I was a patient at this office and only very recently left because we moved out of the area. A lot of the doctors and staff are fine, but one recent incident was completely inappropriate and has left me feeling very uncomfortable. During a brief insurance lapse of just a few weeks, when my 2-year-old with asthma began coughing, I reached out for help getting his usual medication -- and the entire experience was unnecessarily cold, bureaucratic, and dismissive. I was told that because I hadn't filled that prescription since April (less than a year ago), we'd need to come back in person, even though it was clearly on record. I was also told there were no refills left, but CVS confirmed there actually was one -- which they refused to transfer from our old pharmacy on Long Island. When I tried to clarify what to do next, the front desk repeatedly talked over me -- even after I calmly said, "I'm still speaking" -- and then hung up. A doctor called back at one point and left a voicemail saying, "Call if you need anything," but when I did, I was told the doctor wouldn't speak with me and that I'd need to wait until Monday for the office manager. It's now Wednesday, and no one has called me back. Most concerningly, I was repeatedly shamed for not taking my son to a local doctor -- even after explaining that we were temporarily uninsured and trying to avoid hundreds of dollars in fees for what should have been a simple refill of a medication already on record, prescribed for a 2-year-old child with asthma. One staff member even accused me of not bringing my son in for months, which was both untrue and completely inappropriate. He is fully up to date on all well visits and vaccines per AAP guidelines -- I simply hadn't needed to bring him in because he hadn't been sick until now. The lack of compassion and communication was deeply disappointing. I'm a concerned mother trying to prevent my toddler's asthma from turning into something serious while waiting a few days for insurance to restart. It shouldn't take this much effort, or meet this much indifference, to get a necessary medication for a young child. Ironically, the same week this happened, the office was still calling and texting me to schedule well visits -- so perhaps their systems, and their approach to patient care, both need some reevaluation. read more

During my pregnancy, I kept on hearing that I have to pick a pediatrician sooner rather than later. This was especially stressful during COVID as I couldn't go and tour the offices. This office was referred to me by a close friend who has two young children, but I didn't want to go to the first office referred to me right off the bat. That is why I placed several calls to other pediatrician offices. This office immediately stood out. And now, even after going for my son's two month wellness check up, I know for sure I made the right decision. Right off the bat, from my initial call, the office manager was extremely informative. She sent me paperwork prior to our first visit and let me know how things would go about after my son was born. I was instantly relieved as they explained what needs shortly after birth. Our first visit (and the others right after, because our son was a bit on the smaller side) were just as informative as my initial phone call. I also had a visit with their lactation specialist who was super cool, easy-going, and very reassuring. She is there every Tuesday, and you could book an appointment just to see her or book an appointment to see her on the same day your child has and appointment. They also have a great protocol put into place for COVID. You wait in your car and once you arrive you text the office to check-in. They text you back with a number for where you can wait in the waiting room. Appointments are very well spaced out and I feel safe visiting each time. They have several doctors at the practice, and we've seen three of them so far and they all have been great. The nurse staff is awesome as well. After today's two month check up I noticed that our nurse recognized our son, which was very refreshing. The office itself is very clean, and fun for children. Each room has a different theme and there's also a huge fish tank in the center of the waiting room, very entertaining for children. Finally, I do have to speak to their telehealth system. A few weeks back we had a question and didn't know if it was serious enough to bring our baby boy in. We set up the app and booked a telehealth appointment and within 30 minutes we saw one of the doctors, virtually. He was empathetic that we were first time parents and reassured us that our baby was OK and we were doing a good job. If I could praise this place more I would. I am super comfortable with my baby being treated here, and look forward to him growing with this office. read more

They have hired the most horrible people as front desk staff. I cannot fathom how can they treat a young mother of 6 months old this way. They are not just rude and incompetent but almost inhumane in the way they treat parents. Am sure business owner will deflect by commenting to call Mary Lou (or whoever current office manager) but are you not embarrassed that for past several years other customers of yours have been raising concerns of treatment by front desk staff?? What have you done so far about it?? They do not pick up phone, call back as they promise, and are incredibly snarky when you ask them to clarify anything. We have hit our limit tolerating your front desks laziness and rudeness and looking for another pediatrician. read more

When I was pregnant me and husband went out and interviewed lots of Pediatricians, and this place was by far the best. The location was the convenient for us, the doctors are friendly and knowledgeable. All the nurses we ever had are super sweet with our kids even when they totally freak out when they have to have a shots. The front desk is polite, prompt and accommodating always. The ability for us to call after hours and have a doctor call us back. The separation of well / sick kids, how clean and kid friendly this place is. We are now on baby #3 and we all love Dr. Goldstein! If you are looking for a Pediatrician this is the place to go, I feel 100% confident and safe bringing my kids here. read more

If you look for the following in a doctor, this might be the place for you! 1) an hour-long wait in a safari-themed room for your doctor to come in 2) a $50 "COVID supplies" surcharge because I guess they use 5 boxes of gloves for every child 3) a front desk staff that, if you actually manage to get them to answer the phone, is extremely rude as if the collective customer is the worst person in America 4) a place that charges you a copay for a well visit (that has no co-payment) so that you have to call their billing department every time and fight them to get a credit This place was moderately okay in 2017 but by 2022, it's absolutely terrible. read more

This place sucks !!!! I've been calling for three days to make an appt! Lucky if they answer and when they do they place you on hold and never come back to answer. WOULD NOT recommend &'I've been coming here since i had my daughter in 2016 and it was NEVER this bad. And by looking at the rest of the reviews I'm not the only who feels this way. I have been bringing my 12 year old daughter to this office since her birth. Despite the very long wait in exam rooms for the doctor (I guess you can't avoid it), we kept coming back. Until recently, Dr Samuel was very attentive and we enjoyed our annual visits. It is now clear that this doctor treats all patients the same, regardless of their health history, immune systems and their parents' knowledge and believe. He will suggest and recommend whatever is preferred by the society, not what's needed for individual patients. It's very disappointing how patient care is deteriorating in this office and I suppose in the entire country. Doctors lean towards more paying procedures, not what's best for the patient. Over the last two years, and especially during the last few months, it has been impossible to receive proper attention at this office. The phones are rarely answered. The receptionist said "we are very busy and I can't have you occupy my line" when I requested to wait on hold for an answer I've been trying to get for the past 2 weeks. She interrupted me when I tried to explain that she's not the only one busy and I've been trying to receive health form that I ordered and paid for 2 weeks ago. After 18 minutes on hold, I gave up and hang up. My daughter's form is due back to school in 3 days, they didn't seem to care. Maybe it's time to find another physician group? read more

Year 13 mom here, and PHA still giving my big littles the best care. The doctors have had an incredible rapport with my teens; the transition from grade school concerns to teen woes has been seamless. The virtual visits and increased availability have been really helpful these last years. Last visit was so pleasant- so many new and young professional faces, all friendly and supportive. I have to give a shoutout to MaryLou, the Office Manager. She was our first introduction to PHA and ever since, she has been the most patient, understanding, and pleasant person in any doctor's office I've ever visited. I've had nice and I've had resourceful, but never both at the same time and this was the first sign that PHA was the right place for our family. So here's the reality ... Are there occasionally your standard front desk folk that might need to simmer down? Of course. That's everywhere, but I've never seen that more than once, which indicates that they don't last long. Does it get hectic? Yes, it can ... It's a group of pediatricians all in one place. Duh. Have we waited 30 minutes or more? ... maybe once in the two+ years we've been going there and even then, we were offered another doctor to see since our chosen pediatrician was running behind. It's a doctor's office. Things happen, including emergencies and over-worried, first-time parents like us with a million questions that occupy the doctors' time. Also the reality ... the front desk staff are among the sweetest and most helpful folks and they adore my kid and that's what matters. ALL of the nurses and medical assistants are the NICEST people you will ever meet with a unique ability to handle small children (and their many moods). The major benefit? You get a variety of excellent care and opinions from a team of professionals that you can switch up. If I know I need to be coddled a little, because I'm feeling like a paranoid parent, I might go see Dr. Samuel or Dr. Goldstein. If I want a no-frills, straight-up answer, I might go see Dr. Read or Dr. Fierstein (who showed us the best baby carrying method ever on our first visit, I might add, and I now show it to every new parent, ever since). And if they're not around, you can still trust that you are getting the very best in care. We look forward to continuing with PHA as our pediatric team and we already recommend them to others and probably will long after our child has grown. read more

We have been a member of PHA since 2011 and when someone asks who is your pediatrician I can't list just one. The reason is, is that they are all family! They treat my 9 year old son with care, patience , and kindness! I am an extremely nervous mommy and the staff explains any sickness or procedure in such a calm and professional manner that eases my worries and gets us through the good and bad. I have been bringing my kids here since they were born (15 year old) & (9 year old) I have never had a problem with getting an appointment for them after work hours, now the latest appointment they have available are no later than 1:00 p.m. I live 30 minutes away I would never be able to make these ridiculous times they have. I use2 love coming here now this place gets on my nerves - this practice absolutely does NOT work with working parents. Very friendly group. I received my covid-19 vaccination here and when I tell you the staff here was so friendly, welcoming and sweet, I mean it. Jackie was the young lady that administered my shots. She was kind, funny and gentle. I was so comfortable with the entire staff we all laughed a lot. You do not laugh at a doctors office that often. I am very unhappy with this office. We have been bringing our daughter here since December 2016, and every experience is unsatisfactory. That being said, before we moved, our pediatrician was phenomenal. That office was also affiliated with Allied. Really, they were the best- Dr Schinder at Beach Pediatrics in Oceanside. I'm going to give them a 5 star review when I'm finished with this one, but I digress. Beach cared about our child and was interested in developing a relationship with us. Here, we are just a number. Nearly every person who answers the phone or works the desk is rude, unfriendly or has an attitude. We asked to interview the doctor or at least meet with them before we signed up with this office, and our request was refused. After 1 year of being with this office, we have yet to meet Dr. Chalsom, who is listed as our daughter's pediatrician. The doctors we have seen, Dr. Reed on a few occasions and Dr. Lippmann, are fine but again, we feel like we are just a number. And to be honest, these drs are the only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1. Yesterday, we waited almost 40 min in the exam room with our 3 year old, because the appointment before us was a half hour late, and they took them first. Do you know how hard it is for a 3 yr old to wait 40 minutes, when she already is experiencing anxiety about the appointment. We are going to switch to an office where our daughter can get the attention she deserves. Shame on you Pediatric Heath Associates for your apathy towards the families you are supposed to take care of. read more

She jokes but when she examines kids, her eyes are very serious and I saw her detailed check. And I love MaryLou, the office staff. I am sorry to report that I wholeheartedly do NOT recommend this office. It is my belief that they treat all patients the same regardless of the details and situation that arises for their patients. Their medical advice is similar to reading a paragraph on WebMD. Unfortunately, Dr. Samuel has demonstrated characteristics that have caused me to lose all of the professional respect I once had for him and the entire office. When a Doctor hides behind "office policy" in deciding a medical decision, its safe to conclude that the so-called doctor lacks either the ability to think for himself in deciding medical decisions or that the doctor is simply not permitted to exercise his own medical judgment. (either alternative is truly pathetic and against all tenants of acceptable medical care) When office policy trumps your child's medical needs it does a huge disservice to the community and patients' he serves. A Physician is supposed to exercise their own judgment and not use the excuse "well, if I did that for your child I would have to do it for everybody." (I was absolutely shocked to hear a doctor use this phrase as I'm used to hearing that type of answer from youth soccer coach who is being asked to give special treatment to a particular child by an annoying parent). Trust me this was not a request for special treatment. I have never felt more like a number with a doctors office in my life than how Dr. Samuel just treated my family. If you do use this office please remember that the Doctors' medical opinions here are mere recycled "office policy" and to take it with a grain of salt. I understand that every office has "office policy" but when that policy in many smart peoples opinions (including Doctor friends of mine) is literally endangering my almost 2 year old child's life then that "office policy" is a major problem. If you want to go to the McDonalds of Pediatricians then this is the place for you. However, if you're after a personalized experience where your children get treated like individuals then I suggest you look elsewhere. read more

This review is long overdue. PHA is a great practice. My kids have been going there since they were born and that's more than a decade ago. Most of their doctors are amazing. They all have such good bedside manners and extremely patient with our kids. One of mine can be apprehensive with needles (flu shots and other vaccines) and these doctors always find a way to put her mind at ease. Our preferred doctor is Dr. Maggie Chalson. She is amazing, sweet, and super smart. Her diagnosis always on spot and provides ingenious plan of care! Dr. Goldstein, Dr. Samuel and Dr. Reed are equally great. There are new doctors coming into the practice and I heard nothing but good things about all of them. We chose this practice because of convenience (very close to home) but most importantly because of the doctors. Never did we ever have a problem getting an appointment. There's always a doctor on call for emergency consult. Although one might consider it to be a big practice, these doctors do get to know your kids and eventually they become almost like your extended family! read more

Some staff is acceptable however, I brought my son in for a regularly wellness visit. One of the doctors (whom I've never seen before) said my 10 month old needed a Hepatitis B 1 shot. She was wrong and I informed her that he had already gotten it when he was first born. She lied and said it wasn't in his records and decided (on her own) to give him the vaccination. I called NYS for his records come to fine out that she lied and didn't attempt to get the information. After that he wasn't feeling well. My thing is DO YOUR RESEARCH. Dr Kerry Frommer Fierstein has been HORRIBLE! She rushes us, is not knowledgable, has a condescending attitude and is just plain rude! She told us my daughter needs vitamins and proscribed chewable ones. We bought them and they are ridiculously big and a choking hazard for an 18 month old! She also alarmed us since we went to a different practice and she said that the baby's head measurements were off! Which was also not true! Also, asked her to fill out some forms for our daycare and she just signed the bottom without even taking the time to read! She was mad she had to do that! She asked us irrelevant questions such as "why not just having a babysitter?" "Why are you talking to her in Spanish, you realize English will be her dominant language?" Seriously???? I hated this place! When i first went there, i thought wow, this looks like a really nice place. But it was HORRIBLE. The Doctor i saw called herself MAGGIE. I think her name is Dr. Margaret Chalson, MD. My son had a little cough and a runny nose. She held my 3 year old down and put a breathing mask on his face. My kid was screaming for his life.. Mommy help me!. HE couldn't breath and it was covering his whole face..She wanted to keep the mask on and hold him down for almost 10 minutes!!! I asked her isn't there anything else you can do.. she said NO! and she wanted me to do this every 4 hours. I also went there for a rash. Not once did she ask to see it, or examine him. We've been using PHA for just about 9 years now.  I have 3 children (ages 9, 7 and 18 months). Often people ask me why I travel 25 minutes for a pediatrician when there are several practices 5 minutes away.  For me there is no questioning it.  The care, respect and comfort I feel at PHA is exceptional.  Open 365 days a years, I've never had a problem getting a sick child seen.  Doctors never rush out of the room and make you feel to busy.  There is something to be said for doctors that take their time in addressing my concerns. Whether it's after hours or 9am, calls get returned in a very reasonable time. In today's world of social media, a Facebook page is another outlet for getting questions answered...whether it's sending a photo or asking about dosage. Online appointments, forms and records are all available online, which makes getting what you need so convenient. read more

To all responsible parents: don't risk your children's lives on them. My Story: The doctor suggested and double confirmed twice about the dosage of motrin to my daughter, later after verification with multiple sources that's 3 times more than she suppose to take. It was only too late since my wife decided to trust the doctor and already gave her the overdosed volume twice. After the incident I call in they still in defensive and still insist that I quote "It is totally fine to give a 24lb infant 5ml of infant motrin". No Apology, no suggestion on what should do next about the overdose, just plain defense and "everything is ok" without even getting the fact correct, staff keeping messing motrin with tylenol, then somehow mess 5ml to 1.875ml, and abruptly hang up phone calls when I was trying to clarify. read more

I had a bad experience with another allied health office and this office was very compassionate and considerate to ameliorate the situation.

After scheduling an appointment online early this morning as a new patient, I went with my sick 16 year old daughter and unfortunately, she was refused. They told me to check back in 2 months to see IF they can take her in as a new patient. Really?! Their website and Yelp pictures look great however, they only cater to existing patients although their website indicated that new patients and walk-ins were accepted. I wasn't asking for an annual physical, vaccine or full medical evaluation. I explained she simply just has a cold and after 2 days of over the counter meds not working, was bringing her in to be seen. Copies of her medical records were in hand. If they can't accommodate a simple checkup, dosent really mater how many pics you have posted on yelp. read more

I moved to Plainview over 6 years ago from Queens. I really loved our pediatrician and was worried about finding anyone as wonderful. I was so very lucky that my kid's pediatrician, Dr Maggie Chalson, moved to PHA about the same time we moved to Plainview! I have never had a bad experience with PHA. All the doctors we've seen have been great, and every nurse in there is sweet, patient and kind to the kids and to the parents. About three and a half years ago I met with Dr. Fierstein because I read that I should "interview" various practices to determine which to use once our first son was born. After speaking with her and touring the office I decided to use them without ever speaking to anyone else. To this day I could not be happier with my decision. I LOVE them! Not only does it give me peace of mind knowing that they are available 24/7 with a doctor on call for emergencies, but they also have a private group on Facebook where patients/guardians can ask non-emergency questions and get a timely response from Dr. Fierstein. They came to LIJ after both my boys were born and were so friendly, helpful and encouraging that it really helped me to relax knowing they were in my corner. Aside from the fact that ALL of the doctors are extremely knowledgable and thorough with fantastic bedside manor, they are also genuinely nice human beings who truly care about their patients. My kids are not scared of the doctor at all.. In fact, my 3 year old likes going! I look forward to our well visits because I learn so much each time. My friends were very jealous when they saw that i receive a print-out each well visit with information about the next week/month. It includes everything from what to feed them (and how) to how to keep them safe. They even have questionnaires to help evaluate whether or not your child is hitting their milestones to help with early intervention if needed. They never rush me and are always so great with my boys and I am truly thankful for that. Every nurse is beyond sweet and the front desk staff are on their game and fun to talk to. I like all of the doctors, but my favorites are Dr. Samuel and Dr. Chalson. I am also a very big fan of Dr. David, Dr. Read and Dr. Fierstein. Where do I begin? I am a mom of three and PHA is an amazing practice! Open 365 days a year.. Kind, caring , knowledgeable staff and doctors! When I was pregnant I had asked my doctor for a referral for a pediatrician and she told me she takes her kids to PHA... That was all I needed to hear. It turns out 2 of my doctors use this practice. In addition, the practice has a non emergency FB group, where you can ask general questions! To me this shows they really care about their patients! My first experience there was when my 3 week old was coughing and it was very emotional ... Dr. Read had checked him out and I was a nervous wreck! Later on that day Dr. Read called me to check in on my son and ME!!! I knew we were in good hands. Dr. Read is like a celebrity in our home. We talk about her often and my kids just adore her. She's always available and I love her down to Earth personality... Very easy to talk to. Amazing doctor! Dr. Maggie stayed late on an eve of a holiday waiting for us to arrive so we would not have to go to an emergency place and was able to diagnose and treat my son for pneumonia! Drs. Samuel and Dr. Goldstein have always given my children excellent care and my kids get a kick out of Dr. Goldstein's great sense of humor. Dr. Firestein was the dr who gave me the best advice on how to get my baby to sleep thru the night and has great bed wetting prevention strategies! Dr.David with his kind ways was able to put staples in my daughters head and made her feel like such a super star she forgot she was hurt! Drs Lippmann and Keschner we have seen on occasion and they have been nothing but wonderful! I have referred many,many people here and all I have heard are rave reviews and awesome feedback. We have been using Pediatric Health Associates since our almost six month old daughter was born. The entire staff is wonderful! They are all so sweet, very knowledgeable, and a pleasure to visit monthly. They have squeezed me in when I needed an appointment a few times, put me at ease when I was a nervous new mother, and soothe my baby. We moved to Plainview 4 yrs ago and use to go to another Dr's office in the area...they misdiagnosed my daughter twice!! I finally took my SIL' s advice and went to PHA...WOW! They were and continue to provide my daughter with the best care. Dr. Kerry F is awesome and has never rushed us or made us feel that she didnt want to provide my daughter the best care possible. All the Dr's we have seen in this office have been AMAZING and caring and patient. My daughter is not easy she has a fear of needles and the word blood freaks her out but these Dr's and please lets not forget the amazing nurses, have always shown patience and care and understanding. read more

I really wanted to like this place since it came highly recommended to me by my obgny, but unfortunately they have failed my expectations! First of ,this place is like a factory , they have about 5 doctors on staff ( dr Samuel is the best) and unless you specify which doctor u like , the front desk will make that call for you. Since this place sees so many kids , their services are super impersonal and you feel rushed out. They made a huge mistake on my daughters newborn screening results which had my whole family stressed for days. Even then I wanted to give them a second chance and took my daughter back for her 1month check up ,but when they forgot to mention another important health issue to me that needed to be addressed at that check up, my husband and I decided it would be the last time we went there. I feel like Bc this place is like a factory they fail to document things properly, doctors are super busy seeing one kid after another and perhaps forget to note everything they need to in their fancy computer systems anyway, we found a smaller family pediatric practice w only one doctor who actually listens and knows your name ! read more

When I was pregnant, I put at least three local offices through the paces and chose this practice and have raved about them since. We couldn't be happier with the care our two children receive and my daughter even asks for Dr. Chalson by name! The doctors in this practice take the time to create bonds with both their patients and their parents (sometimes the parents are harder than the patients!). They take the time to be there for their families and you always get the sense that they really feel the patients are their children. We also love the convenient hours and have never been turned away with a sick child. read more

Called & they said they allow walk-ins from 8-11. Got there & the front desk, very unsympathetic, told me that we are not a clinic because we were not an existing patient. Didn't give us any options, rejected us & we had to walk out with our sick 3 yr old. Honestly it's not what you say but how you say it that makes a difference. There were no patients in the waiting room when we got there. We walked out confused and sick to our stomach. I really don't want to hear the excuse that it's the front desk and not the doctors fault. In the end your staff is a reflection on you. read more

With 4 children under the age of 5, I need superstars when it comes to my children's health. Thank god for Pediatric Health Associates. I've never encountered doctors so accessible. From the dedicated Facebook page to the amazing front office staff, PHA makes life so much easier when you have sick kids. Out of nowhere today, my one year old had a rash - they got me right in and got her on medication right away. It's a relief to a busy parent knowing that a sick kid doesn't have to be the end of the world. We love PHA and seriously cannot say enough about how much we love the doctors there and the office, itself! read more

The doctors and nurses here are very kind and thorough. But it's upsetting such a nicely decorated office with respectful medical professionals has such inconsiderate and disrespectful reception staff. After my last two visits, I've watched two different receptionists berate mothers with babies who have fevers because they did not have an appointment. (I understand the office policy- and policies exist for that specific reason- but the manner in which they spoke to a nervous parent was uncalled for) I've listened to the way they speak to parents on the phone, and then mock them when they hang up. This isn't high school, and a medical office has no room for reception staff who believe they are miles above everyone else. read more
