Mom and Dad took me to the Pelham dog park today. The dog park opened in the summer of 2018, and it still seems brand new. It is tucked in the back corner of the bigger park, and I don't think a lot of furry friends know about it yet. The park has two sections, one for small dogs and one for the big dogs. There are several play structures, and benches for the humans. The park is smaller than Remy's and Loch Haven in Hoover, but there is still plenty of room for my friends and I. My mom made a play date for my golden pack (Molly and Archie). We had a blast! We ran, played tug-a-war, keep-away and tag. We loved running through the plastic tunnel and climbing on the wooden structures. I especially liked the a-frame climbing wall. So much fun, but very muddy because of heavy rain this week. Signed, Macey the golden pup

Didn't visit here while I was in town, mistakenly wrote the review for a different park and I can't delete this, so here, free 4 stars.

While…read morevisiting Alabama, my friends and I decided to spend a couple of hours here and ended up hiking about 5-6 miles. There's truly no shortage of trails, and the variety keeps things interesting the entire time. The park definitely offers some challenging uphill climbs--especially for us Florida girls who aren't used to elevation--but we powered through and felt very accomplished. One of my favorite highlights was Rushing Rendezvous; the idea of a suspension bridge tucked up in the treetops always excites me, and this one did not disappoint. Of course, when we saw Trail 5 marked as most difficult, it was a no‑brainer--we had to take it. I really enjoyed reading about the history along the way, especially learning more about the Birmingham Mineral Railroad site. I do wish there had been a bit more signage around some of the remaining structures so we could soak up even more history, but honestly, guessing their original purpose became part of the fun. Hands down, I would absolutely come back to explore more of Red Mountain Park. It's a great mix of challenge, scenery, and history--and well worth the visit.

I'm so happy that I found this historical place. Such a great walking and hiking trail. There's also areas to get your cardio on and to sit, relax, pack lunch/meal to enjoy at the tables along the trail. Perfect for bike rides, bird watching and getting away without getting away. It reminds me of hanging out in someone's backyard, watching everyone's dogs play. They do a good job at offering events for your puppies and even sending you reminders when your vaccinations are expiring! Just make sure you have your vaccination records ready to present when you arrive. First, there's plenty to do for the pups. Offering a variety of obstacles and mini pools for them to cool down in is enough to keep them entertained for a couple of hours. Every time we've been there were lots of dogs, and they have always been super friendly (don't get me wrong, there's always a yapper or two but nothing too serious). If you're nervous about coming due to lots of other dogs, they have staff who is constantly roaming the play areas ensuring any aggressive behaviors get resolved immediately. If watching dogs be goofy isn't enough entertainment for you, they offer plenty of chairs to sit down and enjoy a beer or beverage of choice. Everything is in a can (make sure to use the nifty can cruncher onsite and recycle after) and there's a decent list of options to choose from. They also have a few tv's from every angle if you just can't miss the game.

The steep climbs up and down the mountain were incredibly challenging. At one point, I even slipped and slid down part of the trail but thankfully managed to do so gracefully without hurting myself. Being from Florida, I was definitely not accustomed to the elevation gain I was about to face. There were plenty of moments throughout the hike where I questioned why I signed up for this challenge, but pushing through and ultimately finishing made it all worth it. Having the bragging rights to say I conquered this terrain feels incredibly rewarding. That day, I didn't notice much floral life, and most of the critters seemed to be hiding--likely due to the large number of people participating in the hike. That said, I was still lucky enough to spot a rattlesnake and a black racer, which made the experience even more memorable. There were a few noteworthy areas worth stopping for, including an open area near a dam‑like structure and several peaceful river and creek spots along the route. While the park is absolutely massive and I know there was so much left unexplored, the 23 miles I trekked over 9 hours was more than enough for one day. If I find myself back in the area, I might just dare to return and explore some of the parts of the park I didn't get to see. Truly a beautiful park and an incredible asset for those who live nearby and get to enjoy it regularly.
