Wow. Wandered in here to browse for frames. Some people in front were very friendly, young, and helpful. Person in back insanely snarky and rude/argumentative, just for simple information delivery for pricing. I spent quite a bit of time here and couldn't believe the behavior and interactions of the person in back of the store, even regarding their phone appointments. PREFACE: If you are on Husky, DO NOT GO TO THESE PEOPLE. But to those who aren't on Husky: STILL DO MOT GO THESE PEOPLE! Please go somewhere else to get your eye exam and THEN come here to get your glasses if you choose to. But Don't get me wrong though, The staff there is very friendly, very understanding and were helpful. BUT that Dr. Eng is a quack with his smart attitude, stupid remarks, and other unrelated gibberish that came out of him, when all I wanted was my eye exam and a new pair of glasses. He needs to be replaced and I know among other reviews I've seen I'm not the only one to have a bad experience with him. I've seen that there's more people who've complained about Dr. Eng than having a positive thing to say about him. If I could give the staff a rating, it was be 4 out of 5. But the rest of the experience of that place would be a 0/5. I tried to get them to fix my first pair of glasses, which they made wrong. They gave me a second eye exam with Dr. Eng again and felt like I was bothering/wasting his time with this 2nd eye exam. Above and Beyond! The gentleman Ted helped me so much. Long story short my regular eye doctor canceled 3 times, and I need glasses for my international trip in 2 days. A week prior I went to another location, set up the appointment only to have another cancel. The lady recommended here and Ted was amazing!! So patience and understanding of my situation. I was able to get my glasses same day because my prescription was eligible for that. Words can not translate how grateful I am. Definitely will be back!! On Feb. 20,2024 I went into Pearl Vision, Milford, CT to get a temple piece screw put back into the temple piece (the screw is really really tiny). I was there less than 10 minutes and he asked for $5.00 cash, I told him I haven't carried cash since Covid because at 91 years old I don't want to handle cash, you don't know what germs are on it. So I offered to give him a credit card. Lo and behold, the price goes up to $25.00 . I ask you where do you think that $5,00 cash was going? I was referred to Pearle Vision in Milford, CT by my Eye Doctor who moved out of the area. At first, I was reticent since I was so comfortable with my Doctor. But because I trust him, I made an appointment and was more than happy with my decision. Dr. Eng is a true professional and Maria, his assistant, is wonderful. She was able to find me $800.00 in discounts for 2 pair of glasses. She also helped Ted find me glasses that fit my face so I don't look like my eigth grade math teacher at Swift Junior High, Mr. Johnson. I was also so happy with the timely delivery of my eyeglasses. This was our third or fourth year going to Pearle Vision in Milford. We've had great experiences there, but we were apprehensive about how this would work during the pandemic. It turned out to be another great experience. In terms of Covid precautions, everyone had masks on, there was plexiglass at the tables, and the glasses were disinfected after you tried them on. Dr. Eng is a joy. And, Anita, who helped us select frames and walked us through pricing, was amazing. She was patient as we tried on frames, helpful in giving feedback, and clear and efficient at explaining pricing. Our glasses came in within a few days. We could not have had a better experience at Pearle Vision this year. We'll be back again next year! read more

I will never go back to this location ever again. The few times I have I interacted with the folks at the front desk (2 yrs ago and again recently) have been extremely negative, where I encountered rudeness, a dismissive attitude, unnecessary pushback, and unwillingness to help - regarding questions and requests that are within the boundaries of their job description. 2 yrs ago, when I first came to this clinic, and had my hard contacts fitted here, I had already had a negative experience , again with the poor customer service at the front desk. One example was, I had specific questions about insurance coverage for contacts, but no one in the front desk could answer me. They had to wait until the optometrist finished his appointment to answer the question. ?? Isn't that part of your job description to answer these kinds of administrative questions OR AT LEAST make an effort to call the insurance company to figure it out? Anyway, I didn't write a review then because- yes, it sucked, but it wasn't the end of the world, and I still got my contacts. Fast forward 2 yrs... Today, when I called to make an appointment for an emergency visit, on the very rare occasion I lose one of my hard contacts, the person at the front desk tells me their soonest available is in 3 wks. I politely ask, is there any way I could be squeezed in due to the fact that I am literally missing a contact OR at least have a replacement be ordered for me until their next availability (in 3 wks). She says they can't put in the order because the prescription is 1) 2 yrs old and therefore outdated, and 2) was brought in from another clinic. She then suggested that I should go back to the other clinic to get a new Rx. (For context- not every clinic fits for hard contact lenses. 2 yrs ago, after I got my vision checked, I was told they do soft contacts, not hard, leading me on a search for any place that will fit for hard contacts). I say to the person: so you want me to schedule an appointment at another place and bring the Rx over to you, and then have you fit me for hard contacts? She says, if that's what you want to do. I clarify, no, it's not what I want to do, but it's what you're telling me to do in order for a replacement contact to be ordered for me. She said yes, because they have no availabilities and because my Rx is out of date, they can't put in another order for me. I explain that it's more complicated than me simply bringing an updated Rx to their office - because a vision exam only gives the Rx, but fitting for hard contacts still requires an appointment with the optometrist, which other places don't do. I then ask - if I had a vision exam done at their clinic, and they had a 2 yr old Rx from their clinic, what would they do? She said, she would probably try to fit me in for an updated exam sooner (than 3 wks). At this point, it was clear to me, she made her decision to not fit me in because I had my vision exam done at another place, EVEN THOUGH I am their patient and had my contacts fitted at their office. It was clear that not wanting to be inconvenienced trumped working with me. Finally, I ask what she advises that I do, given that I literally have no back up contact? (This is typical for hard lenses). She says, the only thing she could do, is offer me an appointment in 3 weeks, and if something comes up, can schedule me sooner. This is after me explaining to her, calmly, the urgency of the situation, with her telling me, I'm on a list with 11 other people. I have worn glasses and contacts for over 20 ys, and have never in my life, encountered such rudeness, dismissiveness, and an unwillingness to work with the patient as I have in this office. Hard contacts being replaced is a common occurrence, whether it's one or two years out. For adults between 25-40, one's vision is mostly stable, and I have had optometrists tell me that it's fine for me to keep my hard lenses for up to 2 yrs without a new Rx. As someone who works in primary care, I understand how strained front desks get in clinics, especially when dealing with a large number of people or calls, but when you are unable to remain professional, polite, and compassionate in your interaction with a patient, then that's incompetence. Especially when a patient is literally coming to you for help in a time of need, not to make your job more difficult or annoying than it already is. At this point, you either need to be retrained or have someone else who can juggle the pressures of a busy clinic and still maintain a level of respect and compassion take over the job. For readers, if you just want a place that can get the job done and you don't care about the human interaction piece of it, maybe you wouldn't mind coming here. But if you're looking for a professional and compassionate environment, I advise that you take your insurance and money elsewhere. For the company, I have nothing against you. Aunt bought classes. 850 dollars. 1. Unethical upselling of unneeded add ons. 2. Went back seven times to fix glasses. 3. Sold glasses that were too small for head and caused lenses to come loose, frames to bend etc. 4. Only solution was to pay around 300 more for other glasses. 5. Do not go here! Unfortunately I didn't realize until well into their hard sell that they are owned by the same company I have vision insurance with. Insurance says I get $130 off frames, fine then they'll take $20 frames and mark them up to $250; insurance says that my co-pay on scratch is $20, they call is Crystal Alize and charge $68. For an exam and a pair of glasses, after insurance, $500! (claiming that insurance had taken off over $400 already. Meanwhile, I got the glasses and they were wrong. (Had to argue with them just to have them made as originally ordered). Meanwhile a top quality pair at Costco up the street came out to $150 (no insurance needed). read more

Lying scammers. First time we went there they charged us higher copay than our insurance has, on both exams. I had to call the insurance to confirm and then insist on a refund check for the amount they overcharged. Then they got pissed at me when I wouldn't buy glasses from them after all that. We didn't go there to buy their glasses, we went for vision check ups. Second time they tried to pull the same stunt again with asking for our major medical insurance so they could charge a higher copay, and when we refused they called us back to cancel the appointment because they "just figured out they don't accept our insurance." Their logo is on the back of our insurance card and their office address is still on the in-network provider list. Avoid these jerks. I'd really like to live in a world where we can trust doctors but you really do have to question every thing they do if you don't want to get charged out the nose. read more

Is one star the lowest you can give to a business? I don't think they even deserve 1 due to the horrible customer services from their cashier (Axxtx). I witnessed her being rude to an old Hispanic couple; yelling and arguing to other customers on the phone and even yelling at her coworkers. I don't understand how this type of customer service can be tolerated, especially many people lost their jobs during this Covid 19 pandemic. Just not a pleasant place to get your glasses. I waited weeks to finally schedule an appointment here for my yearly check up only to receive horrible customer service. The woman at the front desk is condescending and rude. Traditionally, opticals offer customers to pick our their glasses after seeing the doctor. I had to personally ask her if I could get glasses at all? And even then, she seemed to think the glasses were out of my range for purchase? I'm not sure if the staff here is extremely judgmental or what - but I don't work my ass off to be disrespected by the local staff at an optical that believes themselves to be "upscale". I've been to much more upscale places with humbler staff members. This optical needs to stop treating their clients as expendable, stop focusing so much on how much money you can get out of your client and more on actually caring for the people that walk in. I just needed THIRTY SECONDS to call them right back!!!! I made the appointment online, and was just about to call them and verify that they take my insurance when they called me. They asked what insurance I had and told them. Then the woman calling asked for the last 4 digits of my SSN. I told her I was not comfortable giving that out over the phone when I did not place the call, called ID can be spoofed,and I would call the number back that was online for their location. While I was in the middle of a sentence she handed the phone to another woman who also demanded the last 4 of my SSN. At this point I said that I was not sure if I was comfortable going there because of how I was being treated and then they just hung up on me.All they had to do was give me 30 seconds to call back and for some reason they would not let me do that. I don't want a place like this dealing with the health of my eyes. I used to work in a bank and had a lot of people crying to me that they gave out their information over the phone and now their bank account was wiped out or someone racked up thousands in debt in their name and that is why I am so cautious now. I think they have changed ownership recently, they used to be very good. read more

I went to see the doctor based on the yelp review since I was not born and raised in the area. Overall the exam went well. The doctor proceed to give me a rant on how I need to drink more water because my eyes are "suffering". Ok got it! That's when it took a turn. He proceeded to tell me that I would not look as old as I do (28yrs) if I drank water and I would solve my medically diagnosed anxiety. Totally uncalled for. He does not know me or my background to come to those conclusions. I will never go back. Yes sometimes the truth hurts.....but anxiety is not his area of expertise and is not his place to judge. read more

Last review was scathing because I was ticked, felt slighted and after hundreds of dollars ended up with a substandard product. Since then I sent the mother ship a note about the situation, clearly noting I expected nothing since I was beyond the 30 days. A Pearle rep got back to me and said she would touch base with the local store. In two weeks I actually got a call tp pic up my new glasses. They replaced the frames at no charge. First off, the selection of glasses was pretty small; however, that wasn't the major issue I had with this store. The lady working there was very rude and overbearing from the start. She constantly made rude comments and kept interjecting herself into our conversation when we were trying to select glasses. We never asked for her opinion, but she wouldn't leave us alone. The last straw was when she made a comment about my boots that were slightly dirty. I had cleaned the bottom before I walked into the store, but there was a small amount of dirty on the top. I really liked Dr. Eng he was very personable and did a great job, however the rest of his staff needs to work on their customer service skills. I was never told that my insurance was in network for an eye exam, but out of network for my contacts and glasses (how this makes sense I have no clue). I was not told until after my exam when I sat down to order my contacts, at which point the technician was negotiating with me like a car salesperson and was very rude to me once I no longer showed interest due to my being out of network, and proceeded to scold me saying that I must've been told that I was out of network when I scheduled the appointment. If this was the case, I would never have gone there as the entire reason for my visit was to get new contacts. After spending an hour at that office, I had to drive and extra half an hour there and back to the Hamden Pearle Vision (where I was in network for both my exam and contacts). The Hamden staff was MUCH nicer and more helpful and did not make me feel like I had to haggle as if I were buying a car. I will be going to the Hamden one from now on, never again will I go to this location. read more

I had a great experience at Pearle Vision with Dr. Loucopoulos. I was able to make a same-day appointment online for a contact lens fitting, which cost $70. (That was more affordable than Lenscrafters, Costco, Walmart.) I was seen as soon as I arrived. The staff did not unduly pester me to purchase contacts from them. Dr. Loucopoulos was fantastic. He was very honest about the costs and benefits of going up in prescription strength, especially for someone like me who reads all day at work. He was also willing to prescribe 9.0 curvature contacts, rather than his normal 8.5, because that's what I've used for years. He provided me with sample contacts to tide me over until I can get new contacts. There is more parking in the back. read more

The exam I was given 6 months ago was very thorough and accurate, but VERY expensive compared to EVERY OTHER EXAM EVER. They insisted on having my Major Medical Insurance on file "in case the doctor finds things that aren't covered". SCAM. The sales staff was very friendly UNTIL I offered competitor's prices for the same contacts. They then became quite unfriendly, even rude, and hurried me out of the store,but not before overcharging me by doubling my co-pay. Eventually the doctor wrote me a personal check for the difference, probably so he didn't get in trouble with the insurance company. The doctor at this location is NO LONGER PART of the Humana network, although his office said he was when I called recently to get an exam for my daughter. I will NEVER return to that location. I had a really great experience here with the doctor and the sales staff! The doctor did some adjusting to the script I had received @ Yale Health plan that seemed to be a little off (done within the same month- thinking the one @ yale was very rushed). It's made a great difference in how I see and mAde it possible for me to keep my glasses on while reading up close. Further, the sales staff was very helpful without being pushy. They helped me figure out a way to save money when ordering a second pair of glasses which I greatly appreciate. I definitely make the drive out to Milford to work with these folks- they have a great, fun collection of frames too! read more

Then I learn that this location does not take my insurance, although the Pearle I have been going to for years has always accepted it.
