There was an envelope with what was supposed to be my name written on the front that had the key and a Starbucks card. My name was spelled wrong and if housekeeping hadn't been there to help, I'm not sure I would have known it was for me. I thought the Starbucks card was a nice touch until I went down for breakfast in the morning and there was a sign that there was no breakfast and the Starbucks card was in lieu. They can't help staff shortages, so I can't hold that against them. But Starbucks?? Really?? There isn't a local cafe they could have supported that would provide actual food? The room itself (Room 4) was on the top floor and had been half refurbished. So some of the amenities were nice, mostly in the bathroom, but the carpet and skylight (see photo) were nasty. The bed was pretty soft and lumpy, but I know beds are a personal preference. Because I was walking along the coast of Scotland, I had a baggage service for each of my transfers. There was no one around to let the service in during the late afternoon, so my bag was left in the unlocked foyer (that is also about the luggage service, so they get half the blame). Seems like someone should be around until at least 5pm, but that's just my opinion. Then again, no one was around in the morning to let the baggage transfer service in to pick up my bag (front door was locked), so I had to call the baggage company and ask for help. They ended up handling it well. But it was just so strange that no staff was around. I guess maybe that was the staff shortage that also resulted in no breakfast. I'm a pretty easy going person and will give people the benefit of the doubt most of the time. But I stayed in a different inn each night of my travels and this one, comparatively, was the worst experience of all. In fact, it was the only bad experience and the only non- 4 or 5 star review I would give. I would not recommend staying here until they upgrade the rooms, particularly the mold. I'm sure they're doing their best with staff shortages and that's not as much in their control. But better communication would have saved me a lot of stress, especially around my baggage.

Please don't be put off by our first impression; inside everything is nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. The room wasn't particularly big but contained almost everything you could want, although we couldn't find the hair dryer. The bed was comfortably firm; just as at home. We liked the paintings which fit with the B&B's location in the small fishing port of Pittenweem. Marie is an excellent hostess although the afternoon tea with cakes / shortbread on arrival promised on the website were not mentioned and this statement should be removed from the website if it not going to be offered. The breakfast was excellent; the porridge and scrambled eggs were both just as asked for and there was a really good choice of alternatives; we particularly liked the variety of fresh and dried fruit on offer. Good value, highly recommended.

Food: The menu is very long, somewhat confused in its breadth, but what we had from it was great. - Baked Brie - Haggis Bon Bons - Steak & Ale Pie - Bank Classic Double Burger with peppercorn sauce It was all pretty much as you expect from the names, except the Bon Bons, which are actually Haggis Pakora by another name (complete with Raita). The portions were massive BTW, so wear a loose trouser. Ambience: Unfortunately we were seated next to a cross between loose women and a hen party, even though there were window tables at the other end that were free and unreserved. Additionally this is obviously where the hotel breakfast is served as I spent my meal watching one of the staff restocking variety packs of cornflakes and refilling a tea carousel. Yeah, the window would have been a better option really. All together our cheque came to £40 which I didn't think was at all bad for starters, main courses and drinks.

Also, the knobs to turn off the water were quite small and difficult for me to fully close with my arthritic hands. That being said the entire staff was VERY ACCOMMODATING, addressing all our requests and needs. The breakfast in the bed and breakfast scheme was very good value. Dinner was average but again service was excellent. I'd book again when in the area.

But this place is so well located, have your breakfast and eat out every night, there is loads of great places to eat within a 5 iron. I could stay anywhere in St Andrews, I would pick this place every time.

I arrived at the hotel on day one and let the staff know my luggage would be delivered soon…read morethereafter by the airline as it had missed my connecting flight, but would be on its way. Cut to four days later I still did not have my luggage or golf clubs delivered and as a result, I had to buy clothing, toiletries, and rent golf clubs to play in that time. It was after I had checked out and then drove to another city when I found out that the airline had delivered my luggage and golf clubs the very next day to the hotel, but no one there ever told me they had arrived and was in their storage. No communication was made on the delivery to me and as a result had to pay extra money on things that were literally in the hotel the whole time and nothing was made to remedy the situation when it was brought to their attention. Better customer service would be appreciated.

Their food is top notch, the house is clean, welcoming, and is in a terrific location (two-three blocks from the Old Course's first tee). Food nearby for dinner as well.
