Excellent little mom and pop Chinese restaurant. Chicken is white meat - it is some of the best I've had! Delicious! Crab Rangoon is good if you like the strong crab flavor. I wish they had some just cream cheese. The sweet and sour was sweet and tangy, and really good. There were not many choice for kids meal, and no American choices. I was concerned, but we got the sweet and sour chicken and called them nuggets. it worked just fine. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

This place is a hidden bomb, one of the best ever. We fulfilled our craving for Chinese food and landed here by chance. Hostess/server Lyn was most gracious and saw to our every need. Very solid place for a town in Nebraska of 4500-ish people. The female owner has a delightful sense of humor and truly seems to enjoy serving her customers. Food is prepared the right way--my kung pao chicken didn't have a ton of chopped celery in it or other vegetables. It was pretty much chicken, onions, scallion, and peanuts, which it should be. There was also some water chestnuts mixed in--that was slightly disappointing. Egg rolls were hot and crispy and were sided with a delightful sweet and sour sauce. Something that I can't quite put my finger on makes it stand out. The hot mustard was a little thinner than most, but that's not a bad thing. It had kick to it that made it stand out. I dropped $12 on hot and sour soup, egg rolls, and an entree. That's not terrible, considering the limited options in the area. I look forward to stopping in again next time I'm driving back to Iowa. If you're passing through, do yourself a favor and stop. Its right over the bridge in town. read more

Stopped by, we've been craving some chinese food. Reviews looked good, so why not. Welcomed and seated right away by a very nice woman. Prices are great, food is good. A little salty for our taste, but that didn't keep us from eating. Waitress/owner would come by with little jokes. We enjoyed ourselves. The food was... Ok. Although the restaurant is ran by Chinese, the food wasn't authentic at all. I was pretty dissatisfied after eating. The amount of the food wasn't that generous either, and the waitress was constantly asking if I wanted to add anymore food, which was really annoying. Overall, not a great experience. read more

This is the kind of restaurant that you're lucky to find on a cross-country trip. We had rented a room in Paxton, NE, about twenty miles east and quickly realized the only place to eat was a steak restaurant with what seemed to be an impressive or disturbing display of taxidermy's miracles. So, we drove to Ogallala to Peking Chinese Restaurant. Ogallala is a neat little down, definitely reminiscent of smaller villages in the Northeast and a massive rail depot running through the middle. The town has a neat history which increases the charm of the small downtown area. Peking Chinese Restaurant sits over the bridge in the small downtown area. If you call about times, the owner will possibly say "8:30" but the sign says "9:00." I overheard the owner saying later to a customer that they say 8:30 to discourage last minute stragglers from coming in. So don't be one of those. It's not a buffet restaurant, but the menu was extensive without being overwhelming. I had ordered vegetables (awful road trip heart burn) and my partner ordered a happy family. Each was coated with a salty/sour sauce that was pretty satisfying and the dish sizes were big ENOUGH. We left feeling pretty good about the order. The owners are funny. They talk to their customers and you can overhear some good conversations concerning town gossip and local characters. Also, they seemed pretty open to having those same friendly conversations with travelers. Tip: It's close to the border of the Mountain/Central Time Zones but it is in the Mountain Time Zone. It seemed like our phones switched over a little early or something, so we were sort of confused about the time. read more

Driving through Nebraska and needed to find a place for takeout dinner. Decided to try this place and didn't disappoint. Ordered while still on the highway and the food was ready when we got there. The Chinese food was very good for a small town in Nebraska. The only complaint is the hot and sour soup was very salty. We did not dine in so we cannot comment on the service. The place is small and the decor is a bit dated but the owner is very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended if you need to stop along the highway to get some good Chinese food. read more

Fantastic experience! We had been here last year on a road trip to Colorado and loved it so much we planned our trip this year to make another stop here in Ogallala, just for the Chinese! The spring rolls were flaky and perfectly crispy on the outside. The hot, creamy vegetables on the inside tasted delicious with the sweet and sour sauce. The orange chicken was the highlight of the meal. Fresh, tender chunks of chicken breaded with a crispy outside and flavored with spicy and sweet orange sauce. The service was amazing, she kept the hot tea flowing and was a humorous hostess! The chef himself made a trip out to our table to make sure everything was great. After reading the reviews, thought it was worth a shot. Roadtrip across the midwest, thought it was a reasonable option for a dinner stop. Wow - were we ever wrong. Food was almost inedible - and that means EVERYTHING. Soup had a vague flavor of dishsoap, eggrolls were mushy. Poor, grumpy service and horrible communication (wanted to have a modification to an order and if they said, no.....ok....but they didn't and then didn't do what I asked). Seriously, McDonalds would have been a better option. (and in fact, did have to make a McD stop further down the road to make-up for what we could not eat here). I have no idea how the Yelp rating can be what it is. Caveat emptor! read more

My boyfriend and I used to go to the other Chinese restaurant in Ogallala, but one day they were closed so we decided to try out the Peking. We never looked back. We have a few favorites but we always seem to order either the chicken lo mein or the orange chicken. Awesome every time. The orange chicken even has little dried pieces of orange peel that makes the dish truly delicious. Definitely not your generic Chinese restaurant. Ling and her husband Tir have owned this restaurant for 30 years now and they are quite inspiring. Also, as many have said, Ling can usually remember everyone and what they like to order. read more

It's amazing how easily the mouth can tell the difference between food that was freshly prepared from scratch versus prepacked ingredients. This place is fresh - and incredibly flavorful. The decor is unassuming, which is common for Nebraska, but the food is amazing. I will definitely stop back here again when rolling through Ogalalla. read more

Excellent food. The best Kung Po dish we've ever had. The chicken fried rice was in top three. Loved that they had pees and carrots in it! The wait was a bit long for getting drinks/order in and paying at end. That's the reason for the downgrade since we still had a long drive ahead of us! Also the lady and man (owners?) were hilarious. The lady would say things that a sensitive person would probably cry over but I found it refreshing she wasn't afraid to speak her mind and you knew it was all in good fun. I know. I know what you're thinking. I was thinking it too. How can this random place on a tiny town in the Midwest have food as good as everyone says? Well, I went out on a limb and I'm glad I did. It is excellent. A bit about me: I can be a bit of a pain when it comes to food. I'm not picky, but I don't have patience for restaurants that are clearly just being lazy...which is a lot of restaurants. I bounce back and forth between New York and LA for work and I LOVE Chinese food. I can say without hesitation that this restaurant is better than any of the Chinese food I had while I lived in LA. Much better. It's not five stars because I reserve 5 star ratings for mind-blowing life-changing meals but I would stack this food against any takeout Chinese place in New York. Seriously. If you're passing through and hoping for a real meal after days of fast food, as I was, look no further. We had: Egg roll - homemade, I think Wonton Soup - also seemed homemade Kung Po chicken - delicious Steamed chicken with mixed vegetables - my wife was happy with this as well. The positive outcome was that I was able to give my daughters a lesson on how being negative, defensive, back talking and stingy would run them out of business if they ever wanted to start one. We came to fishing in Lake Big Mac from Denver found this restaurant on the way. Hunger for some Chinese food, we did take out, Fried Duck, KungPo Chicken, and Veggie Delux.
