The staff were very nice--when we asked for an extra blanket, it was brought to us promptly, and the front desk was helpful. However, the WiFi was terrible, constantly dropping, which was frustrating and meant we had to rely mostly on our phone data. Overall, a nice stay but with some room for improvement.

This is the old black and white timbered building in the main street through Wendover. It is fairly…read morenewly open having been recently refurbished and been taken on by new management and now seems to be doing really well. Basically it is a cosy hotel with a stylish gastro type pub element downstairs. The interior is very much old world styling with stripped wood floors and creaky stair cases. The food that they serve is also top notch and very much worth trying. Menu choices are exceptional and the portions are large. I would recommend the burger if you're feeling hungry.

Breakfast, which is not included in the price of the rooms, was lackluster. Powdered scrambled eggs, undercooked bacon, few choices. Carpets and walls dirty and stained. Maintenance needed on doors, jambs, etc. Took twice as long to check in and out than it should have. Instead of one credit slip for the entire amount, it was charged as one charge for the "deposit" and one for the remaining £1 owed, which will make my corporate expense reporting challenging.

The room was lovely, clean and spacious. The TV also had lots of options, more than just the usual Freeview channels. After unpacking, we decided to go down to the pool, ran by Spirit Health Club. The changing rooms were very nice and clean, nice to see after being appalled at previous hotel changing rooms. The hotel has very quick WiFi and you can get reception all around the hotel, the hotel also has a lovely outside area to sit in. The bar was great and so was the restaurant, breakfast was very well laid out and there were no bugs on the cold cuts like I usually see at other hotels. Unfortunately, the only let-down was the pancake machine, it has been heavily advertised and there wasn't even one at breakfast. The restaurant had great food as well.

I feel slightly guilty making a bad review during a pandemic when so many businesses are suffering…read morebut I do believe other potential guests should be warned when splashing out on a spa day. My mum and I always do a spa day when I come back to London (I live in NY). This time Champneys was so disappointing. I'd like to start by saying most of the staff are really lovely and apologetic but the owners are cutting corners. My massage was great (shoutout Anita) but my mums masseuse couldn't give two shits. She hardly spoke to her and made no effort in the massage. We complained and she received a second massage which was (to be fair) amazing. Then we went to lunch. We lined up for 20 minutes to get into the dining room. The menu was pathetic - 4 options of a ceaser salad or a curry or fish. The salad was some soggy leaves scattered croutons and cheese (worse than plane food). The curry was okay but nothing special. I get we can't have the buffet because of COVID but 4 options? Come on? Only one veggie option..? I overheard some other guests complaining in the sauna, they said they had asked the staff why there were so few options and they were told they couldn't source any more food?! I've been to the supermarket in Tring... needless to say it's fully stocked. The soup was really good. Again I understand it's a pandemic, but cutting corners and charging the same price for a much less enjoyable experience is not going to help the business in the long term. I doubt many of the guests who were there over the same period of us will be returning. I'm sorry to say today was a major let down
