To top it off, since I was tracking expenses on the trip, I noticed that although we got a receipt for $8.00 for our gas purchase (we topped off the tank), the amount that was charged to our card was $8.09. A lot more? No. But if I receive a receipt for $8.00, I should be charged $8.00. It leads me to believe this is a shady, cheat location trying to pass itself off as a big travel center, while it is just overcharging people for gas and offering porta-potties instead of flushing toilets - the standard at any "travel center".

There are several signs at this business that are grossly unwelcoming, prominently stating that bathroom use is not allowed, no parking etc. Inside, the place is small and far from clean, and the person at the counter (whom I presume was the owner) is not at all welcoming or friendly. I headed for the restroom, and let me tell you, it was clean enough that I almost considered living there. Almost. The snack aisle was a spiritual experience--wall-to-wall trail mix, Hot Cheetos, and mystery meat sticks. I grabbed a soda, a slice of gas station pizza and got back on the road feeling satisfied. Love's isn't just a gas station. It's a strange, wonderful rest stop between "Where are we?" and "Are we there yet?" And in New Mexico, that's pretty much magic.
