When our son was born a few years ago my wife and I didn't know WHO we wanted as our long-term…read morepediatrician, but we knew what KIND of pediatrician we wanted. We wanted a doctor that had the feel of the long-lost small town family doctor like you might think just walked off the set of the Andy Griffith Show or out of a Norman Rockwell painting. One that had enough concern when necessary, but wasn't ordering dozens of tests and causing unnecessary stress for a sore throat or common cold! While I can't give my opinion on the other pediatricians in the practice, as we have never taken our son to anyone besides Dr. John Ellis, I can say that it would be safe to assume that anyone as great as Dr. Ellis would not associate himself with fellow practice members that are below par. I know what you're thinking, "Well, that's great and all, but I want someone who is up-to-date on current medical knowledge and procedures, not someone "old fashioned." Hold your horses there! Dr. Ellis not only has one of the best and most relaxed "bedside" manners of any physician I know (and I know a lot) but he is the former Chief of Pediatrics for Baptist Memorial and a former President of the Memphis & Mid-South Pediatric Society. That is a resume that I can approve of! In a day and age when it seems that a large percentage of newer and younger physicians have become complacent and just throw prescriptions down a patients throat and call it "doctoring", Dr. Ellis is a diamond in the rough. I just hope I'm not condemning myself to long wait times when you all rush to make appointments after reading this! Be well! *I am marking that the office is not "by appointment only" only due to the fact that they do have morning hours several days a week for walk-in. You should, of course, call the office and check as to what days and times the walk-in hours are offered.

Over the years, I have had up and down experiences with Laurelwood. Here are my pros and cons: PROS: Friendly staff Great nurses Docs come highly recommended CONS: Our doctor is lovely but I feel like she's given me very limited options over the years to treat my sons autism and severe ADHD. Talking to other mothers, I felt like there were other options but when I brought them up, she always suggested staying the route. She referred us to a psychiatrist once but that was not a good experience. I once asked her if we could consult with another doctor in the practice because I had seen several articles he and others had written about his expertise with autistic kids. She took offense to my question and said she was the "autism expert" at Laurelwood. I did not like that and considered it to be very unprofessional. If your child is well and has no disabilities, I could see why you think this practice is perfect. However, if your child is sick on a regular basis or has disabilities, I would suggest finding a pediatrician who is open to trying everything possible to help your child.

You have to leave a message and then hope and pray you are right there with your phone when they call you back because if you miss that call you have to call back and yet again leave a message. We interviewed her before our first child was born and immediately felt comfortable with her gentle and considerate nature. She works a reduced, pre-retirement schedule, but we decided to continue seeing her until she retires then trust her recommendation for another doctor at the clinic. This location has a selection of physicians, but you can request to set up appointments with specific ones. Since there are a good number of doctors, scheduling and rescheduling appointments is very convenient; you can even schedule on the day of if needed. For those sudden sicknesses, they have a sick waiting room and also a well patient waiting room for check-ups. We also love the convenient online check-in that can be completed from home. If completed before arrival, you can just quickly check in with the receptionist then head to the waiting room -- no refilling out papers every visit! All the office staff and nurses that we have met have been very helpful and friendly, and the nurses are super fast with shots! If you blink, you'll miss them!

They had a newborn seminar a month before I gave birth and I am glad they did. It was a great introduction to learn about their office and their physicians. The thing that attracted me to them was their professionalism and commitment to being available for their patients. They have extended hours for those who may not be available during the morning hours. You can go on nights and weekends. With that said, I chose Dr. Yani as our pediatrician. At the newborn, seminar his personality was very straightforward, he was knowledgable, and he seemed very patient and kind. I have been taking my baby boy for the past 6 months and I can say he has been all of those things. He is very reassuring, kind, patient, and available. Anytime I call him or text him, he is quick to respond. He does everything in his power to make sure that parents are not making unnecessary visits to the hospital. He has provided my family and I with a peace of mind. Office visits are normally smooth. When we check in, it's not long before we are called to the back. A nurse takes us to our room and get right into checking vitals, milestones, and explaining the process of the visits and the treatment/shots that he will be receiving. Once done, Dr. Yani comes in and check him and discuss any concerns we any concerns we may have. After the visit, we set out next appointment with ease.

I went for my daughter's ear piercing, and instead of handling her with care, she was literally pushing my baby's face into the bed. After all the trauma my baby went through, she still couldn't pierce the ears properly - the holes ended up completely uneven from the markings she herself made. To make matters worse, she just rushed off to the next patient without any concern. I would never recommend this doctor; she truly should not be practicing anymore.
