Spend your hard earned money on a better staff that communicates and schedules at a professional level. TLDR: Because of scheduling negligence and poor communication, my project for a deck and patio cover was 3 times delayed and downgraded to just a deck because of administrative issues. Ultimately it was completed almost 3 months after the initial estimate. Our 12x20 deck ended up being $28,000. I put the initial deposit down in mid April for a deck (12x20) and screened in patio cover attaching to my house. It was an expensive project (~$41,000) that we were excited to have done. They estimated completion of the entire project by mid June. After the deposit we heard nothing from them until late May for a quick measurement on our property to verify the drawings. We expected the construction timeline to be very similar to the initial estimate. We heard nothing for weeks. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I reached out at the end of the month for an update. My PM stated they were a few weeks behind-- frustrating that the information wasn't shared, but understandable given the rainy spring. Fast forward a few weeks and yet again I was given the run around. I had many unanswered texts and phone calls. It was the end of July when I finally heard back from them. Turns out the project manager assigned to me dropped the ball. The permits for the initial deck and patio cover were approved, but allowed to expire. On resubmission it was found to be a violation of city ordinance so the patio cover had to be removed from the project. The 3rd round of permitting finally got approved. At this point I was very frustrated with the 1.5 month delay and ready to cancel. They whipped up a new contract quickly and I returned it quickly. Somehow things were still delayed. Finally they began on August 27th. The crew was FANTASTIC. They worked incredibly hard and had it up in 3 work days. I cannot praise them enough, their product was great. They are the only reason this experience was 2 stars instead of 1. At the end of the project I aired my grievances and was told they could not offer any discount despite the issues. I didn't even get an apology until I asked for some sort of reparation. Ultimately there are too many other decking companies that would be easier to work with that I would not recommend working with this one.

Absolutely no pressure, and just amazing service and professionalism throughout. Joe was incredibly patient while we decided on the right time to get started. As construction got underway, the team was respectful of our home and space, being careful to tidy up at the end of each day. They provided meaningful updates throughout, giving us opportunities for input while also offering their professional opinion on matters. When the unexpected would happen (as they do with a project of this size), we were so grateful for a reliable team to lean on. Things were taken care of, and done well. The attention to quality and detail cannot be matched, and that's coming from someone who is particular and picky. Joe and his team have been fantastic partners for this project. We received quotes from a dozen contractors and none of them could stick to our budget. Rick provided some solutions that would help us stay under budget and still have a really nice space. It is now the BEST space in the house. We will be calling on Rick again for our next renovation. We had a one-year-old at the time of renovation and it was in the middle of the Covid 19 Pandemic. Rick and his team were incredible with checking on us and letting us know in advance how our day might be disrupted by the work. They were considerate of sound levels when he was napping and so courteous of our home life, which we were still adjusting to ourselves. They took a lunch break and left each day by 3pm! One day, I saw that they were using my extension cord that they'd taken from my garage without asking! Umm bring your own equipment please or at least ask to borrow. Only one of them could speak broken English. They were scared of my dog so I HAD to be home while they were working. It was ridiculous. Their drywall skills were pathetic and tape and muddying looked like my preschool kids did it. When I would show Rick their shoddy work he would had them correct it but it was over and over and over. Their paint work was poor. Parts of the floor tile had to be removed and replaced. We found The ductwork was left unhooked up and ceiling tiles right over unfinished ductwork. This custom work required a large siding brake and a good amount of skill. Not only was he able to come out in just a few days, he did the work fast, with high quality and for a good price! I searched and talked to a lot of contractors before deciding to go with Skillcrafters. Skillcrafters was not the cheapest bid that I got, but the comfort level I had with Mike and his staff made all the difference in the world, and they were certainly competitive in price. They took care of everything. Plans, permits, etc all without me having to do anything. They started on time, completed everything within the time frame they gave me, and did a phenomenal job including cleaning up after themselves! As soon as it was completed, I was given the lien waivers from both the company and their suppliers BEFORE I wrote the final check, which is a relief. My deck is awesome. It is much better than the others in the neighborhood that were built by the builder or other contractors. Mine looks more solid, is bigger, and in the end just beats my neighbors in overall quality. He has done little to fix this problem. Also when his crew was removing the old flooring in the house they ended cracking one of my windows which I have been trying to get him to fix and just recently he has literally laughed at me as though to be saying to go f*** myself. Also during the floor install he left and sink line running that essentially flooded my basement bathroom and soaked the drywall ceiling, but rather than try to fix it he said that nothing was wrong with it, however now I have black mold bleeding through the paint which I have to cover the expense of out of my pocket because of his incompetence. I wouldn't recommend him to build a doghouse for anybody. His quality of work also leaves little to be desired I could do the fit and finishes better in the amount of time he had to finish this job.
