I had breakfast here with friends a few days ago. First, the restaurant is beautiful, classy, roofed but open in the front (no worries, Guadalajara has wonderful weather), you're greeted by a gorgeous old carriage, and by staff dressed in traditional charro attire. The menu is extensive, offering a variety of chilaquiles and many other entrees. There are red, green, mole, poblano, and other kinds of chilaquiles from which to choose. I had some with egg, and extra grated cheese and loved it. The ambience is casual but nice. You could go dressed up or casual and fit in. I would have taken more pictures, but I didn't want to be rude to my hosts who invited me. If you like Mexican food and chilaquiles, if you are ever in Guadalajara you need to ensure Los Chilaquiles is on your list of places to go. The service we experienced was first rate. They are located on Avenida Patria in between the Andares Shopping Center and the Plaza Universitaria. There is valet parking.

I asked if they were open and they sprang into action. I ordered paquete #1, which comes with the famed torta ahogada and two tacos plus a drink of your choice, all for 81 pesos. This is a torta shop, so let's start there: this torta was unlike any I'd ever had before. I've eaten a lot of tortas, I've eaten a lot of good tortas. Usually you get big fat bread, avocado, mayo, tomato, etc. Here, the torta is served on more of a mini-baguette, sort of like a lobster roll in the U.S. The minced pork and salsa were all I needed; I didn't have to use any supplementary garnishes. The tacos were fried double-stackers and fine as well, but again--we're here to talk about tortas. It was a great lunch.

Another overhyped place listed on Yelp…read more I doubt this place is the origin of the Torta Ahogada as claimed. Special for 84 pesos consisting of Torta Ahogada and two tacos with a soda or beer. Totra bread was excellent! The crust was crunchy and flavorful with a soft inside. The pork was fairly tender. The "tacos" were nothing but two mini corn tortillas folded in half and deep fried, possibly with a spec of cheese in them. The food was served so fast that he did not even have time to cook it, so I know they were sitting for an extended period of time as they were cold. They broke apart, like saltine crackers. The place was empty and was also full of flies. You get what you pay for.
