The king bed was very comfy. That huge soaking tub was perfect. Not much hot water for the shower, so be ready for that. Plenty of space for your stuff. My disappointment was no visit from the cat‍. Sweet little spot is the Agave room at Fire Water Lodge. Nice big soaking tub in the room so you can soak when you want to. My daughter and son in law stayed there a few nights of their stay and they both enjoyed it. They bought some tasty, fresh ground piñon coffee from Bullocks, the local grocery store that is just down the street, for the drip coffee machine. Everything was nice. This review is based on what we'd like to have known before making a reservation. We spent a long weekend at the River Casita on Riverside Drive, which is a few blocks from the downtown Fire Water Lodge motor court. This offsite unit was the size of a nice, clean, roomy studio apartment. The unit was light-filled. All windows (save high one in bathroom) had privacy curtains or blinds. However, when we visited, the unit lacked anywhere to hang clothes except on two hooks in the bathroom. There was no dresser. Parking was convenient in the front yard driveway close to the casita. The residential location was peaceful except when visiting patrons across the fence yelled, or occasional car passed with music blasting. When asked, staff gave us the wifi code. We couldn't find the code written anywhere in the room. A face-to-face, two-person jacuzzi tub was in the fenced/walled, flagstone patio (no roof above the tub), nice for sky viewing. The dual-lounger tub was comfortable for relaxing soaks. The plastic steps to the tub were slippery when wet. The website listed the River Casita tub was "filled with geothermal hot springs water." Nowhere on the listing did we notice the water in this tub would be warm. Well, the temperature of the water in the tub was in the 90s. When asked, staff said the casita's tub water was "warm" due to the hot springs being cooler near the river. We were then informed that at the motor lodge there was a private outdoor tub available 24/7 with hot water. The casita's large bathroom shower had a big shower head high up on the wall, but there was no handheld shower head. There were two gates in the patio, one to the driveway and the other to a path next to the Back House by the River unit to an open patio near the river. Neither gate locked. Staff told us we had shared access to that riverside patio, which was in the yard of the other unit - awkward. But that view was excellent of the flowing, murky Rio Grande and Turtleback Mountain. In the casita, there was a mini split on a wall by the bed and an AC window unit in the kitchen. Besides the room being available, we chose the River Casita primarily for the bed, which we were informed was firm. We were not informed the bed's mattress was memory foam (not as supportive as a regular firm mattress). The memory foam mattress was covered in what looked to be plastic (traps heat, inhibits airflow). The sheets were 100% polyester microfiber, not breathable, (traps heat and moisture). If you tend to sleep hot, this synthetic bed's heat retention may be uncomfortable. We were there when the early autumn's temperature was in the low 80s and nights in the 50s. Can't imagine sleeping on a memory foam mattress during hot weather. Weird concept for a mattress to compress when laid on, making it hard to move, but rebounds after person gets out of bed. That was our first experience with a memory foam mattress and synthetic sheets - dealbreakers for future vacations. Thankfully, the River Casita had a couch to sit on. Thankfully, there were no chemical plug-in room fresheners, which are indoor air pollutants. Roomy kitchen with small table and two chairs. For regular cooking, the kitchenware was minimal and looked thrifted. That seemed rather low-budget for a $155 per-night room. For example, pans only included two frying pans and one sauce pan (no lids). There was no drawer divider for utensils loose in drawer. There were no cereal bowls so we bought two and donated them to the casita. No dish drainer save a wire rack inside the single-bowl sink. There was a two burner cooktop, toaster oven, microwave, but no standard oven. There was a coffee maker and small college dorm fridge. Also "frugal," besides a few tiny sample hand soaps, there was only one liquid hand soap in the casita and it was almost empty. The dish soap bottle was almost empty as was the one paper towel roll, no cloth kitchen towels. There were two rolls of toilet paper total, four bath towels, two robes, and some washcloths, and some extra bedding. There were a few alive spiders inside the casita and a few cockroaches in the throes of death on the patio. The unit next door (Back House by the River) had some very nice landscaping along the path, but the River Casita was in dire need of aesthetic attention, e.g., a few native plants planted in the patio's small dirt areas. Tip: To lock casita when leaving to go to town, the lock on the patio door's interior needed to be toggled to the lock position BEFORE closing the door. The door's keypad did not NOT have a lock button. read more

My husband and I can for a long weekend. We stayed in the sunflower Casita. Very friendly staff and a warm welcome. The unit was extremely clean. There is a walk-in shower. The kitchenette has a mini fridge and freezer, microwave, and basic utensils, a coffee, pot and sugar. There is a full community kitchen (we did not use or visit it at all during our time). The private outdoor tub was incredible - it filled quickly and both of us fit. You are within walking distance to a brewery, and various little shops. If you are visiting and have not been to truth or consequence before, I would recommend bringing snacks/planning ahead where to eat becausebecause things close early! On my third visit to Firewater, I stayed in one of the basic rooms onsite (previously, I'd stayed at the offsite casitas), and I have to say it's a pretty major downgrade. I stayed in the Eucalyptus room, which has a private outdoor tub. The tub itself was very nice, no complaints there. However, this room is the closest one to the communal outdoor tub, which means every time I went out for a soak I had to listen to the music and/or very loud conversations of the patrons using the communal tub. I didn't see that space, so I'm not sure if it has any signage asking folks to speak quietly (which is pretty standard for spas etc), or if the people enjoying it were just not aware of the impact they were having on other guests. Either way, pretty big bummer when the sole purpose of your trip down there is to relax. The room itself was fine except for two things: 1) the bathroom smelled terrible, like mildew or mold. So bad I kept the window open and the door to the bathroom closed the entire time. 2) I realize the website specifies that these rooms don't have full kitchens, but I was surprised to not find a single bowl, plate, or utensil in the whole place. There's a microwave for reheating food but nothing to eat the food with. Overall, the experience was just okay. I'd consider booking one of the casitas in the future but not one of the standard rooms. read more

It felt like a bait and switch happened to us. We were told that our original room by the river was not available because the jacuzzi pump was down. I was given a choice of other rooms at a different area. I took it since we drove over an hour to TC. The rooms at THIS facility are substandard. The main problem is the spring tub that pumps up to 108 degrees water and ya can't control it. So when we filled and got it in, it cooked us. So the room is hot and we are hot it's 105 outside and the room note says if it gets too steamy just open the door. Really it's 105 outside. The room I reserved the tub was outside. Again, felt like it was a bit convenient that this broken jacuzzi was found only after I showed up. No calls prior to my arrival. No offer of a refund just a really good deal off the remaining rooms. I seriously do not understand the high reviews. There was dog shit in your little patio area, flies in my room, a window shaker AC that struggled to keep the room around 80 plus degrees. We could only suffer in this very old, very hot uncomfortable $150 a night room. You could not pay ME to stay there. The lady that "helped" was not helpful when I called to complain. She said I'll call you back. Um no! I'm leaving and you know why. It's impossible to be comfortable when it's so hot and you were promised a nice room updated room and get the 70-80 updated from the 1800's yes, that's updated. You said you have WFI, BS! You said there was cable? 5 channels from what I can assume is from an antenna. I've stayed at super 8 hotels that are nicer. The furniture was very old. Office desk lamps from Walmart were used instead of a regular nightstand lamp. So the dungeon was lite up by these beaming lights. Ghetto ! The towels were old and tattered and looked dingy. Nothing as advertised. Bait and switch!! No I won't remove this post for a positive post. You robbed me of my birthday week getaway. I give you no grace! It's a con and everyone will know how unfit your business is. I would have taken pictures but we literally packed up and left with a few hours and there was a weird smell coming from the sink area. To be fair, I think I sat my backpack on the patio and I think so funky finger nail polish stuff got on it. It was so foul smelling. I had worried the bed might be under par with the hot springs being the main attraction, but it was perfect as well. Great support, firm and not too firm. There's a nice courtyard with tables and seating areas. The room was nice, other than a slow drain and a strange smell (Febreeze?) which dissipated quickly. Our room was "economy," which meant there was a shower and hot tub with jets in a private area outside. Nice, I like being outside. The owner told us to turn the jets on high, not halfway. It turned out the jets didn't work and the shower was a hose with cold water. I did not like being lied to. We stayed anyway because we liked the hot bath even without the jets and it was only for one night. Bonus: the cat that lives in the courtyard. But sometimes shes noisy at night. read more

I give this place 5 stars because it fully deserves it. Our first time here. We extended our stay from 2 to 3 nights. Wonderful little Mom & Pop place. Although I don't know whether the friendly owner Richard has a partner or not. Really great and friendly (and accommodating) staff. Located in the Historic T or C Bathhouse District. This is a small "motor court" type motel. The main lodge has a great common area. Outdoor and indoor hot springs soaking tubs. Most of the rooms have private mineral hot springs tubs. And they are gorgeous! Tiled and spacious for 2 (or more?) friendly people. There's an outdoor soak pool that would accommodate 5 or more. The common area has a full kitchen (shared with the staff) and charcoal grill (and more). We stayed in the Agave Room across the street. Very nicely remodeled. Original random length oak floors. Fine custom cherry wood counters and cabinetry. Exceptional tile work. Comfy king bed. Good quality linens. Small (but not tiny) fridge. Microwave. Coffee pot with coffee etc provided. Two robes provided to use after your soak. Excellent local artist paintings in the Agave theme. Free & good wifi. Arched doorways. The structure probably dates from the 20s. Two large corner windows. But everything (except the windows- which I liked) is virtually new. And good quality. In my opinion (and we're hot springs questers) T or C is some of the finest waters you will find in the SW. Close - walking - to restaurants. Try Bella Luca next door. Fine wood fired pizza. Nearby are local shops, galleries, grocery store. Check out the Geronimo Springs Museum steps away. Reasonably priced for the area (under $100). You could go to Blackstone across the street for more than half again the price. You want fancy (and snooty) go there. We used to. Fire Water provides comfortable and shaded outside smoking areas. Blackstone is totally nonsmoking- which you don't find out till you check in:(. Pros: really excellent accommodations especially for the price. I've listed a lot of the good stuff above. The Agave room has a very private (shared with the Sunflower room) area. Good off street parking. Cons: Not enough thought (effort?) has been put into the outside area around the Agave and Sunflower rooms (unlike the common area across the street). With a little work - like sweeping the dead leaves and replacing the dead plants and garbage liners - it could look and feel just as nice. That's probably why the main lodge rooms were booked when we made our reservations a day before arrival. They've got shaded area with a table but the mesh kind of shade which isn't quite enough for my lily self. Some cushions on the iron chairs & Kleenex would be nice. We've been coming to T or C for 4 years now. Fire Water is our new home away from home. Except for the really petty things I've listed in cons (and even with them) this is a great place and exceptional value. We'll be back! But no worries as staff immediately provided a hot plate which worked fine. As usual the staff are super friendly and helpful. Room & bed very comfortable. This room doesn't have an inside hot pool but instead has a private outdoor pool - which we prefer. A hidden gem! We spent one night in the Waterfall Room and loved everything about our stay. The decor was stunning, the bed was comfortable, and the room was clean and stocked with everything you need for a relaxing evening (robes, mini-fridge, DirecTV, window A/C unit, a variety of soaps and shampoos, coffee maker, etc.). The location is great too, with several restaurants and a grocery/liquor store in close walking distance. Of course, the best part is the in-room hot spring bath, which is incredibly relaxing. The tub is even bigger than it looks in the photo, and the tile is beautiful. Be forewarned that the mineral water is very hot at first; we found it best to fill the tub and let it sit for about 10 minutes before getting in. But once you get in, you won't want to get out. It is definitely a unique experience to have a mineral hot tub inside your room, and worth it to do one night in the area. We stayed 4 nights though, and felt like it wasn't worth a longer stay - the walls are very, very thin so it's pretty noisy and some of the facilities are a bit run-down. The owners are very responsive by phone though, which was helpful even as the office wasn't open while we were there. The kitchen was nice to have, as there are not many food options, but could definitely use more basics. read more

Our only negative feedback is that the room did not feel very clean. The toilet & sink was dirty & had not been wiped down well. Great spot. We drove down from Albuquerque and stayed in the Sunflower Casita, which was across the street from the main lodge. Room was spacious, 1930s style motel, well furnished, very relaxing. Most of the rooms have in room tubs with the hot springs piped right in, but ours had a private, enclosed metal tub right across from it. Beautiful, relaxing and lovely to take in the hot water in the cool night air. I've been coming to TorC for 10+ years but this was our first time here and I'd highly recommend it. 5/5 and we're looking forward to returning. read more

Very Clean Rooms! the atmosphere here just makes you sleep well. or at least after a nice soak in the mineral tub and i'm out like a light. best of all its a good price for the rooms. and the rooms come with everything you could want except for maybe a nicer TV. but you won't even use it here when you can just relax, soak, and enjoy the atmosphere. i think this place is best in the winter time. it's so awesome to soak in the tubs while it's cold:) read more

We stayed in the Agave room across the street from the main property! It was nice and quiet, very relaxing and peaceful. The tub is huge! It was also nice to be able to use the outdoor tub at the main property. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. The town is small and quaint. Every restaurant was delicious and friendly people everywhere we went. The only weird thing, is when we booked. I really wanted the River Casita and it said to call. I called and left a message, but never got a return call. I blocked my number and called again after not getting a call back and a woman picked up, she said they were all sold out. I told her there is still availability showing online. So I hung up and booked online and had no issue? I've never had that type of experience trying to book a room. What a disappointment to arrive at the Fire Water Lodge to find a very outdated, dirty facility. The large hot tub was old and had large cracks, the sauna tubs in the rooms had film and were wet, the toilet seat had chips. There was staff on site but she purposely walked around us and did not acknowledge our presence. We had rented two rooms which were a gift from a relative and ended up leaving the facility after seeing it's true condition. The on-line pictures are very deceptive. When Richard was contacted by phone he became very angry and stated there was no way he would do a partial refund. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT with both the condition and the lack of customer satisfaction. read more

This is not the nicest place you can stay in T or C, but I adore it, and I would pick it all over again! The price is VERY reasonable for what you get and we adored our weekend here. All the employees are friendly, helpful, accommodating, and sweet, plus we loved hangin' with Boots the courtyard meowface. We loved having our own tub and used it CONSTANTLY. Our room was spacious and quiet. We enjoyed eating our (brought) breakfast in the shared courtyard every morning. While everything in T or C is well located (you can walk anywhere from anywhere, really), I'd say this place is especially so! Took about 1 minute to walk to all the restaurants we went to and to the brewery. If you are looking for a fancy, up-scale place, you might not want this one. If you are more laid back about that stuff, you'll be impressed and delighted here. read more

Love love LOVED Fire Water Lodge. Got in around 6pm after driving up from Tucson and let myself into room #8, the Morning Glory Room. My jaw dropped when I saw the bath; it was easily getting on to three metres long, like a miniature lap pool. Pulled on a lever and out gushed hot mineral spring water. Wild! I recommend filling the tub maybe two hours in advance, because hot is HOT. I settled in with a takeaway pizza (fantastic) from around the corner and some booze and chocolate. Be aware that not much is available food-wise in T or C on a Sunday evening. I loved Fire Water Lodge and its resident cats so much I didn't want to leave and wished I'd booked an extra night. read more

What an incredible disappointment. Husband and I were trying to celebrate a life event some place close to where we live. T or C was 3 hours away and I had always wanted to stop by for a soak. We got there at exactly 3 pm and there was no key in our door as promised. No one was in the office so I called and no one picked up until the second time. I was told to walk around and look for someone cleaning room 3 (uh, ok?). I found a lady and told her there was no key. Her face dropped because apparently, she gave the key to someone completely different moments earlier...like, before check in even started. She then told me those people were not in their room and had gone to pick up some groceries. She made some phone calls to confirm that I wasn't mistaken about my reservation (I wasn't.) Next, the wrong occupier of the room apparently left while I was in my car talking to my boyfriend about it. The lady flagged them down and talk to them for a second. I assumed it was to tell them to get out of the room, but no, she just asked their names. At some point the man at the main phone line called me back and told me to tell the cleaning lady to take those people's stuff out their room. So here is the situation--they were going to go into the room, pull out the stuff of the people who thought they were supposed to be there, and then let us in to wait until...what? The other people come back with a copy of our room key? The lady did not even offer to clean it again she said "they weren't in there that long." I called the main number and asked for my money back about 35 minutes into this circus. We will be getting our money back (per the man on the phone), but we drove 6 1/2 hours yesterday for absolutely nothing and I would be lying if I said I didn't cry about it because we had a pretty low bar going into this. I was looking forward to this for weeks and I am still sad as heck writing this because I just wanted to take a damn bath and microwave some food and relax for a one night and it was wrecked. If you are coming from farther away, make sure you understand that the check in system is stupid. Almost anyone can just walk in and take your room...no one checks and no one cares. We wanted to see if we should bring family down here when they visit from the east coast but there is no way I am going to bother even going to T or C again after this. I wanted to love this place, but I don't really. The Agave room was rustic with a huge, fabulous bathtub that two people could easily fit in. It was wide enough for me to side sideways. Very hot, natural hotsprings water is pumped in directly which is wonderful and private. But. But, the hot tub in the room made the room very moist and hot which made sleeping a bit uncomfortable. And it was icy and noisy with the A/C on though the humidity was reduced. And with just the ceiling fan on it was noisy, temperate and humid. No other options if you take a bath, which is why we are in T or C, right? There is no maid service, which was a surprise. I called and was told "we don't do that." Then he added, "unless you specially request it." Of course, it was too late to request it so the guy made it clear that we could leave and not be charged for a second night. Read: If you don't like it, leave. Great. So, I'd recommend requesting maid service, if only to get clean, dry towels. No blow dryer either. We never would have seen the innkeeper if we didn't request fresh towels; they both seem to prefer to communicate via phone rather than in person. The Agave room abuts an alley which is next to the Pink Pelican motel. The new BellaLuca restaurant is less than a half a block away and people walk down the alley, right outside your bedroom window, to the Pink Pelican hot springs after dinner. The Sunflower room is two doors down and if there's a family there, expect to hear them cavorting in the outdoor hot tub until late. I don't know what I was expecting, maybe something along the lines of the Canyons Lodge in Kanab UT or something of that sort. I know this place has been listed under "Bed and Breakfast" in some web searches and has gotten high reviews (or we wouldn't have booked it), but this is not your typical B&B. Breakfast is a bagel sandwich at their adjacent Happy Belly Deli. You get a "coupon" for two bagel sandwiches or $6 off your breakfast. You have to appreciate Nuevo Mexico Americana style - and transport yourself back to much simpler times - where you doa hot springs soak, look at the stars, lay down your head and do it all over again the next day. A lot of value staying here - I would do it all over again - if I could read more

We decided to celebrate our son's birthday here. He loved it! We really enjoyed the in-room hot spring tub. The courtyard is very pretty; nice place to sit out at night and enjoy the evening while sipping on some wine. The room has a charming bohemian, quaint, southwestern feel and style to it. I really liked the location, it was easy to find. There are cute little shops and cafes all around within walking distance. They also allow pets. The manager was very friendly and courteous. I would definitely come back again. Elephant Butte lake (http://elephantbuttelake.net/) is a short drive away, about 20-25 minutes away. read more
