I've never been here until my boyfriend took me here and they have so many books to choose from. Their prices aren't bad and the employees are really nice and helpful here. read more

Stopped in here a couple of times now. It has a nice atmosphere and good collection. Had a very interesting action of children's books, including many that you won't find in your typical bookstore. Not a huge selection of other books, but pretty decent. read more

The staff was super helpful in finding the books I needed, and they had all three books I was looking for! Their selection is huge, and I could definitely see myself getting lost around the store. Definitely give it a look when you go by. read more

Nice local bookstore near the campus of UC Berkeley. Great low prices and a good selection of material. If you need any help definitely ask for Lucas. He so kind and willing to help and answer all your questions. read more

A solid used book store but lacking in the depth of selection that Moe's or Half Priced Books have. Anywhere else I would probably give it four stars but I just can't with so much competition nearby. Still, if you are in the neighborhood it is worth a visit. read more

My hands down favorite book store in Berkeley. Seriously. If you have brunch at La Note or Venus and have to wait or you're just waiting for the 51B, this place is amazing. The people at the counter are really nice, and they have a pretty good selection, even (especially?) in the discounted books! (I got Mishkin Macroecon for $1.99!) definitely worth a visit--come with a hunting-for-treasure attitude. read more

I really liked this places mix between library and record store. Seems very small and local and was fun to browse around looking for the perfect find read more

I agree I agree I agree. And their magazine selection has some fun surprises. Especially important now that Cody's on telegraph is sadly no more. read more

They are generous buyers and have a wide selection of rare / hard to find books and magazines. My favorite bookstore in Berkeley.

Great bookstore which seems to have a wide selection of books. I like how I was able to call ahead and have them put a particular book on hold for me. I found the used book I bought to be a bit pricey but I guess I was paying for convenience. The book was cheaper on Amazon but it would have taken too long for it to arrive. I would go back again. read more

I had been meaning to check this place out for a long time and finally did. I liked the manageability of all the sections. No section was so huge as to seem daunting to look at, so it was fairly easy to check everything out. This also means the selection isn't as gigantic as some people like, which is fine with me. I go to Green Apple in SF when I am in one of those marathon book finding sessions. P&P has some fun zines to flip through and everything seems to be reasonably priced except the new arrivals. There was a coffee-table style book in the new section I found hilarious but couldn't bring myself to buy it at the new price. So if you see it up front by the window, be sure to look at "Images That Shouldn't Be Masturbated To." read more

Love this place... great selection and interesting finds... I always love a good book store and I'm glad there's still some like this around! read more

Not really a big bookstore but they have amazing reads. The staff are all really nice and friendly. They also have a section featuring weekly picks from staff. I highly recommend it for readers who want to explore new books. 10% discount for students! read more

A wide selection of Pulitzer Prize winners, art books, and fiction. Their knickknack to book ratio is on point. I took advantage of their clearance on art books (mark downs from $50 to $10) to amp up my coffee table game. Will definitely return! read more

Great bookstore. Employees were a lot of help and I was able to find the book tailored to my interests within minutes.

I love browsing through Pegasus -- they have somewhat of a limited selection, but it's a small used bookstore - what do you expect? I sometimes find books for my English classes at Berkeley here which is definitely a bonus! I've already saved over $10 shopping here! (At Moe's, I've saved over $25 on school books, but overall Pegasus did have cheaper books, but just didn't carry the titles I needed) It's also right down the street from my house, so whenever I go to Shattuck I like to drop in and check out any new happenings. The staff is friendly -- they leave you alone to wander, but will gladly answer any questions. And I like their bookmarks that they slide into the books I'm buying -- nice touch. read more

Decent bookstore. I liked the calendar selection they had. I didn't find the book I was looking for, but I walked out with 3 awesome calendars! read more

I love this bookshop and have spent hours in here avoiding rain and buying Christmas presents..

Trying to support local book stores over online giants- I ordered two books through Pegasus. I could have ordered them with an online giant and had them in three days. I would also have paid a few dollars less with the online giant including shipping. It is now almost two weeks and I still do not have the books i ordered through Pegasus. A call to the store resulted in my being informed I would be called when the books come in. So if you need books in a hurry that they do not have in stock, it may be better to order elsewhere. read more

Love their selection of used book for a reduced price, and have had good experiences selling back a small stack of books three times for store credit. I really like the employee suggestion section, Also the cat is the bomb read more

The cat here is a gigantic grumpy asshole who has scratched me more times than I care to count, but between their amazing magazine selection and my sad feline addiction, you know I'm gonna keep coming back. read more

I know Pegasus from the literary readings Clayton Banes sets up. I was in California and I went two hours out of my way to go to one of these readings, and while there I bought a few poetry books--ones I had been too lazy to order but that stores never carried but that I always wanted and could not find anywhere but that I finally found at Pegasus. Thank you, Clayton Banes, for being the only bookseller in America, just about, that I know of, who actually knows things about contemporary poetry. read more

wonderful flavorful local independent bookseller. one of my faves. not the biggest selection, but probably the most interesting/diverse including a lovely used-books section. they also support local artists, yay. read more

They sell Butt Magazine. That should tell you everything you need to know about this place. And that they have some hot scruffy male action working the registers. read more

i like the 'Streetlight Records' type layout of this place. but the stuffiness and lack of air conditioning killed it for me. i had to find another place to do my book shopping at. maybe the air conditioning was on the fritz the day i came in. at least they had a nice selection of Neil Gaiman books (new and used) and random crap to buy. read more

This place has a very homey vibe too it, and it's really quiet. I pass by almost every day, been here only once though. The only time I been here, I was really surprised to some grey really fat cat come up to me. It started meowing like it was mad at me. I asked it what do you want, then I walked off and it later came back and sat down and meowed again all angrily. Lol it was adorable! I had a shirt with two dogs on it, maybe that's why. Anyways they have some good books on sale! Adorable cards & notebooks up in front. read more

great poetry section. great readings. good kid section. and, man, the magazines. i could spend all day and all my money at pegasus. if they dont have what i want, well, i just ask. they can either order it, or tell me where to get it. yeah! read more

Lovely bookstore with huge sunny windows and that too-cool-for-school alt-dot-berkeley feel. Good selection, masses of used books, and a giant sleepy tabby cat. read more

Every had the opportunity to walk inside your conscious? It would probably freak you out, right? Now you know how I felt when I wandered in one night after a great meal at Venus. It started off innocently enough, my friends and I were walking past and a book on my want list happened to catch my eye, and then another, and then my whole personal library was on display to the patrons of Berkeley. I finally turned and walked inside after much literary teasing. As I entered the store music from my personal MP3 collection began to play (I believe it was M83) and I decided to walk every inch of the store to see what I could find, and low and behold, more books I desired and subjects I've always wanted to study. I was hardly up the steps when I informed my friend that I may pass out from walking around inside my head... I think she was a little more than concerned. I grabbed a copy of the "The Yiddish Policemen's Union" (one of my wanted) and began browsing through the language section, and found a Japanese Kanji dictionary for $6. My heart skipped and jumped - ah the joys of a nerd! I was very satisfied with myself and with the store that embodied my inner most desires and likes. Pegasus is a definite favorite (otherwise I would hate myself, right?) and I suggest anyone who wants a hideaway with books to take shelter here. read more

Went for a after-Saturday-brunch browse around. Would have love to have stayed and shopped but it was so cold in there it drove us out. Warm it up Pendragon! read more

I love this place, I really do. Their fiction section is great and the prices are reasonable. HOWEVER, the sci fi section is right next to the litter box for the store cat and it reeks. The section is unshoppable and it always makes me feel like reader equivalent of a red headed step child. So definitely come here but shop sci fi at your own risk. read more

This place is great! I love the store cat and the quirkiness of the whole store. They have a selection of zines and other uncommon magazines. They also have used and new books and have great recommendations on display. I always end up leaving with a great book! I have also sold used books to them and they pay way better than half price books. read more

My favorite bookstore in the East Bay! I originally started stopping in here to browse the magazines, but it's their used books that kept me coming back. I've found some incredible stuff here, and all super cheap. I also like that they have a good graphic novel section, although that could honestly be expanded somewhat, given how many good comics-style books are coming out these days. They also have some really cute shop cats! read more

I went in 2 weeks after Jan. 1 (calendar blow-out day) in order to sell some used books and get a stamp on my card for having bought calendars. They are so busy on Jan. 1 they tell you to come back another day to get your frequent reader card stamped. The guy at the counter started looking at my books. There were 2 people in line. I mentioned I had my card to be stamped too. He said, "You picked the worst possible time to come in. There's all these people in here and now the phone is ringing." Actually, I was doing the right thing--going in after January 1. Honestly, does he expect me to keep going back again and again until there is no one else in the store? But, not wanting to have any problems, I smiled and said, "It's OK. I can wait a minute." I don't know what he took that to mean. I meant it was OK to answer the phone, obviously. But this guy, who apparently does not have any customer service skills, starts helping the next person behind me. There were 2 other employees in the store, and about that time they came to the counter, but he did not think to ask them to help out. I have worked in many different stores, and it's a golden rule of customer service (as well as common sense) that you don't start helping the next person in line while you leave the first person waiting. That is too much for me, and I am pretty patient. So I said to him, "Aren't you supposed to finish helping the first person before you start helping the next person in line?" He thought about it for a moment, like it had never occurred to him before, then replied "You're criticizing me!" as if I had really hurt his feelings. I said "No, I'm not. I was asking you a question." He said "I'm just gonna stamp your card and then I'm not gonna engage with you anymore." OMG--this is their customer service? If this guy is treating me like this, doubtless he is treating other customers like this too. I told the manager, but he would not do anything about it. He said "He is sorry. He was having a bad day." Bad day? Is that the customer's fault? And "sorry"? Well I am sure he will say "sorry" to his boss. Most people would--it's better than getting in trouble at work. But when the boss is not there, he obviously says whatever he wants. Regardless of how good the books in this store may be, if their customer service is that lousy, this store only gets 1 star. read more
