We were looking for a shaved ice place in Wilmington, and found Pelican's Snoballs on Yelp. It has…read morea vaguely obscene name (lol balls), and my kids insisted that we visit it. What the heck -- let's go get some pelican snowballs. They claim to offer 100 different flavors here, and although I didn't count, I would say that might be true. There are lots of different flavors of shaved ice to choose from. This is New Orleans-style shaved ice, according to the sign outside. I don't know how this shaved ice differs from other shaved ice, but apparently, the person who started Pelican's Snoballs was from New Orleans and named the place after the Louisiana state bird. In any case, my children really enjoyed their shaved ice! We got one Unicorn, which is cotton candy flavored syrup topped with whipped cream and sparkly sprinkles. We also got a Shark Attack, which is Tiger's Blood and another flavor with shark gummies in the middle. They have some wacky concoctions here. You can take your shaved ice to go (they even have a drive-thru), or you can stay and eat at the picnic tables located outside. There is no indoor seating. When we visited, there was one person working there, so it took a little while to get our snow cones. But they were made really well and looked picture perfect, so they were obviously made with care and attention.

We went there looking for a refreshment and no one was at the window and a sign was there saying be…read moreright back but it had already been 30 minutes!!& they were open we even checked inside and no one was there definitely a waste of a trip.

I had been looking forward to trying this cute little place out. I came in for a late lunch and…read morewas greeted right away. There were only two staff working but both were helpful and kind. I asked a lot of questions and the lady spent a lot of time with me. I ended up choosing the Kalbi with Hawaiian Cole slaw and macaroni salad. The portion size was big enough for three meals. I loved nori of the salads and the meat was good, too. The decor makes you heel like you are connected with Hawaii. The two locations, Hampstead and Hawaii- really cool. I really liked it there.

Staff were friendly and food was served quick. Seating inside and outside…read more Ordered Big island ono smoothie (pineapple, mango, lilikoi (passonfruit), POG (passionfruit, orange, guava)), Malasada coated with Li Hung Mui sugar (plum powder) and filled with guava, Macapuno waffle, Loco Moco, and Ube hush puppies. I liked everything except the smoothie. I don't know if it was the lilikoi or POG or both, but it had a strong artificial sweetener flavor for my taste. The Malasada was essentially a yeast doughnut with sugar sprinkled on top. The Macapuno waffle was soft, very sweet, and had a starchy like texture from the Ube. It was a little hard to eat since it would get crumbly when I tried to eat it with my fork. Served with dried toasted coconut flakes and lots of coconut whipped cream. Loco Moco was delicious. Gravy was already on the rice and not on the meat. Would be better if they gave extra gravy so I'll have to ask for that next time! They asked how I wanted my eggs cooked. I asked for medium, but it was cooked a little bit more than medium. Eggs were seasoned with nori komi furikake (Shirakiku brand/dried seaweed, black-and-white sesame seeds)- love! Ube hush puppies were the bomb. Crispy and sweet. Definitely worth a visit!
