Don't go with Pella unless you want to lose thousands of dollars. Seriously. Like many stories, things started out fine. We showed Michael Zeiman our architectural plans and discussed what we needed. We inspected the windows at the show room. So far, so good. Mike then proceeded to completely screw up the order. His actual job. And he left us holding the bag. We told him we only needed one kitchen window (this was in the architect's plan). But he ordered 4 total. That's 3 extra windows. But that's not all! Initially, he put a French door on the order. But we didn't like that idea, and decided to go with a sliding glass door. Guess what? Mike neglected to CHANGE THE ORDER AND REMOVE ONE OF THE WINDOWS that we didn't need changing from French to sliding. That's a total of 5 EXTRA UNNEEDED WINDOWS. When I called him about this, he said he'd speak to his boss. But then he "forgot" about that and called me later only to collect the bill. Finally, they gave us a "restocking fee" a 50% buyback, of the 3 extra kitchen windows that Mike himself messed up and over ordered. And we didn't even catch the extra window we didn't need, which Mike should have changed. I didn't even mention how the show room operates completely separate from the delivery guys--they don't talk to each other AT ALL--and they shipped the windows in batches. The delivery guy said everything would come at once. BUT NO! The TL;DR lesson? Go through the invoice with a fine-toothed comb. Don't expect Pella to order correctly for you. Don't expect them to communicate accurately. We lost $5,000 dollars going with these people. Never work with them. Learn from our mistake. read more

I really wish I can give one star this has been the worst company I've ever spent over $30,000 with.. I year from deposit to install because of paperwork issues on there part less than 2 years since installing their lock system has busted on my front entry door. I have reached out to them numerous times via phone via email and keep on getting the runaround to get a replacement piece, I would not even have dealt with them except for the locksmith told me I have to get the replacement from them can't inter change this lock system.. If you are considering PELLA run away and save yourself the frustration... We contracted with Pella in April 2020 to replace our front door and bathroom window. In December 2020 when they replaced our door, the installer informed us that the window in the bathroom could be replaced as is but that an alternate size would be more appropriate and that he could do the full installation. Work begins on the shower window in June 2021. Fast forward to mid-August and 5 missed appointments later (with no follow-up communication that these will be missed) and we still do not have a completed shower. My family and I went shopping for a new sliding glass door, and knew that Pella had an outstanding reputation, so we had a salesman by the name of Adam Lukomski come to our home and speak about the product. We asked specific questions about the door and the grills that we wanted between the panes of glass to our salesmen, and he promised us with Pella doors we wouldn't have any issues, as you get what you pay for. So we went ahead and chose Pella for our new door. After installation of the new door 2/29), a rattling between the panes of glass (the grills) every time the door opened and closed became obvious. It was and is very noisy and not something you'd expect from a brand new door. The salesman Adam responded by saying he had never heard of such an issue, and maybe we should have lowered our expectations because we "didn't buy the Cadillac" of sliding glass doors. When we reached out to the service department, who were wonderful and fixed a separate issue with the door, (it kept getting stuck open and was extremely difficult to move) the sales manager said those doors (vinyl with grills between) have that issue and that be had spoken to our salesman in particular about it before. "This is something that should be communicated at the point of sale, as there is no way to fix it." The sales manager's name is Tony Patterson, and he's been extremely responsive and helpful, however, he can't issue a refund, nor can he fix the issue. At this point we knew we had been lied to from the start and wanted to reach out to the manager of the store (Dan Wells) for a remedy to this problem. After speaking to us once and saying he had only heard of this issue once on a window that didn't slide, he said he would look into the issue and get back to us. At this point we have reached out to him many more times, (about every other day since 3/22) and Dan Wells has been unresponsive. When I call the office in West Springfield, they tell me he is "never in his office, and he works from home." I've been calling the number he originally answered, alas, there has been no reply or response.  At this point, we still have a rattling sliding glass door, and we are being completely and totally ignored. We expected so much more from a brand like Pella, and this experience has had us wishing we had chosen otherwise. Hopefully a remedy is in the works, at this point a full refund is the only appropriate response, but it seems very unlikely.  Perhaps Pella, as a corporation, is not as professional or reputable as we'd thought. Purchased windows for an entire new home. Three large bay windows had screens that rattle by simply walking on the floor. After people came to measure, they said this was within tolerable limits. Yet the windows rattle constantly even when simply walking on the floor. You would think if you purchased new windows for a new home they would stand behind their product. I had the 16 ft sliding wood patio doors installed in my den and the 9 ft sliding doors in my bedroom, both 18 years ago. The weatherstrippings was never very good, you could always see daylight through a gap between the door and the frame. Over time the doors have been slowly rotting under the metal exterior. A few months go I pushed my finger through the wood on the bottom inside panel. A a technician came out ($133 charge) to tell me both the 16ft and the 9ft units need to be completely replaced as they are not designed to be repaired. Today I received a quote...not including installation...for $13,000!! I will never buy any Pella products again and I will tell anyone I know not to invest in their overpriced, low-quality products. I have a pella patiosliding door. It completely rotted out. I had to pay almost $100 for them to give me a quote to fix it. Then when I called the local branch to fix it as their repairman recommended. They said they do not like to repair an older door. they insisted i had to replace the entire door. I had them quote replacement and it was almost double the price of any other brand, even the big brands. do not use Pella, the sales person was nice, but if you need a repair, getting an appointment even took almost an hour. The problems that we have had with every aspect of Pella are wide and varied, but suffice it to say that they have failed us every step of the way. My most recent frustration is that I tried to get them out to my home (repair quote) for approximately 6 month, and now they simply will not supply me with the quote. Calling the service center seems like it will solve the problem every time, but then nothing happens. They eventually come back every time with a ridiculously expensive repair quote. read more

Bought a $10,000 front door from an in home sales person. Six months after install, we had an accident with a robot vacuum that broke one of our side panels. Called Pella customer service and found out the manufacturer discontinued our grille style, too bad so sad. Our only option was to replace it with a panel that doesn't match our style. No other options given. They don't care. So, we are going to replace the entire front door with an Anderson Door. They manufacture their own product and it's going to cost us a couple thousand more. Wish I had know this from the beginning, it would have saved me ten thousand dollars and all of the frustration I've been though. And the boiler plate response to this review they will probably leave, "call us to discuss", believe me.... It's been discussed to great length already. read more

Last year (2019) I ordered a screen door for my patio slider. The price was outrageous ($439) but thought it's wood to match my slider so OK. I picked it up and tried to stain it to match the slider but there were spots that just would not stain well. They said that happens with wood sometimes. They replaced and this one stained well. They told me to keep the 1st one. Last week I decided to take it apart and use the screen to redo an exterior door from the garage. I was so disappointed when taking it apart. It was entirely aluminum. One side had a 1/32" (if that thick) layer of something that took stain but it was not wood as I was told. 2 years ago a neighbor boy broke one of my windows. I called Pella to get replacement glass. They wanted ~$650. I went with some else and it was $225. Pella is so expensive and sometimes not worth it. As my Dad used to say, "a bargain at half the price". Very disappointed in Pella with the two instances mentioned above. Went with Pella because at the time they were only company with fiberglass windows. I purchased windows (2006) and a front door (2010). Those installations went well, except for one window installed in wrong opening (size difference was 1/4"). They ordered a new one and it was installed. read more

Ordered my replacement windows August 2021. I began paying for them immediately although they were not able to schedule installation until March 2022. It was a very cold day , below freezing, but I was told this would not effect installation or function of the windows. Of the 9 windows installed , 4 of them are so tight, I cant open or close them and 2 of those make a horrible screeching noise when sliding them up or down. I have contacted Pella service and complained many times. Finally in June 2022 they sent out a tech who verified the problems. He didnt perform any work but said Pella would send a crew to make the adjustments. Two months later I still had not heard from anybody. I called again today and was told this is no longer an installation issue but a service issue and would have to wait until it could be scheduled but they are very busy at this time. Dont waste your money with this organization. The product may be fine but the Pella Co. offers no customer service or backs up its product. I bought a Pella French door a few years ago between 10 to 15 years ago the bottom panel of the door completely rotted off on the exterior side of the door I calledand to the Pella and I was told if I want it fixed it would cost me approximately $1500 to fix the door they would not stand behind their product therefore I would never buy a Pella product again read more

Pella Windows in Irmo SC installed a defective French door at my (t the time 86 year old) mother's home in 2016. The replacement door also had clad damage on the stile, so seal on glass is broken. Also, the pre-finish color of the screen was unacceptable, & had rough surface on stile. They have done nothing about either of these problems since August 2016, even though she has called numerous times. I spent hours on hold this past week, averaging 20-25 minutes before hanging up. Their repeating mantra that you listen to says that their goal is to answer every call in 30 seconds, that they value their customers, yada yada yada. Every call goes to a "call center' WFH rep, and you will never speak to anyone at the local office. I spent close to an hour on the phone with Andrea, who told me that it is Pella's policy to not give out contact information for the managers. That should tell you volumes. Good luck finding a way to contact corporate. Andrea also said she would email me after the call, which she did not. I was told to expect a call 72 business hours later, but if I do not get a call... Basically Pella will sell to you & then make it IMPOSSIBLE to contact them with warranty issues. read more

First off this company Pella Windows of Richmond Virginia gave me a estimate 4200.00 sliding back door for breakfast book back fun October November time frame. The sales man was great, I was not ready to move on the deal at the time even though I secured financing through greensky. Green sky gave me an approval that ends on May 5th 2023. This past week I decided to move on with purchase because the weather has changed and I wouldn't have to worry about keeping my house warm. I reach out toy sales man and he told me he quit the company, and he would pass me to the new sales guy, big mistake ! This guy told me Pella no longer accommodates the 48 month interest free payment even though they are not the financiers ! This guy tried to give me 12 months interest on a 4200.00 Installation ! Of course I said Nope ! So I go to the website and it clearly states 36 month zero interest , and this NEW GUY TELLS ME HE CANT DO IT ! So what that tells me is that he's so worried about lining his own pockets he said screw the company ! So spemd your hard earned money where you please ! I'm going to head to Lowe's or Home Depot ! It's kinda hard to respect sales people like this. I thought I would inform you guys how the sales man for Pella Windows will disregard the website and do their own thing ! Due to damage, I had to replace a set of doors and a window. $27k for the door and window combination. The salesman quoted a three month wait for the piece to arrive. The week after I signed that turned into six months. After it was installed in December, they noted damage on the new piece and agreed to replace it. Its been six months and no date or word on when its replaced. Pella insisted on full payment and billed me for interest when I tried to hold back some money. I do not believe they will every fix the damaged door. $27k to install a damaged door. Never, every again Pella. Horrible company. read more

The reason these guys get one star is because we have windows. the reasons why they don't have 4 more: it took 3 times to install (this included us getting up early, moving all our furniture, pets, etc). First time a complete no show by installers because windows weren't "pulled" for them in the warehouse. Rescheduled. Second time was they went to the "wrong job". Third time they didn't exactly follow great masking protocols and as I'm immune compromised I'm a stickler about it. That's the installers. Ok now the office. I have spoken with the sales guy, the sales guys' manager, and the office "coordinator" via email, voice mail, phone conversation so many times I feel like I have a full time job. No one gets back to you. In sum: part (sash?) on a living room window was dented and I was told they'd replace it, caulking seal around other windows isn't great (cool air still seeps in), the casement window isn't quite set right. Timeline? Original install sept 2020. We are NOT done. And they will comment and apologize and ask me to to reach out, which I do as a revolving "nag" with the 3 people whose numbers I have. They always say the "right things". They DO nothing. We have a house of about 40 windows that need replacing....they could care less about repeat business or their customers. Apparently "Pella" as a quality name was a thing of the past, and my bad for not checking up on this. Go somewhere else. read more

I just had windows on the front facade of my house replaced. It has made a huge difference to my home that was built in the 1940's. The guys that came in to install were courteous. They arrived the day before the windows to check out the job they had to do. On installation day they came early, worked all day long and cleaned up their mess. Since we planned on doing only some of the windows we later decided to get the rest done. They now offer a three year financing plan. That means we don't have to pay for our windows for three years! Can't beat this deal. read more

I live in NC, my son (age 42) lives in Richmond, VA. I recommended Pella to him to replace his windows and doors. From start (June '20) to finish (not finished as of March 21 '21), it's been a horror show. One door they filled 1/4" of caulk under the sole plate, so it squirts out when you step on it. The external door moldings are full of hundreds of pock marks because they went crazy with the nail guns and then filled with caulk...which lasts about a month before it becomes a pock mark. Two storm doors were not replaced because they can't make them fit. Mitre's around the door moldings were not as good as I can do free hand. They didn't finish installing the windows, said they were on order...but the window is in my son's garage! The front door was supposed to be black...it is white! Lastly, the doorbell wires are just hanging out of the hose at the front door....? I am very sorry for suggesting that Pella is a safe investment. Their project manager came a couple weeks ago...would get back to them that day..."crickets" as they say. i.e. never heard from him again. My son has held back $30%, but are concerned that nobody will ever come to resolve the problems and don't know what to do. I advised them to "lawyer up". This is for sure the most horrible company I have ever dealt with . They lie about there shipment dates and the quality of there installation is awful. I ordered 2 doors for 10,000 dollars on May 24 , 2022. After promising date after date they finally came September 27 , 2022. The installation of the doors was a nightmare. We had 3 guys : one guy had no idea what he was doing , the second guy knew not much more , and the guy in charge did not know much more than the second guy. They put on a new front and back door . The handles on the door are crooked as a snake. Also after the salesman plainly told me they would put the storm doors back on , the contractor told me he would do neither. They said they didn't have time . One more thing , none of the guys knew how to put the key locks in the doors . They tried telling me they were the wrong ones and would not fit. My brother in law came over later in the evening and figured the locks out in 5 minutes. These are 3 rookie contractors trying to put in 5,000 a piece doors. If you don't mind spending thousands of dollars for horrible customer service and crappy installation ,then this is the place for you . Went to Springfield NJ showroom 11:20 on a Tuesday as their site lists hours being 9:00-5:00 weekdays. A hand-written note taped to the door informed me they were closed from 11:30-1:30 ... two hours in the middle of the day- hmmmm should have taken that as a sign. Ok, so I then made an appointment for an in-house consultation for 10:00 Wed. (today 9/18/19) and received another confirmation via email yesterday at 8:00 am. They called 3:30 yesterday (7 hours later) to cancel the appointment. A trip to Springfield showroom a complete waste of time, and took the day off to go meet them an hour away this morning only to have it canceled.... interesting business model. read more

Pella windows was always rated as the best. I'm here to tell you, go with Anderson or any other fly-by-night window company. I paid a ridiculous amount of money to replace a 25 year old bay window. I went with Pella based on their reputation in the industry. After 2 1/2 years, the windows are fogging up. It will cost $140 to have a technician out to look t it. The original bay window by Anderson lasted 20 years before I had this issue. After that long, their repair people came right out, fixed my window and didn't charge a dime. Pella as a company is not what it used to be. Go elsewhere, I will for the rest of my windows. read more

During installation of a large front bay window, they carelessly crushed the alarm system wires. It took multiple visits from the alarm company to figure out what had happened, and then there was no alternative but to rewire part of the system, at a cost to us of several hundred dollars. Complaints to Pella met first with denials that they had caused the problem. Eventually they acknowledged that it was their fault, but they were entirely unwilling to take make even the least offer of even partial reimbursement for repairs. Their post-installation evaluation survey notes that "We realize you have many choices in window and door products..." Given that reality (Andersen or Marvin, e.g.), we would never, ever again buy Pella windows or do business with Pella Windows & Doors of Springfield. read more

We just had the windows installed last year and yesterday I went to pull one of the screens out for the first time. It came out just fine but when I went to put it back in the grasping tab broke off putting a hole in the screen. So thinking that would be replaced as part of the warranty I called and after going through about 20 prompts finally got through to somebody who told me that it's not covered under warranty and it'll cost me $100 dollars to replace. It's a brand new screen and now I have whole house full of the same kind of screens that I obviously can never take out. So just be leery of this company, call their number and select anything but new sales and see just how long it takes you to get through to someone. It's a centralized call center and new sales get put right through but for existing customers you have to go through all sorts of prompts at the end of which they'll tell you that their call volume is high and to call back later. It's horrible customer service and once that contract is signed you are on your own.. read more

Wow. Where to begin? Paid thousands for a front door with side windows and everything failed within 3 years. Parts were warranted for 10 years, but labor to replace was expired. This company charged me $125 just to come to my house to say "yup, it failed". The glass is custom made so I can understand waiting 1.5 months to construct a new door, but when it came in it was wrong. I was told they would put an "executive rush" on the new door, but that equates to another 2.5 months for the install. This company's administrative diligence is the worst I've ever experienced: Their business practices are the worst I've ever experienced, their product failed quickly, and the rhetoric they spew is disgusting. I can honestly say this is the worst experience I have ever had with a company. They have failed in every aspect & have shown zero effort to prove themselves worthy of anything. Potential customers: Run away, fast! This Pella distributor doesn't deserve the 1-star rating, but Yelp requires something. read more
