The staff is always friendly and welcoming when you come in. Our Pedodontist is amazing Dr Kobayashi, hope I spelled that right is such a delightful person. She makes up these fun songs while cleaning and examine our small guy. As parents we have fun. They offer to schedule your next appointment right then. My son goes to Dr. Michelle Kobayashi. She has an excellent reputation and was highly recommended to us by my coworkers and friends. Dr. Kobayashi is very gentle and gives parents great advice on how to best keep their kids teeth cavity free. I took my son to see her before his first birthday and she gave us guidance on brushing his teeth and avoiding frequent snacks. My son isn't afraid of her at all, which makes appointments easy. I was very worried that my kids were going to give me a hard time. But the office is very appealing to kids, my kids didn't want to leave the waiting room. The dental hygienists were patient and gave tips and suggestions. They were very sweet. As well as the front desk were all very sweet. Only 2 thing I thought was a little weird, when I came in they immediately gave me forms that showed what they were charging me, which I guess is not a bad thing, (just surprised me bc what if there was something more that needed to be done). And second, after the hygienists seen my kids, we waited to see the dentist. When he came in he just started talking, but I had to stop him and ask what were we doing bc no one said anything when we went into the room. He explained that my kids just had their cleaning and now he was doing their actual exam. It really wasn't a big deal. Still bringing my daughter every 6 months ... we have tried a few of the Dentist's in house and all have been FANTASTIC ! My daughter is six now and starting to go through losing teeth and getting permanents... today we got her first full set of xrays and all looks a-ok :-) ... no cavities or sign of crooked teeth ! This is the only pedodontic dentist/office I've ever experienced, but my kids & I really like it, so I'd definitely recommend it to anyone! To start, the entire place is spotlessly clean, and it's conveniently located near(& shares a parking lot with) Kahala Mall. From the very beginning, Dr. Teruya & his staff have always been patient, kind & professional, doing their absolute best to calm my older son when he started bawling in the middle of the exam room...for his first three visits, hehe. Given that he was so small, I really appreciated being given a private room for those early visits...and being able to sit with him in my lap during the cleaning & exam (as much as they were able to do) helped a lot too! Luckily we've moved past that, and now my 3-year-old gets his cleaning done with the "big kids," in the back area with multiple stations...but I'm still allowed to stand right next to him. No tears this time (phew!), and he loved talking to the 2 "aunties" who cleaned his teeth. They were very sweet, explained everything they were doing in terms that he could understand, and pointed out (to me) a couple areas where we could brush a little better (inside the back bottom molars...apparently a common problem). After that, he got to pick a "free" toy from the toy chest (highlight of the day, lol!), and then we waited in the small waiting area in back. About 10 minutes later, we were shown to an exam room, and Dr. Teruya came in shortly after. Fortunately, everything went very smoothly, Dr. Teruya was his usual calm, soft-spoken self, and then we were on our way. Everything took about 1 hour, from our actual appointment time. Prior visits had been more like 45 minutes total. As a sidenote, I brought my 1-year old for a separate appointment--he got his own exam room, just like brother did before--and he had no tears whatsoever. So it really just depends on the child. The exam rooms do have a "fun" view of the post office, parking lot, and moderately7 busy road below, which is fascinating for kids...& there's also a small TV in the upper corner, which can be changed or turned off upon request. About the reception area, there are no play tables or toys here--as I've read some other places have--but the giant saltwater aquarium with "Nemo & Dory...AND all of Nemo's friends...AND Nemo's mommy & daddy" is all my kids really need to be entertained! Sometimes they also enjoy looking at the humongous mural on the wall, & naming all of the different animals. In addition, there's a small stack of magazines in the corner, and 2 TV's above the reception desk (which seem to feature a constant stream of Disney cartoons). Luckily, our initial wait has never been more than about 20 minutes, so the aquarium & mural have always been enough to keep them occupied. We've never seen any kids getting rowdy or out of control, and it's basically a very nice environment. After each visit, each kid gets a "goodie bag," which includes a cute Mickey & Minnie toothbrush, equally cute giraffe-shaped floss pick (available on Amazon if you want more!), some toothpaste, and stickers. And another nice thing for me is that we can easily run errands or pick up dinner at the mall afterwards. read more

They do a great job with the kids and I like getting the appointment reminders. There is a nice fish tank as well as a TV in their waiting area. Best of all, while waiting for your child you can actually leave and head over into Kahala Mall and do some shopping or run errands. The location is very convenient. When it came to my teeth, I absolutely tried everything to avoid the dentist. Maybe it was because of all the horrible experiences I had. But THIS PLACE and the people ...my daughter absolutely loved! She is 1 year and 2 months, and have 8 teeth. Dr. Ching recommends she see the dentist when she has 8 teeth so we scheduled an appt with Dr. Michelle Kobayashi. For the waiting area -- there's huge space for her to just walk around back and forth or sit and watch tv. She liked the fishes in the fish tank, and also the mural on the wall. She was over it though after 5 minutes, but that's just her. I was told to get there around 10:15 to fill out papers. By the time we were seen, it was 10:40. Not bad, I totally understand waiting in the doctors office and it usually takes awhile for people to fill out papers. My daughter and I loved the decor in here for the kids -- tissue paper balls hanging from the ceiling and just the pictures on the wall. Perfect for children and lighting was bright which just made me happy!! Stacey asked us questions while my curious little daughter walked all over the place in the room, and touched everything. Stacey was accommodating and understood the curiousness of a little child. Then Dr. Michelle Kobayashi came in! She is SOOOO nice and super informative about what certain things to look for as far as signs of cavities, how to brush, when to brush, when she should snack, etc. She uses pictures and illustrations too! When it came to examining my daughters first teeth, my daughter did awesome I was so surprised!! My daughter usually doesn't like me brushing her teeth, but Stacey and Michelle did an awesome job making her feel comfortable, and opening up her mouth on command! She was able to see everything she needed to see! Then they let her get familiar around all the equipment to get her use to it the next coming visits. Stacey was so amazing giving her cups to play with and letting her experience the equipment. Michelle reassured me and taught me a lot. I know toddlers can change moods and so she may not be this great next time I bring her, but I love their staff and look forward to bringing her there again! read more

I know how important a good experience is with the dentist. Once you have a bad one, you will most likely not go to one again. But when it's a good experience, you will return time and time again. This is why I did a bit of research before taking my son to his first dentist appointment. This was several years ago.......so this review is long over due. It's still 5 star from day one until now (eight years later). The front desk is friendly and greets you as you enter. They have you review that all your information is still current and have you initial. Once done, just sit back and relax in there waiting area with a TV to watch. A fish tank to enjoy and a large mural on the wall to keep you busy. But the most important of all, my son still loves going to the dentist. So that means they are doing a good job taking care of him. This has encourage him to bush his teeth and take care of it so that it will also be a good check up every 6 months. read more

This office is ridiculous, front desk personnel lack customer service etiquette. My 1 year old was seen in June of this year for a 1st time cleaning & was told that his teeth are already good so he didn't need the cleaning. Than I called today to schedule an examination & actual cleaning for this appointment. The front desk lady I spoke with said that quest only approves 2 cleanings per year so they wouldn't schedule the cleaning. I also had HDS which is dental insurance and they didn't bill it either. They did bill my sons quest insurance for a cleaning that WAS NOT DONE, this is FRAUD! Dr. Stephanie Brandli saw my son during this visit examined his teeth & put fluoride varnish. I will NEVER BRING ANY OF MY KIDS TO PEDODONTIC ASSOCIATES EVER AGAIN! read more

I have three children that have been patients here for many years. The dental service is great, Dr. Kobayashi does good work. The 2 star review is for the billing department. I've had this struggle for years. My kids have 3 dental coverages and they can never get the billing correct!! In the past they've overcharged me because they bill only 2 insurances, and when it's realized they simply credit my account the amount that was overcharged! Unacceptable! I just can't understand how they can't figure it out! A couple months ago they refused to treat my kids until I paid the $60 balance that they advised me not to pay until they figured out the correct amount that I am supposed to be charged! I deal with this nonsense because Dr Kobayashi does great work, but someone needs to figure out the process for patients with 3 insurances. I'm sure it can't be that complicated!! read more

This dental company promotes that they will take care of your children and, make sure that they are comfortable the entire time. Let's just say that was not the case with my kids. My daughter had to fill a cavity and the dental assistant numbed her instead of the actual doctor and didn't numb her all the way. My husband grew up with Dr. Moriguchi as his dentist. We were lucky enough to continue on with Dr. Moriguchi as our 3 daughters dentist since they were all babies! While Dr. Moriguchi is out due to medical issues, we have seen Dr. Kobayashi as well as Dr. Tamura. The transition to Dr. Kobayashi was seamless, we have had no issues or interferences in care. Our girls feel comfortable with Dr. Kobayashi. Dr. Tamura was able to fit us in, last minute, to check on, remove, and redo a metal spacer. Ethel is our favorite hygienist, and the reception staff are welcoming. Everyone in the office are so good at keeping us scheduled and informed! We appreciate the text reminders for our upcoming appointments, and the staffs efforts in scheduling all 3 girls together. read more

As a parent, having good health and dental providers for your children is incredibly important. You want to be absolute certain that your child is in good hands especially when they need to have treatments that can be scary from a young child's perspective. Getting cavities filled is scary enough for me as an adult, so you can imagine how my mommy- worry-thoughts were firing as I sent my firstborn (who was scared to even get a simple check up) to get her cavities filled. Well, Dr. Bryan Tamura is a miracle worker because he made my daughter's experience smooth and seamless and there weren't even any tears! When I asked her how it was, she didn't mention a single thing about pain and this is a girl who cries about getting her nails cut :/. My youngest daughter also had cavities but she absolutely LOVES going to the dentist. She gets excited to see "Uncle Bryan", to watch Frozen on the iPad while she gets her fillings, and to get her sticker and toys when she is done. I used to worry whenever my kids would go in for procedures and if my husband was there with them, I would call and text him during and after to make sure our daughter was ok. But now, I don't even think about because I have complete trust and confidence that my children are in the best hands. Dr. Tamura and his assistants are highly skilled in every way and I have no more Mommy-Worry- thoughts! I can't tell you how important and relieving that is to me as a parent! Dr. Tamura is THE BEST! He and his staff are so good with the kids! They all know how to make my kids feel comfortable and Dr. Tamura is great with them even if they are crying, or screaming (yes, my oldest daughter used to be a screamer when she was younger). He's very patient and calm, knows how to make my kids laugh and is good at explaining to them in a child friendly way how to take care of their teeth. He always calls after we've had a filling to make sure my child is ok or to see if I have any questions. He truly provides, professional, quality, caring and thorough care for my children and I can not be more grateful for that. The office itself is also very child friendly with a colorful, bright atmosphere and tvs and iPads for them to watch while waiting or in the chair. I get regular reminders and confirmations prior to my children's appointments and they are very accommodating when we need to reschedule. Location is very convenient with lots of free parking. The hubby and I bring both of our kids to see Dr. Bryan S. Tamura. I can't say enough about this doctor and his staff. They have a great/fun waiting room that's big enough to accommodate a bunch of people. It's very clean and they have a beautiful fish tank that can entertain any antsy child for at least 10 minutes. The staff is so great with children! Sooo patient and understanding! NOW, let me tell you what blew my mind with their staff... My son has show and tell every week at his preschool and every week he's expected to bring it something that starts with the letter of the week. Well, the letter "X" was coming up and I don't own a xylophone, so I asked if the office had any old or discarded x-rays we could have. Not only did they give us an X-ray... they gave us his X-rays and old X-ray films!!! Can you believe that!? Talk about bending over backwards for the client. Well, needless to say, my son came home from school being very proud of all the attention he got and both of my kids are still without cavities! LOL! I am proud to say that this is my first yelp review! I appreciate reading the helpful yelp reviews from others and now feel that it is equally important that I contribute to yelp with my own personal experience. I know many parents who are reading this are like myself. We dedicate so much of ourselves, time, resources and want only the highest best for our children. Having said that, we have experienced this highest best from Dr. Teruya and his professional team. Much visual detail is considered with a zoo wall mural covering the entire wall in the waiting room. There's also a beautiful fish tank to enjoy. The office is always clean and feels good, a reflection on the level of quality of care. All the staff are friendly, professional and accommodating. My daughter has remarked that she likes going to the dentist. My daughter will come home and repeat the instructions from Dr. Teruya of skillfully brushing her teeth and how often! She has had multiple work done by Dr. Teruya successfully. Dr. Teruya is excellent with his patients. He is approachable, professional, skillful, fun and understand the needs of his tiny, precious patients. I am grateful that Dr. Teruya can give me the peace of mind and ease of confidence that I can entrust my child to his care. Both of my daughters, aged 17 and 8 are patients of Dr. Teruya. For the initial visit, both were VERY afraid (near hysterical) and I was a little apprehensive because parents are asked to wait in the waiting room. However, it didn't take more than 2 or 3 visits for them to be perfectly fine with going to the dentist (and my younger one always loves getting a free toothbrush and a pick out of the treasure box). It's been about 14 years since my older daughter's first visit and I have been nothing but satisfied! To be honest, I have some distrust of dentists due to some personal incidents (with 2 different dentists) in which I felt I was overcharged for shoddy work that had to be done over. I've always felt that Dr. Teruya was very clear in explaining what was happening with specific situations with my children's teeth. There were times he chose to monitor a situation (which was resolved when those baby teeth fell out) and other times that he quickly remedied a situation - usually when it involved permanent teeth that have to last another 50-60+ years. Dr. Teruya was highly recommended to me by my friend, himself a dentist, and I have been extremely happy for taking his advice. read more

I am rarely compelled to write a review but Dr. Michelle Kobayashi was just THAT amazing. My six year old daughter had to have a cavity filled. Like any child she HATES shots. Dr. Kobayashi was so good with her. She and her dental assistants put her favorite show on an iPad above her head, explained every instrument to her and what it does and let her feel on her hand what it would feel like. They made her so comfortable. She was so clever showing her the shot with the cap on so she never saw the needle. She still doesn't know she had a shot! They spoke her language. My daughter loved her. I would feel totally comfortable sending her back there alone if I ever had to. She was in excellent hands. They know what they are doing. It's not super close to our place and there are other pediatric dentists nearby but totally worth the drive. I will never take her anywhere else. read more

Love love Dr. Teruya and his staff. I'm a mother of three little girls ages 7, 4 and 2. My oldest daughter who was a micro preemie has been with them since she was one. Just loves going there. Being really sensitive with doctors her whole life I was worried she would give them a hard time especially when she had her first cavity and her first tooth pulled. And they did a great job. Just this pass Monday I had to bring my middle daughter in for cavities and she was worried from when she woke up. She asked if I could be there with her the whole time and so I did. He told us step by step what was going to happen. He talked to my daughter told her how great she was doing and kept her so calm during the whole procedure. The main reason why we chose Pedodontic Associate is because of the good reviews we've read here in Yelp and online but one dentist (Dr. Michelle Chung) was rude to her staff and was rough on my kids. It was my kids' first time in a dental clinic, she was rough and rushing, causing my kids to get scared of her, instead of stopping for awhile and calming down my kids, she told my child "Quiet!" , and she just went on with the cleaning, my poor child cried the whole time and she felt rushed, scared and hurt from the procedure and now more scared of the dentist (traumatized). Dr. Chung was even harsh on her assistant, scolding her infront of us, her assistant was actually nice and showed more compassion to my kids. I expect more empathy, compassion , professionalism and patience from a Pediatric Dentist but this dentist lack those. The establishment is good, it's clean, well organize and it's situated by Kahala Mall. Most of the staff are nice and friendly except for the scheduler, she's kinda grumpy or probably she's just tired. The staff gave my kids some goodie bag filled with stickers, toothbrush, floss and toothpaste which my kids like. I would have given it a high score (5 stars) but because of the dentist that caused a bit of trauma to my kid, I just gonna score it 1 star. I hope she change her attitude and be more understanding to her patients because they're children and with this kind of profession, she should have more control of her emotions and behavior. read more
