This is a nice and relatively clean, mostly used bookstore to browse through, and I'm all for supporting your local used bookstore. However, when I came in last week, I picked up book after book, and all the used book prices were exactly the same as the listed price for a new book. These are also relatively common books, not rare or special editions - not to mention, the condition was far from new. Considering that a lot of books are traded in for a substantially lower value, this doesn't seem like a very customer-friendly business practice. read more

There is a great selection of books within the area and you can establish a book exchange account. The employees are knowledgeable about wide range of books and if they don't know specifically about the topic, they're able to problem solve around it so that you can get your question answered. This bookstore is one of the many reasons why I love West Seattle. Fair Warning there's not a lot of space in the store so if you're expecting to relax and read that might not be feasible. This is our home away from home. We love wandering this bookstore pretty much weekly. I love the vibe of a used bookstore. It is rare that I can't find something I want- even new books. But I am always happiest when I find used book. If they don't have it on the shelves they are always happy to order a copy. And they have a great program to bring in any books you're done with and exchange them for store credit. When in West Seattle, I always hit up Pegasus. I'm a cookbook addict, so I'm always purchasing them. I have way too many. I came to Pegasus a few weeks ago to exchange some of my cookbooks. What I like is that, either way, you will be able to get rid of your books. I had one book that they didn't need, but they offered to donate it for me and I accepted. The store is larger than it look, as it expands towards the back. There are lots of categories and I always find some gems in here. The staff a great and really knowledgeable about books and their selection. There are many books that are here that will cost your more on Amazon. You can get them for a little less with minimal damage. There are even some books that can't be found online available there. I got a cookbook from 1986 that is in amazing condition. Best used and new bookstore I've ever visited! Pegasus is where I go anytime I'm moving on to my next read. No more online or big box book shopping for this household :) They also have the most reasonable and affordable trade-in programs! It actually encourages folks to buy used. The staff are incredible! They know books well -- ask for suggestions! You will not be disappointed. Their location is not convenient for me, but the 25 minute drive is worth it, every time. Four stars for the cool $3 section outside. A lot of the books were in pretty good condition and I bought a book about Marie Antoinette. The inside book prices seemed more expensive. They were frequently in the $6-$10 range which to me is a little bit expensive for used books, especially used books that were of varying quality. I guess the $6-$10 is more like the "half price books" model. They did have nicely curated sections though and they were fun to browse. read more

Local new and used bookshop with West Seattle history, color, and vibe. It has been owned by local folks over a couple generations. Full of light and the smell of books. If a book is popular or an author is popular or someone is/has made a TV show, they are on it and not only have the book, but also others by the same writer. Someday when I am a famous author with JK Rawling-level fame and money, this is the shop where I will host my 1st book signing. The staff is very friendly, bookish, and the right kind of nerdy. Shelves full of fiction and non-fiction with good sized travel, religion, and adventure sections as well. They take used books and give you credit which you can use on the purchase of the used stock. I have like $400 in credit, so they are fair with the prices when buying and selling. Shop here before going to the big box store or online, then wander down to Easy Street for a great coffee and some music. read more

Great deal, great selection, great staff! You can't ask for anymore than that. Deal: The buyback program truly makes books a steal. Yes, I may be spending $8 on a book, but with the buyback it is really only $4! Plus, they have cheap $3 books outside! Selection: I am a chick lit fan and they had TONS of options. I have loved this store for years and I would be a mess without them during COVID. They have an excellent selection and will put you on a waiting list for a used copy if they don't have one in stock. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We've gotten amazing and unique books that we'll keep on our shelves forever as well as some books that are good for 1 read and then trade in. This store is a gem in the Junction (along with East Street a couple doors down). Check it out. You won't regret it. Pegasus Book Exchange is a great little shop of affordable new and used books in West Seattle. The staff was very friendly, and the cashier was genuinely happy for my friend because she got a kick out of buying a jumbo deck of cards there. Though the store was fairly small, it makes up in size with it's charm and good prices. I left a bit of my heart in Strand bookstore (NYC) but was SO happy to find this *amazing* neighborhood bookstore. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff and an incredible selection. They have a fair selection of the most popular new titles and an extensive used section with great prices. My kiddo loves scouring for Fairy Magic series, Star Wars books, and graphic novels. I've found signed and rare copies of books I've been hunting for as well. Best part is you can drop off your used books for store credit. I was wandering down the Junction on my way to pick up food from a restaurant when I happened by this little shop. Being a bookworm, I couldn't resist a drop in. I was quite impressed with the size and organization of the store's stock despite it being such a little shop. The guys working there were very nice and conversational when it came time to check out. Compared to some other used bookstores in the seattle area, their used books were very reasonably priced. And I found an old edition of a book I've been seeking for a long time! Looked up all the books I was about to purchase & found that almost all were MUCH less expensive (brand new) online. I understand you're a 'privately owned establishment & can't compete with chains' as you say... However, when a parent comes in for children's books & asks if you do price matches, you shouldn't look at them & speak to them like that's the dumbest thing you've ever heard. It's extremely rude! Overall, outrageously expensive books, used or new, & a female employee today who was on a seattlite level of book snob that I clearly wasn't good enough for. I spent like $30 for 3 small kids books (so I didn't leave with nothing after spending so much time in your shop) & am already regretting supporting your business there... read more

I can almost guarantee it will take me more time to write this review than that spent during my visit today. Whenever someone makes this claim it usually means they despised the place and stormed out of the door faster than a FOX news reporter can say, "Swine flu." But not today, dammit. After unsuccessfully looking through a total of five different used book stores for one particular novel, I stumbled into this location hoping for the best. What follows is a time frame chronicling my visit: ~ 4.37 seconds - Walk through front door. ~ 9.22 seconds - Greeted by nice gentleman who asks, "May I help you find something?" ~ 11.35 seconds - "Yeah, I'm looking for Cat's Cradle by Kurt V-something or other..." ~ 22.19 seconds - "Of course! This way..." as he leads me to the last copy available. ~ 41.93 seconds - Walk back to the counter, rings me up, and I'm on my way. Yup. 89.06 seconds and I was out the door a satisfied customer. I'll most certainly be back when I have a good hour or two to peruse the rest of their selection. read more

I spent a good hour wandering around digging through the used selection and being really impressed by how great a selection they have. I haunt used book stores almost as much as I haunt coffee houses, so it's no small thing when I say Pegasus Book Exchange is my favorite used book store in the history of ever. Their selection is HUGE (and well-organized, well-labeled, and all good quality). The isles are clutter-free and the lighting is good, which is a rarity in used book stores. Plus, they always have really cheap books displayed outside (on tables and in crates), and I've been known to purchase a tower of books for $10. Their exchange program took some getting used to- basically, they value your used book and keep that number on file. When you purchase a book from them, they only charge you half of the marked price (as long as you have that amount on file). Given that the majority of their books for sale are in great quality, this seems fair to me. Also, the folks who work here are wonderful. They're so helpful, and eager to please. They pretty much have the store memorized, and will look it up if they aren't sure. They sell a few gifties (like adorable book-passage earrings and necklaces), and advertise community events. And their selection is regularly shifted out and around, so there's always a bunch of new things to find. read more

Lots of variety and categories. Also a wide variety of prices. There are some books in very nice condition, and are priced accordingly, but are definitely worth it. Favorite bookstore in WS! Emma and Eric are the dream team of this store, they always have such amazing recommendations, and I have found many of my favorite books through them. This bookstore has pretty much everything, and have a nice teen section in the back. It's the type of bookstore to browse on a rainy day with a Chai Tea Latte in hand. Only complaint about this place is the art book section is very limited, but its not the bookstores fault. Always a pleasant experience walking into Pegasus Book Exchange. P.S. I was in the junction with my son looking for things for a project for him, was like "I just want to check in here and see if they have any of the ....series books" this series goes back to mid 80s and is still getting new volumes...I needed about 10 to complete my collection. The man at the front asked if he could help, I mentioned author, he took me right back and I found 5 of the 10 I am missing and paid a few dollars less for great condition books that I could have for who-knows-what-condition books online. This is a great little used book store, and conveniently located in West Seattle's Alaska Junction. The owner is friendly and carries quite a respectably varied selection of used books. Everything here is priced well, and the aisles are roomy so you don't feel crammed in. They always have a table of books outside in nice weather so people can browse as they stroll by as well. I love this store! I could get lost in here forever. I am very much into reading actual books and not just electronic reading material. There is something special about the smell, turning the page, and placing my bookmark. I have found the coolest books here, things I can't even google. They take all of my books too. I love the idea that I get to share my old loved books with the work. It is fun to see other peoples' notes and such in the books. I love when books are inscribed to one another. How precious. Not all old books, but lots of recent ones too. The staff is always very nice and helpful. If they don't have what I want they always offer to help me locate the gem I am seeking. Pegasus has some new and many fairly new and older books. They have a great collection of classic sci-fi, and when i am in the mood for Theodore Sturgeon or similar, its where i always go. Its a great place to go because there are so many other things to do in the area. Also, when i took a friends books in i did not want to take credit for them, and they have a teachers account as well - if you are so inclined you can put your credit on that to give kids a better chance of getting books. I walked into Pegasus on the phone with my bank (an automated service) when I stopped to look at the front table and a gentleman at the desk said hi. I turned around and smiled, and said hi back. He looked unamused and said, "if you're going to be on the phone much longer I'd have to ask you to step outside." First of all, I'd literally been in the store 10-15 seconds and hadn't said a word except for "Hi" to him. Secondly, there was nobody in the store except the couple that walked in right in front of me. I then asked him asked him, are you saying I can't be on my phone in here? He said no. I looked around and saw ZERO signs that said no cell phones were allowed. I was so baffled that I just walked out. I can't help but feel he was only saying this because I'm a person of color. I just felt like he didn't want me in there, and I had literally walked a mile from my house JUST to go to this store with intentions of getting a new book to read on my day off.
