I have found the coffee shop I didn't know I was looking for…read more My wife told me I needed to check out Weird Brothers Coffee because, as she put it, "You're a huge Star Wars nerd. You're going to love this place." She knows me well. Walking into Weird Brothers feels a little like stumbling into the cantina after taking a wrong turn through Mos Eisley. The place is loaded with Star Wars, Doctor Who, Harry Potter, and Nightmare Before Christmas memorabilia. As a longtime Star Wars fan and hardcore comic collector, I immediately went into "Okay, let's see what they have" mode. And that's before even getting to the coffee. Weird Brothers roasts their own beans and has a bunch of sci-fi-themed blends. The names alone had me reaching for my wallet. I'm the kind of person who will buy a comic because it says "First Appearance" on the bag, so naturally I'm susceptible to coffee with a geeky name. They even have a special blend for the CrossFit gym next door, which I thought was a pretty cool touch. Nothing says community partnership quite like supplying caffeine to people voluntarily throwing heavy objects around at 6 a.m. Supporting your neighboring businesses? +5 reputation points. Now, about the food... Come here for the coffee. When we visited, they were completely out of the breakfast sandwiches. The remaining options were quiches, so we grabbed the ham & cheese and spinach. Unfortunately, they weren't freshly made and were simply reheated. They were perfectly edible, but definitely more "side quest" than "main storyline." The Americano, however, was good. That's what brought me back to the primary mission: coffee and geeky stuff. I definitely want to return and pick up a few bags of their beans. At this point, I'm basically looking at the coffee menu the same way I look at a wall of long boxes at a comic shop: "I don't need all of these... but I should probably check every single one just in case there's a key." Four stars for the coffee, atmosphere, in-house roasting, and ridiculous amount of geek cred. The food kept this from going to five stars, but I'll absolutely be back. Now excuse me while I go investigate these coffee blends like I'm hunting for a first appearance of Boba Fett in a stack of back issues. May the roast be with you.

The staff are so friendly and attentive. They are pretty fast about getting your order out as well. The Atmosphere: Nice and small coffee shop. Not a lot of seating inside, but the vibes here are very nice. Feels very much like a "local iykyk" kind of spot. Overall, a 5/5. One definitely recommend trying Weird Brothers. Though but a thimble in measure, its body was stout, its bitterness noble, and its finish lingered upon mine tongue as though a monk had whispered dark secrets into mine ear. A draught fit for kings, crusaders, and those burdened with collecting the kingdom's taxes. Thereafter came the humble medium drip coffee, a beverage far gentler in temperament. Verily, it possessed a smoothness most uncommon, lacking the scorched misery oft found in lesser taverns. Notes of roasted earth and faint sweetness did reveal themselves with each sip, as though the beans had been blessed by the Archbishop himself. It warmed both hand and spirit, making even the dreariest morn seem worthy of song. Thus do I proclaim The Blend Coffee Bar to be a house of uncommon mastery. Should thou seek potions brewed with care rather than haste, cast aside thy allegiance to lesser coffee merchants and make pilgrimage henceforth. I bestow upon this establishment five chalices out of five!

Omelets are good, breakfast in general is good, and there are lots of options on the menu for lunch as well. Now, the largest disadvantage here is the value. The menu items are at a minimum $1 more per item than they should be. The specials offered at lunch, aren't all the special in price or taste. I can't help but think that the cafe would be doing far better than it is IF it catered to those in the building by offering good food at GOOD (see: "decent") prices. You cannot place an order without spending $10-$11. And that's for a modest wrap, chips or fries, and a drink. You get better food and more of it at Chipotle or any number of lunch restaurants in the local area. Even the coffee, which is above average, is about the price you'd pay at Starbucks...hence all the people walking into the lobby in the morning with...you guessed it....cups of Starbucks' coffee instead of paying this cafe a visit. Taste is obviously important. I'm afraid this place falls short there as well. I've been given my fair share of old, cold french fries on occasion. I guess I didn't show up at the right time in order to deserve "fresh" (see: "Warm") fries. Anyway, it's not all bad. But there is plenty of room for improvement.
