The tubs are absolutely filthy. The inside walls are black and feel slimey. Mold and fungus are growing on the walls. The bottom of the concrete tubs are cracked and chipped and lined with dirt and god knows what else. Soak here at your own risk. read more

Cute, funky, and a nice place for an indoor soak. The Pelican had a makeover recently, and has large meditation gardens outside the front office and rooms. The rooms have been repainted, redecorated, and updated. Our room was bright red and had a Buddhist theme. Our bed was also one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. Seriously. We also had wifi in our room, which we experienced no problems with. The indoor tubs are like huge concrete bathtubs or hot tubs. The rooms are painted in bright colors, and the water comes from large pipes that reach deep underground to the source. There are small, frosted windows that you can crack to get a bit of air. Personally, I prefer to soak in outdoor pools, but as far as these indoor tubs go, they are clean, well maintained, and offer up some clean HOT water. For $55 dollars a night, you get a funky cute room, access to the soaking tubs, and a bed made for a princess. I even stayed up past midnight and did not turn into a pumpkin. read more

I am sure there had been cigarette smoking in the room I stayed in :Pelican 1. It seemed like it had not been cleaned well (ever?). Dingy with poor lighting. I touched the remote and it was slimy! The shower dripped all night. There was a huge cockroach in the kitchen. The outlet in the bathroom didn't work. Pillows were clumpy. It just felt icky. I think I've written one other yelp review, so don't like bashing places. I enjoy eclectic and artsy and the soaking tub was nice. But the room was horrible! read more

My girlfriend and I have made an annual trip to TC for the past six years to visit friends. We always stay at the Pelican. So that in itself should be a vote of confidence. The Good: --Great value for the price. $55 for the cheaper rooms. It's like a funky 1960's motel. Very clean. --We stay in the back apartments that have a kitchen so we can cook our own food. These apartments even have a little sitting room, so it's like a suite. --Private soaking rooms with fresh clean towels. The Bad: --Over the years, the Pelican finally realized the correct century and installed wifi. Problem is that it doesn't really reach much beyond the closer expensive rooms. Also, I notice that the staff on duty are also on the internet, listening to online music, hogging the bandwidth. I'm lucky if I can check my email a couple times a day before just giving up. A hotel at any price needs to provide reliable internet. Sharing a single line for 25 rooms is useless. --The staff is hit or miss. One woman is simply cold. She doesn't seem interested in doing anything other than what's necessary. Not mean, just unhelpful. --Our room had a wall AC but extremely noisy and LOUD. Like "I can't sleep" it's so loud. Unfortunately this is the downside to a funky 1960's motel. Things that need to work are just old. We'll stay in the Pelican again because you can't beat the price. Many motels in TC can be pretty sketchy so the Pelican is alway a safe bet. I just can't give them five stars till they do a little updating. read more

I recently stayed in the Loft room at this inn. It is unique, to say the least, huge and with lots of original art and funky furniture. What it lacked was stuff I really needed though, starting with toilet paper and Kleenex. Further, none of its many lamps had a bulb stronger than 40 watts, lamps were not close enough to the beds to use for reading, no USB plugs were available for charging phone and laptop nor were there electrical outlets close enough to the beds to plug in a charger (which I brought) and still be able to reach your phone from a bed. Track lighting was also dim and no switch could be found to turn on the central track of lights, which would have made it possible for everyone to see each other (during the day we used the room for a meeting of 11-12 people). The room includes a reasonably well-equipped kitchen but the only vessels for heating stuff up were frying pans--no pot of any size, or kettle for heating water for tea. Coffee maker but no coffee. Etc., etc. The worst aspect of the room was that its many windows had completely inadequate curtains--pretty but useless for blocking out the very bright spotlights that ring the complex. I'm a person who needs virtually complete darkness to sleep, and there is no way that the Loft room can be made anything close to dark. I had to sleep with a towel over my eyes. read more

For the money, this place is a real deal. Caveat, my cheap $55 room at the pink pelican had Concrete floors, single pane windows, and 2 space heaters (of which only 1 was turned on) -- therefore, it was REALLY cold. Plus there are other issues as well. The place is cute and that's what sold me when shopping on the Internet. Service was mixed. When I arrived two hours early I was hoping to get my room, but was not available (although the clerk never ask my name or what room I had). They were kinda EMO and apathetic. But when I checked in at the appropriate time the "two Susans" were very helpful! As many have noted it is cute and funky and sometimes a little weird; I would still try again but not the pink pelican (they have a red pelican and the pelican spa, try those instead and let me know YOUR thoughts). read more

We were trying to plan a spur of the moment, one night trip to T or C to pick up a vehicle we were purchasing this past weekend (02/24/18) My mother has been ill, and I didn't know until last minute that we would even be able to leave town. We were looking online comparing rooms, trying to find accommodations for us two adults and our three small dogs, who frequently travel with us. My husband booked a room with Pelican Spa, but realized almost immediately that the reservation was for Sunday night and we needed a room Saturday. He called Pelican Spa hoping to come up with a resolution, but the woman who answered said they have a no refunds policy for reservations made through hotels.com. He asked about changing the reservation to Saturday, but she said they didn't have an available room. They were arguing by this point, and my husband told the woman that taking a customer's money without providing goods or services is stealing. He told her we would just change our plans and come for Sunday night, but she said we weren't welcome there and if we tried to check in, she would call the police. I understand the basic no refunds policy of hotels.com, but the Pelican Spa is a small motel with only a few rooms. I don't understand why their employee was totally unwilling to try to help us resolve this problem, but it made me even more appreciative of the friendly and helpful people at the Desert View motel, where we ended up staying Saturday night. I visit T or C fairly regularly and the Pelican had been on the list of places I wanted to eventually stay, but this experience says enough about how staff treat guests to let me know not to waste a trip staying with them. read more

I stayed here with my fiancé and we loved it. Theres not much to do in town other than soak in the hot springs. We went on a holiday weekend and at 2PM on a Saturday 80% of the businesses were closed. The room we stayed in was large, comfortable and clean. The lady at the front desk was kind and informative. Also, the room was cheap- where else can you get a living room, kitchen, bedroom and bath for $55 a night? The tubs for the hot spring water were cozy and clean. Extremely relaxing place with friendly staff. Great place to go to when you're driving through or visiting beautiful scenic elephant butte, nm. I cannot express how professional and caring the staff is. I was so relaxed when I left the spa that I left my wedding ring!!! The staff found it and put it in an envelope. I don't like to have to write bad reviews, but the Pelican Spa left me with no choice but to. We had stayed here 2 weeks prior and had a horrible experience in PAM #3 it was Bug and Roach INFESTED! Not to mention out dated and Dirty. We stayed the 2nd night at their House rental on Post. A sketchy neighborhood next door to people up to no good, but a nice redone trailer. It was a haven compared to the PAM units. We decided to Rent the house again this weekend, when we arrived Matt (A Manager) was very nice and helpful. When we arrived at the Trailer on Post St. From the moment we walked in it smelled and was filthy dirty as if it had not been cleaned from the last renters. There was dead bug and Live bugs every where! The sheets were dirty, as were the bathrooms and the kitchen can you say FILTHY DIRTY! As you all know we are in a Pandemic and cleanliness is more important than ever. I notified Matt immediately and he offered me a refund. We proceeded to clean the house, the LAST thing you want to do on a weekend getaway! The next day the Lady who they claim to be the house keeper showed up early morning and demanded to see the bugs and what was dirty. I told her we had taken care of it. She smelled of a liquor cabinet. She left and apologized. Upon check out I was still charged. I Notified Matt and he said it was because we had 7 people in the house. That is besides the point. The pluses: cute decor, funky, nice tubs, quiet and secluded since there are no walk-in soakers allowed. All the bathers using the all-indoor tubs are staying here. A friend and I stayed in the apartments, located right off one of the "main" streets through downtown T or C. The apartments are old, with loud window-unit ACs, but the room was clean and it was fun having a kitchenette right next to the shower. Not much bathroom privacy, but hey we're all girls here no biggie. We had a fenced outdoor seating area, not well maintained but a nice place to have some beers in the evening. It was a weekend in the summer, and the Pelican was all but deserted. We felt as if we had the whole place to ourselves, which was exactly what we wanted. Can't beat the price, I think it was $60 a night. You get to soak as much as you like. The minuses: Yes, I think it's hard to find friendly staff in T or C. Our first lady at check-in was nice, and walked us to our room, the next day we had a sullen teenager who was very unhelpful. Our stove didn't work, so we had to go in to the office to use their kitchen and make coffee. We got a shrug when we said it wasn't operating... The outdoor seating area was dirty, and the chairs in disrepair. All in all, we still had a great time and aren't the most picky guests. We loved our tiny enclosed porch with windows on to main street, and spent an evening watching the few cars that passed by. We felt like locals. (Still prefer Blackstone, but it's booked so often now when I try to reserve a room!) read more

I stayed here at least 7 times this summer. I go fishing at the lake. I've been generally happy with this place. The staff is friendly, and I like that you can use the hot springs tubs for free if you are a guest. I recommend the top rooms at the Pink Pelican building. I would give it 4 stars for value. Note: I left a phone charger there during my last stay. And apparently whoever cleaned my room just kept it. I called a few hours after I left and one of the staff members told me the room was vacant. So he went in the room and told me there was no charger there. Oh well. read more

My wife and I visit T or C from Albuquerque quite often and we've tried staying elsewhere but we always go back to the Pelican. In fact, we love it so much that we decided to get married there a couple of weeks ago and all of our guests really loved the place as well. I could not have imagined a better place. Sid, the owner, was extremely accommodating; all of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and excited; plus, the people in T or C are just great. It feels like our second home. We are so so, so grateful to everyone there. Here are the things we love most about the Pelican 1.) Each room is a different experience. Many of them even have working stoves and supplied pots and pans for cooking which is a big plus for us. While we love the suites, we are particularly prone to staying at the Apartment Motels. They are inexpensive ($55-$65/night), many with living room areas. Although i have to say that the Persimmon Suite and the Turquoise rooms (two we haven't stayed in, but which we saw when our friends booked them) were really awesome. Also, when we bring people to town, we stay in the Loft is more space than you could ever want. And quite impressive (though the air conditioning is quite loud) 2.) The private tubs - take a soak! Even if it is hot out. It always makes my skin softer and my body feel lighter. They are also unlimited and they give you as much water as you can drink (unlike other places that charge for towels or water and all of the above. Here, it's all included.) 3.) They have a real do it yourself atmosphere. Communal kitchens. Communal areas. Grab more towels if you want them. Don't need to reserve your tubs. 4.) They are close to everything, especially Bella Luca, the Happy Belly Deli, and the Little Sprout grocers which we visit every time we are in town. In short, we love the Pelican! read more

I try to hit Art Hop ( second saturday of each month ) when I can because its the coolest night to be in T or C I waa looking to see if theres anything new and i saw that old standby the Pelican rated lower down the list than i would expect. Seriousily hos can you rate a clean, near well decorated place in the middle of town low because YOU didnt read the policies which because they include unlimited tubs with the ridiculous low room rate is probably there to protect them. Its $15 to soak anywhere in town in a private and you can go back as many times as you want here. Me ? When I check in, when i come back in, early next morning and before i check out. Hot natural mineral water and unlimited towels. All included. Rooms fine, i didnt come to stay inside or surf the net though they have robust all chanel Direct TV so i can catch HBO. I haven't had any trouble with the customer service here, happily. However I always stay in the Aqua Room, right next to the office. Why? Yes, it's kind of loud when the office is open. But when the office is closed, you have the kitchen and living areas, including the computer, to yourself. Also, Aqua has its own hot tub. Soak with ear buds and you don't have to worry about the noise anyway. And everyone who works in the office has been quite nice to me on several visits. read more

I had emailed Sunday to the address that sent me my invoice and had not received a response so I called today. Matt said he would call back so I waited. My wife and I stayed at the Pelican Annex, which is on the southern edge of town but still close to downtown and about 0.6 miles from the spa. The room was incredibly nice, especially for the cost, and the service was terrific. We spent an entire month there, avoiding the heart of a Minnesota winter. Sid and Grace are terrific hosts and the rest of the staff at the spa were gracious, helpful, and friendly. The room/apartment is very 1960's with art on every wall and everything we needed for a long, comfortable stay. Be sure to call in advance for long term reservations. read more

This place was great!!! We stayed here on a whim to break up our drive to AZ. Every room is different with funky decor. We stayed in the cheapest room at $45 for the night (we got into town late); it had a nice queen bed, small bathroom with an awesome (though small) shower, a cute sitting area, and direct tv. The staff was helpful and attentive and also provided us with an excellent quick dinner recommendation. The only issue was the couple that decided to fight outside about their dog being loose. I was really impressed with the Pelican Spa. My 2 kids and husband decided to take a quick trip to Truth or Consequences for a couple days to enjoy the hot springs. We ended up choosing the Pelican Spa because they allowed kids (some of the spas in T&C don't allow kids) and because the room prices were pretty cheap. We ended up getting two rooms because my husband wanted the Aqua Room which has the personal soaking tub in the room. As we had 2 kids we needed something bigger so me and the kids stayed in the Turquoise Room. I really loved the quirkiness of the place. I loved how colorful the rooms were and the art/decor. The rooms were really clean and the staff was very friendly and courteous. We really enjoyed our stay here. The only (minor) complaint I have is the beds. They were a little uncomfortable and the pillows were thin but for the price we paid this wasn't a big issue. read more

We love it here! We are a family with both teenagers and younger kids and this place is perfect for all of us! We have stayed in several rooms over time and enjoy them all. No two rooms have ever been alike and they all have so much character and charm. My teens love the free Wi-Fi and my husband enjoys the Direct TV. The patios are great early or later in the day for enjoying a cup of coffee and a book. The unlimited soaking is also amazing and they have a tub that easily accommodates our whole family! I stayed in the Loft at the Pink Pelican: Beyond the fact that the cleanliness and hospitality of the room/hot springs - the staff is phenomenal. The morning of my departure, I was in a hurry and accidentally left one of my bags in my room (which happened to have my laptop)! I had already driven 1.5 hours away but the owners were able to quickly return it to me having gone well out of their way to do so. I've stayed at just about every one of the hot springs hotels in T or C, but the Pink Pelican takes hospitality to a whole new level. read more

I made a reservation at Pelican Spa just a few days before my trip. I gave them my debit card number to hold the room with the intention that I would pay cash when I arrived. The day before I was supposed to go I saw that the full price of the room was taken out of my account. I was consequently overdrawn. This error could have been easily avoided had I been clearly informed while making the reservation on the phone that my card would be charged at that time. I was so put off by this lack of service as well as the fact that I had a fee from my bank for the overdraft, that I had no desire to go to Truth or Consequences or the Pelican Spa and cancelled my trip even though they had already charged me for the stay. I later saw that in an email confirmation it did state that my card would be charged.... this email was not checked until it was too late, and my absolute bottom line is that I should have been informed at the time of making the reservation to avoid any problems! When I called to dispute this charge the girl was unaccommodating and unapologetic, saying that it was my error. The whole thing leaves me with a very bad taste in my mouth and I would never consider dealing with this establishment again. read more

We were driving cross country and got a flat tire on I25. We looked on line to find a place to stay the night and called this establishment to reserve a room. I explained the situation we were in and told them I wasn't sure what time we would be able to arrive. They took my credit card and charged it even before I hung up the phone. No mention of the cancellation policy had been made which was a major oversight given the circumstances I was in. Once the tow truck arrived a couple hours after the reservation was made, the driver informed us that we would not be able to make it to the hotel safely once the tire was replaced with a spare. We explained the situation in detail to the manager and asked for a refund. She and her boss absolutely refused to do so. These people showed a complete lack of empathy for me, my husband and 12 year old son. I would never do business this way. These people are just looking to steal money even if they are not able to provide a service. Good customer service means evaluating particular circumstances and being flexible. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my 50 years of life. DONT STAY HERE BASED ON PRINCIPLE ALONE. Go to Riverbend Spas. I heard they were the BEST. read more

I'll start of by saying I've given 2 stars out of kindness. We had made a 2 night reservation for a king room. An hour before we arrived I was called to see if we would take a different room with a queen bed. Manager assured me we would love it because it was a small suite. Although it's very cute and retro looking and they do have the mineral baths on site, I was not impressed at all with the room. Wish I'd not been so accommodating. We decided to check out the next morning. Manager was going to check with owner/real estate agent to see if he would credit us. I figured since I was accommodating he would be. NOPE!!! Irritated that they don't have accurate information on their website. Their website indicates that grills are available so we came prepared with everything to grill food. 1. No mam', the lady at the front desk said it hadn't worked in years and that it was against city code to use it on premises. 2. the website says no pets. the front desk informed us that they are pet friendly, there is a $25.00 fee. 3. The website indicates there is a fee for extra people including infants, so we paid the $15.00 fee to come home and realize that the contract i signed says its for kids ages 6 and up. my kid is 4 years old. Also, they have a no smoking policy but my room reaked of cigarette and I think it was coming from the front desk- either someone smoked heavily in the room or the front desk ladies- who i think smoke- shared their second hand smoke into the facility. not a fabulous experience but we made the most of it. read more
