For the past 6 years, I have personally trusted Jim and Sherry to manage my property here in San Diego. Over that time, they have gone above and beyond protecting me as the owner, and also educating me on how I can be a better landlord for my tenants. The tenants that they placed were always quality individuals and/or families and they took care of the place as their own. I know this because when they moved out, Jim had a detailed checklist of how things were before and after move out. Since there was never any major damage the tenants were happy to get back their security deposits, and I was happy to have a simple & cost-effective transition to the next tenant. Jim also would give me educated recommendations on where to price the property, and always kept my input regardless. As such, we were able to price the property competitively for both the tenant and me. Furthermore, payments came in automated with ACH and I received electronic statements each month. The door lock on my apartment failed and I was locked out of my apartment at 8pm on a Saturday. I emailed John from Peerless and he called right away and had a locksmith at my apartment within an hour. John has always been very responsive with any issues. read more

Worst property management company in the world. they cheated me out of my deposit. when I moved out they walked the property and said everything looked great, then they smiled and sent me a check for $3 on a $2,500 deposit yes I said three dollars on 2500 dollars. they cheated me they will cheat you, beware. if a sign says peerless property management keep on driving they will cheat you. One other thing, we found someone to move into the property after we left. within 1 week he had new tenants that we had found, he didn't even have to advertise. we did all the work for him. read more

Oh, where to begin? Jim was generally quick to respond, however, a bit of a fibber. Upon visiting a home, we told him our credit score range and he said "should be fine". We got denied based on our credit score, he told us they have a threshold and we didn't meet it. That's fine, however, we told him our scores and he still let us pay to apply though he knew we would get denied. Upon rejection, I requested a copy of my credit report as the average he told us we had was far below what either of us show on our credit karma apps (I know that is not 100% either, but it's fairly close). How could our credit average be 25 points below the lowest of two scores? I was then told that I must MAIL a letter requesting my credit inquiry to the reporting agency. Tenants, go elsewhere. I am inclined to side with many of the previous yelpers, in that this company just wants to collect as many application fees as possible. read more

The professionalism of this company can be summed up in one text message. I called on a Thursday afternoon about a home and it was available to view the next day. I made the appointment and went to the property as scheduled only to receive a text message, not a phone call, stated "4 PM appointment at (deleted address) has been canceled. It's been rented. Thank you." I felt a phone call and voicemail had I not answered would've been much more professional. What if the phone number I had given was a land line or a work line. To assume it was a cellphone and I would receive that message wasn't smart. Then to text in the first place was rude and a waste of my time in driving to the property. Overall I'm just stunned that I was notified in that way and my time was wasted. I'm sure they're a fairly decent company but this particular instance was off putting. read more

For the past 3 years, my wife and I were tenants of a property managed by Peerless. Our experience was positive from the beginning with Sherry showing us the property and doing the lease signing. I'd like to think we are pretty low maintenance tenants but any time we had any issues, which were few and far between and minor, Jim was responsive and had a service company and/or handyman out to rectify the situation ASAP. When it came to getting my security deposit back, they were very fair and reasonable with the portion that was returned. Monies withheld were warranted for minor damage that we were knowingly responsible for so I have no problem with that whatsoever. Peerless provided expedient service when we needed them and they do expect the same in return. You pay your rent on time, no problems. You take care of the place, no problems. You keep them in the loop with any issues, no problems. You move out of the property and leave it in a similar condition to when you moved in, no problems. If you want to work with a good property management company, you should be a good tenant. It's a two way street. read more

Now, I'm not normally one to write negative reviews...and rarely write reviews for that matter. Normally, I put my trust to the universe and allow her to handle the Karma, that is life. BUT, in this case, I believe it's the principle of the matter. We had our hearts set on a rental home this past week and we were told by John Collins after the showing of this home that we would not be able to turn in our applications or application money until their office opened at 9am Monday morning. We got there at approx. 9:15am Monday morning- in hopes of being the first applicants for our new home! However, our hopes and dreams for the new home we wanted to raise our children in, were soon dissipated when John Collins informed us that an applicant "snuck their application in to their mailbox" after business hours and he chose to run their information first. Whether this is the truth or not, we will never know. Whether this is just or not-we will also never know. The one thing I do know- my heart sits uneasy when it comes to this businesses principles, customer care/satisfaction, communication skills, and basic legality. I truly hope any person reading this in hopes of making their own home dreams come true, can see that things are not always as they seem and that this company is very great at putting on airs. I truly hope my family finds the best home for us- and I hope you do too. And please trust me when I say, this business will not be the best advocate for either of us. read more

I utilized this company to handle the rental of my property. They were fine as far as the rental period, but as soon as I stopped having them rent the place, they were very unwilling to make a decent effort to return the keys. They were "too busy" to do it, and "didn't have the time" to go to the Post office to mail the keys in a mail-able envelope. After expressing my frustration, when already driving out there to pick up the keys (5 days after I stopped renting) someone else still had the keys in their possession. I was treated with an "oh well" approach to returning my keys, and told It would be another 5+ days before they would be able drop them off. Really?! Is this the best they can do for a client? I'll be sure to never have them manage any of my properties again. read more

I am a prospective tenant currently searching for a property to rent. While looking online I found a nice listing with John Collins as the listing agent for Peerless Properties and called his listed number right away leaving a message. I did not receive a return phone call so I called again the next day and left another message. Again, no call back. I looked at the listing again and called the main number for Peerless Property. The receptionist answered and I explained that I was interested in a listing but the agent wasn't returning my calls. She said in a rude tone, "Well, I don't even know which listing you are talking about". No professionalism whatsoever. And her tone of voice and curt shortness really caught me off-guard. I gave her the listing info and she told me the listing would let me know everything about the townhome that I would need to know. I told her I wanted to find out if it was rented out and speak to the agent listed because he wasn't returning my phone calls. She placed me on hold and transferred me to John Collins who proceeded to tell me that the reason he didn't return my phone call was because they just had an open house with about 30 applications so they were processing those before returning any phone calls. I then asked him why he didn't just return my phone call to let me know that simple information? He said that's just the way things go and they leave the listing up until an application has been approved. I said I understood and then he started talking over me as I was trying to let him know that his receptionist wasn't very professional so that he might approach her about speaking to potential renters in a more polite manner. Basically got 4 words in and he hung up on me. WOW.....really professional. In NO way was I rude to him I just was a little frustrated and felt like I was given the cold shoulder. I have great credit and great income and just sold my house and need a nice place to rent for a while. They didn't even offer to speak to me about other listings they had. So in leaving this review I hope to warn people about the lack of professionalism of this company. It looks like the other reviewers have not had good experiences either. The attitude of John Collins was aloof and for an agent to not call someone back when they are wanting more info on a property is just plain lazy. Yelpers please find a rental property company with higher ratings than this one. read more

My Realtor recommended Peerless when I was given a temporary, out-of-town assignment, and I've been thoroughly satisified with the way they've managed my home during my absence. Just days after I left, the roof began leaking. Peerless did a great job of getting it fixed and dried out in time for the first tenants to move in. Living across the country, it's a great relief to know that Peerless is taking care of things back home. Dennis Dillon, my property manager, has been very good about keeping me informed, but mostly I just have to cash the monthly rental check. And I've heard from the tenants that they're very satisfied, too. I have told others who are interested in renting their home, Peerless is the hassle-free way to go. read more

i have never dealt with a company that was more focused on customer service and satisfaction than i have with peerless properties, for the management of my condo. they found me a wonderful tenant, quickly repaired or resolved any issues that arose and communicated quickly and accurately to me. i personally want to thank the peerless team for all their great work!!!!! i highly recommend using peerless properties for all your management needs. read more

To call this nonsense a company is an insult to any organized business, including a lemonade stand. Unfortunately, this nonsense manages the HOA for my condo. They are incompetent, interact with clients in an unprofessional manner, refuses to share information about expenditures, and has a conflict of interest between homeowners and vendors. read more

The management at Peerless was wonderful. We used Peerless for our daughter's wedding. All of the people I had contact with were polite and helpful. They were quick with estimates, phone call returns, and answering every question you could imagine. I called often and made lots of small changes. Everything was accurate. They sent me reminder emails and made phone calls just to make sure I had everything under control since our family was managing most of the wedding prep ourselves. I rent with these folks right now and I caution anyone who's looking at their properties. Turn around now!! I'm in the process of looking for a new place but they won't return calls for rental history! My husband and I found a great place and we might not get it because they won't respond back. Look for a different Place There is so many in San Diego that are good Like Golden Property Management or Re/max You can find a lot of other places in Town Don't Wasted your time with Sherry Or Jim Staron They are not good agent's that represent property's for owners. They Lie to tenants about owners and lie to owners about tenants. There services are all about applications fee's and then they don't even run credit checks or they don't call pasted landlords and they don't call jobs or check on anything that is value to you renting a house or a apt. they wait so long that most people just go somewhere else, that's what they hope happens then they keep all there non- refundable fee's that's how they stay in business . I hope they lose there business , I hope this keeps one more person out of there door. There office is not like other business no sign out side no business cards inside and there always out of the office, if you want to call that a office or a front for applicants to bring there fees to. David managed an apartment complex for our family partnership for over 20 years as well as a rental home for two years--needed repairs were made and rent checks with copies of invoices were sent after the 20th of each month. We agree with other reviewers that response time to our inquiries lagged--David only seems to be available mornings, prefers texting to phone call responses, and emails as little as possible. We experienced some issues related to his limited 'availability' when the apartment complex sold. Our biggest problem arose when we switched property managers on a rental home in preparation for selling it (David was 30 miles away and we needed someone near the house). Despite having collected his management fee for the final month, when the tenant called to report a circuit breaker failure the last week of the month, David's reply was: "I don't have any money left to cover the repair, call the owner." No effort was made to call an electrician to restore power to the house. The last issue to arise was our inability to get the keys from David. The new manager made repeated requests to meet with David, with no success and we requested he return the keys via mail. David never returned our keys or second garage door opener.
