Recently when selling some jewelery, we had the ring looked at by a fifth ave. jeweler, and he stated that Bigham's was a good offer...which begs the question! what transpired 3yrs ago in that backroom at Bigham. I told her I wanted a professional evaluation of the pieces, both as potential estate/vintage items and for melt value. She told me to come in and ask for her specifically. When I arrived, she briefly looked at everything with her eyes, did not weigh or test any of the pieces, and immediately asked, "What are you looking to get?" I explained that I came to them as professionals and wanted their evaluation. Instead of assessing anything, she insisted I give her a number first. She then threw out "$300" as an example -- a number far below even the melt value of the 14K portion alone. I told her that comment felt disrespectful and unprofessional, especially since no evaluation had been done. She became defensive and said she wasn't sure they should work with me. She also admitted she wasn't the decision‑maker and would need to take it to the owner, despite being the person I was told to meet. At no point did she weigh, test, or properly assess any of the jewelry. The entire interaction felt dismissive, unprofessional, and like a complete waste of time. I left feeling disrespected and will not be returning. I don't think it is wrong to expect to take your jewelry somewhere and have them look at it as professionals and give you an estimate in their mind. Whatever that value might be. But to throw out a number like $300 when I have almost 80 g of gold in total without even testing it or looking at it or even accurately going through it is just absolutely shocking. I recommend not going here for anything as you are clearly going to be taking advantage of overcharged and they're hoping no one is wise enough to know the difference.-5 star review if it was possible.
