While visiting North Platte, my husband and I stopped at Royal Wok for dinner. We both had combo dinners, which included soup, egg rolls and crab ragoon, fried rice and an entree. We picked sweet and sour pork and pepper steak. Everything we had was delicious and the entrees were freshly prepared with crisp vegetables, not taken from a steam table with limp peppers and onions. Portions were generous, our server was attentive but not hovering, and the price was reasonable. We are so glad we gave this restaurant a try and wish we had a Chinese restaurant this good back home. read more

We ordered almond chicken, chicken with broccoli, crab rangoon, and egg rolls. The chicken in almond chicken was grisly, the chicken in chicken eith briccoli was anemic but the broccoli was great. Probably the worst buffet I've been to. Pros: 1. Restaurant was clean and newer looking. 2. Staff was attentive and friendly. Cons: 1. A quarter of the foods were out. And didn't get refilled. Other customers were commenting on this as well. 2. Food was room temperature and dry. Even the soup wasn't hot. 3. Not a big selection. No salad, no vegetables, only fruit was watermelon and blueberries. 4. Food just didn't taste good. It was bland and not fresh. All in all, would definitely not go back. Decor is dated and horrendous, needs a serious renovation. had a really dirty vibe. Buffet was composed of older hot/cold units that did not keep up with their jobs. The food tasted about as old as the decor, not spoiled, but not fresh either. Did not know that the microwave has superseded the wok as the main tool in Asian restaurants. Service after seating is non-existent. NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

Our family decided to eat here for lunch after some students recommended that we try it out because it is under new ownership. They have changed it to a buffet, and let me just say: it was delicious! It tasted much better than the competition in town. We couldn't believe all the choices for the size of the restaurant. Everything tasted delicious and fresh. The hot and sour soup was the best we've had in a long while. The best part was that our five year old loved it. They had several kid choices (pizza, chicken on a stick, ect.) and a good selection of fruit and desserts. They even had a chocolate fountain and the waitress makes fresh cotton candy for dessert. Bonus points for being under 25 dollars for the three of us I hope they stay busy enough to warrant keeping so many tasty choices on the line. read more

Looking on Google for a Chinese restaurant while on the road turned up Hunan Moon with an amazing 4.3 star review. But the reality was far from such expectations. Not only was there a scarcity of available choices, but it was definitely not up to scratch. The orange chicken/spicy chicken was an inch size piece of meat coated in enough batter to make it look 3x it's size, lending a deceiving appearance beneath the sauce until you bit into it and it was a doughy mess. The greens at the "salad bar" were wilted and discolored. More than half the warming dishes were devoid or food and I saw only 2 dishes actually get refilled in the hour we were there. All in all, 2 stars is a stretch. At least the bathroom is clean. read more

Yelpers - ya really really let me down this time. We actually drove about 40 minutes out of our way to eat here because of the reviews. What a disappointment. The chicken was old, cold and tough. Couldn't even bite into the crab rangoon because it was so hard and old. Many serving options were out. Everything would have maybe tasted good if it was warm. Even the rice and lo mein looked & tasted either overcooked but more likely just old too. My daughter was so confused as to why she couldn't even bite into her chicken skewer and literally gagged when she took a bite of the sweet and sour chicken. Wanted to try this place out heard good things. We were so horribly disappointed. Everything was old, cold and tasted like salt. We asked for fresh crab rangoons and they were horrible. We told our waitress about it and there was no sorry or anything. We even tried the desserts and oh my god it was worse. All hard and dried up, even the ice cream was bad. I went to pay thinking we would get a discount at the very least, but the waitress went and looked at our table( for a tip i guess) and told the cashier full price. I would have left a tip at the time of paying, but after that comment I didn't. Will never return. Horrible place read more

It gets a 2 because for a buffet the food is ok. The place though....1/2 the tables were not cleared and the one she sat me at was not clean (gross) I moved to another table. We ordered delivery. First of all they forgot one of the egg rolls. Second, the pork fried rice arrived with chicken in it. Third, both the "pork" fried rice and General Tso's chicken had a spoiled flavor and the sauce tasted as if it had been sitting in the store bought bottle for months. Great food, great service! We ordered online as we were traveling through North Platte. We didn't realize that we were crossing into the central time zone and would be arriving after hours. They waited for us to arrive and even offered for us to bring our family of 10 into the store to eat. They were so kind and so friendly. The food was delicious. My kids especially loved the Wonton soup and sweet and sour chicken. It is so nice to feel that there are good people everywhere! read more

FINALLY. Eating out in North Platte is a challenge. We have lived everywhere from Nome Alaska to Ft. Lauderdale and this town has been the most disappointing of them all. The Canteen is usually good but you have to eat in to enjoy it. Pal's has good pizza but it's a hassle. I just tried Royal Wok for the first time and it was AWESOME. This is not Hunan Moon. The new owners know what they're doing. I haven't had Moo Shu pork that good in a long time. The crab rangoon is hands down the best in town. The sweet and sour chicken is very meaty, not too greasy, and it has a lot of veggies with it. The egg fried rice had a nice subtle flavor with not much oil. The Hula Beef was tender and also had a nice subtle flavor. I am so happy! We will be back. read more

Okay, in a away it's crazy to give this place five stars, but, on the other hand, it's a very well priced buffet in the middle of a culinary wasteland. If this were L.A. or Chicago, you might give this place two stars, but if you find yourself in North Platte, you can get a perfectly decent meal here and that's not a particularly easy thing to do in this neck of the woods. I don't mean to sound like a food snob, but I also think it's important to rate places according to where they are and what the competition is. Delivery was fast to hotel, driving to wi and exhausted and wanted delivery other than pizza and staff at front desk told me about it. It was yummy and All my kids liked it. Alright. I want to like this place better, I really, really do. When it changed from Hunan Moon to Royal Wok, I was excited, HM was terrible. It got rave reviews the first 3 days they were open. Tried to go eat there on the 4th night for the buffet at 7pm (it started at 5pm) and was turned away. Told they "were running out of food so were closing early". Okay, first week, growing pains. Sure. Had the lunch buffet a week later. It was fine, nothing spectacular like the rave reviews I had heard. It's a small buffet, two lines of hot food and a cold line with mostly terrible desserts. And that standard Chinese buffet "salad" that is only an iceberg lettuce bag with some cabbage/carrots and some french dressing on the side, *sigh. Lol, they also have ice cream. But not a soft serve machine, no, a top, side sliding door cooler (that you can't stop from slamming back at your hand without holding it) with about 3 TUBS you just scoop out yourself. It's the most unsanitary thing you'll deal with, like, ever. The food is okay like I said, but ugh. The pork is the saltiest meat there, stay away from it. The beef always looks like it was boiled and is overly salted as well. The General Tso's is overly sweet with no heat. The crab rangoons were good the first two visits, the last 2, gross. Super dried up filling and chewy, I think they stopped making them fresh. Speaking of my last visit a few days ago, had to find a server to even get water. They were all seated at a table in the dinning room rolling silverware, I don't think the host even bothered to tell any of them (4 of them!) that there was a table(there was only one other table of 4 when we arrived in the whole resturant). A few of the staff kept taking their cell phones out and checking them at their stations and then not washing their hands... It could be great, but it's not. It needs a lot of work. The chef who came from Omaha to "take care of the kitchen" should have just stayed there if this is the subpar fare that is going to be served. *Side note: This review of the food is from three lunch buffet visits and one dinner visit. I will at some point try a take out order and see if a (hopefully) freshly prepared meal is a better value. Fingers crossed on that when the time comes. read more

Probably the worst Chinese food I've ever had in my life. Nothing was good. Rice wasn't cooked everything else had zero flavor and the fried dumplings tasted like soggy play-doh. My 1 year old wouldn't even eat his food so we left and went somewhere else. There was another couple walking in and asked how it was and we told them not to waste there money and they immediately turned around.. so at least we saved someone the horrible experience. read more

Great food hundreds of times better than the other Chinese place across the street. Was greeted by really friendly hostess who during my meal made recommendations and suggestions by what I expressed I liked. They even came around when fresh items were about to be put out to offer while seated at the table. Hostess even went to Buffet and put some items on a plate she thought I would like. When I asked about Hot Mustard sauce expected the bland packet version but this place actually has the real sauce and it is spicy just how I like it and the hostess went and got it for me. Tried Jalapeno Chicken and it was wonderful, Hot and Sour soup is excellent and even have Mac and Cheese and Chicken wings to accommodate the kids. Great Crab Legs and all the Chinese dishes look just like you would get in a restaurant not a buffet. This buffet even has a take out menu with prepared meals and I heard delivery is available during certain hours. Great Service, Great Food and a competitive price makes this my goto place for Chinese in North Platte. Drive by the other buffet and come here if you want real Chinese food. read more

We travel a lot and this was the worst food experience we've had . The place was empty (should have left then) and the food had obviously ( And admittedly by our server) been out for hours. All the appetizer type foods were dried out. I asked for some fresh donuts and server said he didn't think so as they didn't speak English. There were signs to stir the food for heat. And to top it all my husband's fortune cookie was empty. A sign !!! I love good food and trying new places but this is the downside. Really horrible. read more
