When in West Seattle, I always hit up Pegasus. I'm a cookbook addict, so I'm always purchasing them. I have way too many. I came to Pegasus a few weeks ago to exchange some of my cookbooks. What I like is that, either way, you will be able to get rid of your books. I had one book that they didn't need, but they offered to donate it for me and I accepted. The store is larger than it look, as it expands towards the back. There are lots of categories and I always find some gems in here. The staff a great and really knowledgeable about books and their selection. There are many books that are here that will cost your more on Amazon. You can get them for a little less with minimal damage. There are even some books that can't be found online available there. I got a cookbook from 1986 that is in amazing condition. Pegasus is a great find!

This place rocks! And their system for ordering books during the pandemic works well. Down with Amazon, Up With Local!!

How much do they payback in credit for hardbacks in perfectly new conditions?

We offer 50% of what we would sell any given book for in store credit, this store credit can be used to cover 50% of the cost of used books you purchase from us or 20% of new book costs. So, if we value a used book that was once $30 at $15, you'd…

Apparently they have a thing where you can bring back books for store credit (as if I would part with my books).

He also steered me into the directions of books that were absolutely hysterical. From "The Gas That We Pass", to "Everybody Poops", to perhaps my all-time favorite of "All My Friends Are Dead." I paid $27 more for the fantastic customer service that I received from the owner much more than the actual contents of the book that I purchased. Certainly one of Pike Place Market's vendor staples that I will absolutely return to on my next visit.

Not many will share their favorite poems with you from memory! When a friend and I first walked in, we remarked on a Shel Silverstein display, and the owner told us the story of the author's last published book. We quoted some of our favorite pieces, and he gave suggestions for new reads. Despite knowing I was going to walk around for the rest of the day, I bought a book, because I wanted to support this business and I trusted the recommendation. The atmosphere is cozy and friendly. They have an amazing selection of used paperback fiction and the pricing is great. Inventory balances old and new, classic and under-appreciated works. A must-visit!

They have been at this current corner spot at 1st and S Jackson since February 2021. This bibliophile clearly has been very late to the party! I stopped in during Independent Booksellers Day (4/25/26) and it was packed full of people. Warmly acknowledged upon entering and later when departing. I briefly browsed the shelves. There's a decent selection, as well as, other merch available for purchase. What really caught my attention were the high curved ceilings. It gave a bright, airy feeling despite feeling a bit cramped with the current capacity onsite. My previous indie booksellers in Pioneer Square were Elliott Bay Book Store (moved to Capitol Hill) and the treasure trove owned by the late David Ishii. It was good to be reacquainted again with Arundel Books, a mainstay in Seattle since 1995.

They have an awesome section dedicated to Seattle-specific books, including some really unique titles I hadn't come across before. At the time of purchase, I specifically asked about the return policy and was told that returning books would be "no problem" as long as they remained unopened in their original plastic wrapping. When I later returned to exchange or return three of the books 10 days later, I was told that I could not do so because I did not have my receipt. This requirement was never mentioned when I asked about returns. As a longtime member, my purchase is documented through my membership account, so it is disappointing that this record could not be used to verify the transaction. I find this level of customer service unacceptable. If a receipt is required for returns, customers should be clearly informed of that at the time of purchase, especially when they specifically ask about the return policy.

Studio Ghibli merch area right upon entering the shop, of course, of course. Decent selection of pens (I got a couple). The second level is dedicated to English-translated manga books as well as anime/video game art books and knick-knacks (sorta all in random assortment.....gotta do some thorough browsing). Since it is a small shop, the aisles are a little cramped. Kinda stuffy too, especially on the second level. Polite staff!
