Man oh man do I love Pearls! If you're a candy lover like me, this store is essentially paradise. If you've been searching long and hard for a candy from your childhood and it's still manufactured, odds are that Pearls will have it in stock. I'm a huge fan of their cinnamon bears, and their candied grapefruit is the best gummy candy I've ever tasted. I don't even like grapefruit!! The ladies who work there crack me up. They have a great sense of humor, and are always willing to offer a sample to get you to try new things. Their selection of nuts is also impressive. I once watched a guy buy two giant SACKS of pistachios, and I heard him say he wouldn't get them anywhere else. My recommendation is to check it out and STOCK UP on your favorites. Stopped here on my way to see my mom to surprise her with her favorite candy, to uplift her while rehabilitating in a nursing home. Brenda was so helpful and very kind. We chatted and made me feel so welcome. I recommend coming here for any of your favorite childhood candy cravings. Pearl's is fun! Of course, you could assume such by the sweet candy paintings all over the building. They seriously have everything! Small store in smithfield, not always open, so I suggest calling ahead first, but the store has so much nostalgic candy, you walk in and feel like a kid again. This was my first visit to the store and I was impressed with the varieties that I hadn't seen since childhood! But I was also impressed by the employee's rudeness. I walked in and said hello. She didn't even bother to look in my direction or respond. While looking around, I said excuse me to get her attention and she looked up. I asked if they have a bigger bag of Boston Baked Beans and she said no. Nothing further added. I said thank you and she didn't respond. I approached the register with 3 bags of candy. She walked away to look at something and then came back and looked all around. Then finally acknowledges me. I should've just left everything on the counter and walked out but I paid for my candy. The nicest thing she said was do I need a receipt? Nope! And it's not likely that I'll return anytime soon. That was a terrible first impression. I thought it was racially motivated until I came to Yelp and noticed that there's been a rude clerk here for years. It feels better that it may not be racial but it's still uncomfortable and unnecessary. Great options but terrible service. Pearl's is my go to place for pumpkin seeds! Much more per bag than David's (and cheaper). The seeds are more meaty too! I buy at least 5 bags when I stop in? I went to Pearls on Christmas Eve, unaware that they were closing early. As I was walking up to the store, a man was standing at the door and asking a woman if he could please come in and get just one thing. She kept repeating that they were closed. After he mentioned that he had worked on their roof, she reluctantly let us both in. I was really grateful that she did because I wanted to pick up my mother's and daughter's favorite licorice candy. This is one of the only stores I can find it. After quickly picking up two bags of candy and running to the register, I apologized to the woman and told her that next time I would remember to come earlier. Her response? "Next time I'll remember to say 'F#*k you.' " Needless to say, I will not be returning to Pearls. read more

This is a candy mecca! Pearls has a bit of everything - from the 50's to now. This is just about the only place in the area that I can find one of my all time favorites - rock candy. This is the best place to get candy in the area, if not Rhode Island. Of course, I'm partial to Robin's on Newbury in Boston, but I digress. If there is a candy of it, it will be here. Prices are fair, and you can buy in bulk. If you like bulk seeds, nuts, goodies to make trail mix, etc--this is where you can come. If you're diabetic/watching sugar, they do have a great selection of sugar free candy, as well as a fudge/chocolate section for those of us who are chocaholics. The two old ladies at the register are super rude. Made my friends 7 year old cry for "putting 2 lolipops in his mouth" which he swore to the lady he did not do, as his mother was right there watching him. If you have small children I would refrain from this establishment before the children are accused and lectured over what they should and should not do. Seriously old school! Don't mess with these ladies. They are as sweet as the chocolate but could be as sour as the patch kids if you are not careful! Tons of bulk candy up to the ceiling! New stuff and Classic candy as well. This is my GRACELAND!!! They have a small batch chocolate counter with a great sugar free selection fer my moms. They have molasses puffs which are like the British "Crunchie" which since my time in Liverpool are my favorite!!!! Prices are decent. And the power boxes outside are painted like candy. With one minor exception, this wonderful little shop reminds me of the old-fashioned candy stores I visited as a kid. It's really cute inside and smells even sweeter (yes, that's a joke). The exception I mentioned is that the sell "bulk", which is not bad, or rather, it's a good thing. If you like a specific candy, you can often find it in larger quantities (avoiding the embarrassing "I'll take 50 bags of those!"). The candy stores from my youth didn't offer that. They also sell fresh cooked fudge, though my waist-line has limited that indulgence. If your looking for a long-lost familiar candy store, bring your little one (grandchild perhaps?), and plan on spending 15 minutes "shopping". Parking is *very* tough, so I gave it 4-out-of-5 stars. If you can get in there without getting hit, then give them their lost star. read more

There is definitely something wrong with the cashier. She is so rude and unwelcoming. She openly scolds your children when they haven't done anything wrong. The candy selection is fantastic. If you have to have Mexican Hats or some other hard to find candy so badly that you're willing to subject yourself to abuse by all means, try Pearls. read more

I love this place, and the people who work here. This relatively small store is jammed with an incredible variety of high quality chocolate candy, individually wrapped often hard to find hard candy and their own on site roasted nuts. They have great seasonal stuff too. This is a hike for me, so when I go I stock up. Today I got chocolate Halloween novelies.. chocolate leaves, foil wrapped in beautiful autumn colors and 5 bags of extremely hard to find hard candy. Extremely unfriendly and disrespectful clerk. I am blind with a guide dog, I grew up in Woonsocket and had been frequenting this establishment for many years until I moved away. I was back visiting family this weekend and when I was younger my vision wasn't so bad and I didn't need the aid of a cane or a seeing eye dog then. Well today when I walked in, I was greeted by someone saying that I couldn't have my dog in here. I proceeded to tell the clerk that I was blind and this was my seeing eye dog and that seeing eye dogs are aloud in any place the public is aloud. she replied, well I understand but this is an open candy place where we pack candy. Could you please wait by the door then and have the people with you help you from there. I was obviously shocked and not happy and I proceeded to tell her again I had the law in my pocket if she would like to have me show it to her and that she is violating federal and state laws. She didin't want to back down. I told the people I was with that i wasn't going to try to even shop somewhere where they were going to violate my civil rights and be discriminatory. It wasn't until I got back in the car that the people I was with told me that the area I was in had bulk candy all in wrappers and that the chocolate that were not in wrappers was accross the store behind a glass case. I mean seriously, how incredibly hateful, hurtful and ignorant of her, and not to mention horrible customer service in general. I urge anyone who lives in the area still to not bother to give them their business until they learn how to treat customers and those who are differently abled.the read more

I grew up in North Smithfield; this little candy store is a gem! The shopkeepers are warm, receptive, and create a very welcoming atmosphere. Pearls offers a wide selection of hard-to-find candy, fudge, nuts, and novelties. Every time I come home to North Smithfield, from college, I make sure to stop into Pearls for a bit of nostalgia, to chat with the ladies, and to satisfy my sweet tooth.
