It's easy to bypass this little inn for some of the bigger names in TorC. But that would be a big mistake. Not only does the Desert View Inn have ridiculously good prices, it also has the nicest proprietor in town - Hans! Hans is also president of the Chamber of Commerce and he knows customer service! He is dedicated to making his guests comfortable and happy - even down to bringing around coffee in the morning. The rooms are simple but extremely comfortable. Amenities include free WiFi, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, flat screen TV with satellite, and bath products. There is also a charming outdoor seating area with a large grill for guest use as well as chairs and tables outside of the rooms. The real fun, however, is Penny! Penny is Hans' adorable gentle giant of a dog, who will lovingly greet you at check-in and around the grounds! read more

Highly recommend! I stayed one night in a newly remodeled lovely and spacious kitchenette room on my way back to ABQ from Riverbend Hot Springs. This is off the main road so it's in a convenient location if you're heading in or out of T or C for hot springs and you don't want to fork out a bunch of cash for the overpriced resort properties. The rate was reasonable and there was a full kitchen with a small stove, sink, refrigerator, microwave, and even dishes and pans for cooking in the cupboards. Dining table too! Nice desert view of T or C out my window so I get how it got it's name. The place was clean with a comfortable bed and wifi. Loved the seating provided out front if you want to sit outside and soak in the surroundings with a glass of wine or coffee. read more

We stayed two nights here, based on positive Yelp reviews, and we weren't disappointed. They had such a warm and personal touch.. Upon checking in I met a very friendly cat, a helpful employee, and the charming owner, who refuses to serve bad coffee. They hand deliver fresh coffee daily! The owner used to be on the chamber of commerce, and cares so much about the Truth or Consequences community that he developed an app that helps travelers find all of the services they might need. The owner referred me to a stellar massage therapist, who realigned my body after a great hot springs soak. With soft cotton sheets, the beds were comfortable, the rooms well-decorated and clean, and they offer a nice view of the surrounding mountains. The hotel is less than a 5 minute drive from old town and the hot springs. Staying at the hotel gets you $2 off entry into Riverbend Hot Springs. Definitely returning! read more

My mother in law, my two young kids, and I stopped into Truth or Consequences last summer, unplanned. I insisted we at least check out a hotel that was not a big name, and I am forever grateful that I did. As soon as we entered the front desk lobby, I immediately felt comfortable and the energy of it was so inviting. Hans is the best hotel owner EVER. The rooms are simple, adequate, clean and comfortable. The hand delivered fresh ground coffee was perfection. Hans spoke (and sang) fluent German, which was amazing, because my mother in law is German. Had a mineral bath at the mineral pools, dinner @Los Arcos steak n fish had a shared plate swordfish, potato. asparagus cooked in coconut oil and good green salad there. Hotel is clean and the owner was sweeping our place when we drove up and after Checking in he said he wanted to change the shower curtain before we went in and he did it. Total height not more than 6'1". In addition to the weird shower height, the shower arm is weirdly LOW. I'm 5'7" and the arm was at eye level with the nozzle at my chest level. The towels were thin and tiny. They reminded my husband of high school gym towels. My high school didn't have any - so they reminded me of hand towels. Cheap hand towels. The bathroom is extremely small with no room for a waste basket and no electrical outlets. You have to go all the way in to the bathroom to close the door. The waste basket is just outside the bathroom door, under the TV - which is sitting on a makeshift TV stand which sticks out past the bathroom door opening. My husband cracked his head on the stand and had a big knot and bruise. While the bathroom was tiny, the closet was generous. The only reason this is a CON is because it's clear that there's room to renovate and they just haven't done it. The blankets are paper thin. There was one on the bed and two extra. With all three blankets, we were barely comfortable and felt lucky that it wasn't cold out. The curtains let in a lot of light, so there's no sleeping in if the light bothers you. There's no phone in the room. The bedside alarm clock is extremely bright. There a TV tray in place of a nightstand on one side of the bed. There was no instruction to leave the key on checkout and no one was in the office when we left (after 8am) - we ended up leaving the key in the mailbox by the door. read more

We really enjoyed our stay here. The very sweet owner clearly takes a lot of pride in the space. Everything was clean, tidy, neatly painted, and there are little homey touches (owner brings you coffee, seats outside your room, succulents, a grill, picnic tables, etc.) that make this place feel super cozy. The owner is very sweet. If you stay here, you also get $2 off the Riverbend hot springs rate. It was nice to be able to walk to get some ice cream, go bowling, and explore the little Main St area after driving all day. I highly recommend this inn! read more

My wife and I have spent 3 nights here in 3 different rooms recently - they are always very clean and clearly cleaned and arranged with care. We've slept well every night. This is not a $100+ a night brand new big chain hotel, it's older and smaller and has individual charm and yes, the showers are small but the water is hot, the beds comfortable, and most important - everything clean - and the owner/management clearly cares very much about your satisfaction and is slowly and surely making efforts to upgrade and modernize as they can. Wifi is free and has worked very well for us. Hans at the desk is wonderful to talk to and we feel much better spending our money here than at some massive chain that doesn't need the money and has miserable folks with forced smiles working there. read more

What a great experience. Hans, the owner goes the extra mile to make sure you are comfortable. At check in he asks if you would like coffee and how you like it for the morning. He is knowledgable about the surrounding area and will help you with any and all information. Staying at the Desert View Motel is equivalent to a bed and breakfast with much more privacy. Over the years, we have stayed at Holiday Inn Express, Marriott Gardens, Fairfield Inns etc. Those places are sterile corporate run moneymakers. Desert View Inn is affordable...50 bucks a night with all the amenities. The rooms are neat and clean. If you need ANYTHING Hans will make sure you get it. Easy 5 star review for me. read more

Admittedly I had set my sights on the Rocket Inn down the street, but with no vacancies - the concierge there pointed me to the Desert Inn. At ~ $40 a night I got a clean, quiet room with wifi, mini fridge, microwave ... it was well worth it. The man running the place (whose name I don't recall,) was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. He's that small town man who seems to know everyone in town, and all the ins and outs. He was full of great suggestions of things to do, and little known sights to see in the area. I even followed a few suggestions and was not disappointed. Fresh coffee in the mornings, and a relaxed atmosphere. I'd say the only downside is that they're currently doing road construction outside, but that can't be helped. If I find myself in TOC again, I will definitely stay here again. read more

This motel was a pleasant surprise, at a bargain price. The room was clean & well-maintained, with a good fridge & microwave. The plumbing worked well & the owner was a very cordial man w/ a slightly British(?) accent, & a droll sense of humor. The cost? - - -$40 / nite. Be sure to take advantage of his inexpensive vouchers for the nearby (2 min. away) hot springs at the River Bend Lodge with its native stone-lined mini-pools, each with a nice view of the adjacent Rio Grande river. read more

Wonderful find! Sweet, old school 10 room motel owned by a lovely Brit. Room was quieter than expected, view is lovely. Towels lush. Beds comfy. If you are in T or C your options are limited. I much preferred staying at the Desert View Inn over the couple of chain motels in town (they are closer to highway and likely more noisy too). The owner of the Desert View Inn is NOTORIOUS for overbooking rooms and sending you to another motel (Rocket Inn - not as nice). Two years in a row this has happened to members of our club when we book rooms as a group. When I complained about it this year, the owner started yelling at me before I could explain why I was unhappy. He was quite insulted that I did not accept his giving my guaranteed room to someone else. I found the owner to be very rude and his actions insulting. I rented down the road at the HOT SPRINGS INN (575- 894-6665) which has the same services, a pleasant staff, plus a nice continental breakfast. Also, you can get free coffee and cookies anytime! Try HSI, you will be much happier. read more

This is not a five star hotel. I am giving it five stars for its cleanliness, extremely reasonable rates and friendly staff. When we arrived we had two small pets which I previously called about and was told I would be charged $5.00 per night for each pet, the owner at the front desk, an English man, I think was so kind. He only charged us for one pet. And when we decided we wanted to stay an extra night he said the room was booked, but he would see what he could do. The next morning we woke up to snow and that changed our plans completely, so we decided to go home. When I told the owner about this, he said no problem, That he was able to make things work for us to stay another night, but would not charge us, since we decided to leave. There is really nothing much to do in this town but, hike and go hot springing. So, if you're passing through on your way to Santa Fe, and need a quiet, clean, and cheap place to stay this is it!! Disappointed by the lack of effort by the staff. I stayed from Sunday to Saturday and received coffee once. The dirty mug and dirty coffee machine stayed in the same place all week. I was out of the room at 8:30 every morning, returning for an hour at lunch and then again at 6:30 or 7 at night. The front office was closed every time I tried and so couldn't lodge a request about an extra blanket as it was really cold at night, ask for coffee or even find out where to drop off the keys when I left. Room was not cleaned on more than one occasion. The room was dark even with 4 lamps on. Bathroom was so small that you had to close the door to be able to get to the sink. The sink was filthy, looked like someone had spilled paint in it and hadn't bothered to clean it. The pull chain on the one light broke off and so I could not switch that light on at all. Needless to say not a place I will stay at again. read more

We needed a clean shower and bed Truth or Consequences looked like a good place to spot to stop at. This was all last minute approaching midnight. And we were luckily enough to stop here. Affordable, clean, the manager was friendly and helpful. Not a fancy place in any regard no special amenities but it is perfect if you just need a clean room and shower. read more
