The experience was really fun for my daughter. We were told the cheapest option would be $69.99 but that never materialized. That said -- it didn't matter so much to me. Edmund was great and helpful. I'd have paid him and left but he pitched too long and my wife showed up...she's less fun sometimes. I'm sorry stuff got weird, Edmund but thank you so much for having patience with us. It's truly about the experience and the memories you walk away with. My son loved getting to pick an oyster and watch me create a special setting for the pearl he chose just for me. It's a keepsake I'll cherish for years--a meaningful piece that holds more sentimental value than some of my other jewelry. The ladies at the pearl factory, Maureen and Christina , were absolutely wonderful--warm, welcoming, and made the experience even more memorable. I ended up with a beautiful plumeria setting that my son is so proud of, and so am I. If you're looking for heirloom-level fine jewelry, you might go to a traditional jeweler. But if you want something unique, beautiful, and tied to a special moment, this is the perfect place. It was worth every penny for the joy it brought both of us. read more

I love collecting pearls from the pearl places by me in Orlando so knew I would collect one in Hawaii too. I was lucky and got twin pearls for $20. Staff members were friendly and not pushy on upselling for the jewelry options. read more

Sales person is rude, hostile, and became very personal when customers don't want to be pressured into buying an expensive jewelry.

If you want to buy a pearl here and engage in the fun, just walk away with the pearl and do not get tricked in to buying anything else. They will tell you that they have jewelry for the pearl starting at $59, and then the first ring they show you is $899. The gentleman working the booth the day we went was a very smooth talker, but don't get caught up in their scam. read more

At first walking up to this place the gentleman was very nice and very helpful. Once he opened out pearl we went in and started showing us jewelry options for the pearl. Unfortunately he didn't have the pendant we wanted in stock. He tried convincing us to get a yellow gold vs the white we wanted and we declined and asked when he would get it. Once he saw we didn't want it his attitude and Demeanor changed. He was very rude and started being disrespectful gossiping with his coworker as I was standing right there. Calling me out of my name. I wanted to return to buy that pendant but this company will never get my business. I hope the owner or manager will handle this according but I expect the same response from all the other bad reviews they receive with no apology. read more

What a way to ruin the end of our Hawaii trip. Walking by the mall we came across this scam shop. The poster said $15 for pearls in oysters, we knew he wouldn't be giving that pearl in a pricey jewelry, but just a fine ring or neck piece would have suffice. The guy was like if you select a ring I will give to you in 5 min en all. Mind you this is prior to when we opened the oyster. When we did he started showing his true colors, he gave me the ring measurer to know my ring size & said, "ohh this ring size it will take 1-2 days to get mended & all. We decided to go for a neck piece instead. He showed some pieces worth $400. Yup. For a few minutes he went to other side of the shop took our pearl, we were just having a talk & the guy changed the pearl. It was a pink pearl that we got off the oyster, it was silver when he bought back, keep an eye on your pearl. The pearl had crack lines on it. My better half got into a brawl with the rude guy in the end, we just asked him to give the pearl, he started making faces. When we said we will right about this on review he said yup go ahead even I will write that " you guys did not want to spend any money & came here", Yeah, people come to Hawaii spending hundreds but cant spend $16. Do yourself a favor & don't fall in this scam. read more

TO BE ALERT this store buys multiple items. My mom asked the price verbal , the lady said $60 for stud earring. But when she bring up receipts is $79.99 and also pendent the lady said is $75 but she charged $89.99. I stood next to my mom I knew that she overcharged and asked her. She changed the topic and tried to give free one oyster and I didn't want to ruin my mom experience family trip. So I stayed quiet. Overall, don't go to this place unless you like to pay overcharged prices. read more

This was so much fun! Picked an oyster and cracked it open to see which pearl we got. The staff was so much fun we went back several times just to say "HI!". Anyway, I bought the pearl and had it set in the sea turtle setting for my boyfriend and we are both very happy with this piece. I absolutely love The Pearl Factory and the experience. My first time finding a pearl was almost 30 years ago, on our honeymoon. We just happen to to visit a place with a pearl factory about once every 5 years. My most recent experience was just a couple of weeks ago in Hawaii at the Pearl Factory by the Polynesian Cultural Center. MacKenzie that works there is the absolute best! We actually ran out of time because we were headed to the show, but I ended up face- timing her after we returned home and I still got to experience my "traditional" pick a pearl in a non-traditional way! Beautiful jewelry every time and MacKenzie is the best, great service with a smile! They really do have something for everyone's budget. read more

My daughters and I enjoyed the experience. I just wanted for my pearl to have a really simple pendant clasp but daughter#1 ended up buying me the Ohana pendant as a birthday present. They also bought pendants and a bracelet for themselves. A little pricey but I guess it was worth the fun and excitement we had during the whole process. It sure was one of the highlights of our Hawaii trip. Mahalo! read more

HIT OR MISS...Mixed review: Depends on who is there behind the counter. IF MAUREEN IS THERE absolutely! Go ahead and work with her. She's a great!!! but anyone else... skip this stand. We went 2 times. There was a sign for $17.99 for an oyster. The first time my son (11) had an amazing experience with the fan fare of opening the oyster. MAUREEN was AMAZING and kind to my son. Gave him a memory he talked about non-stop. When we were shown the options for setting the Pearl he wasn't a fan of the options they had there so we considered a Pearl cage, prices ranged from $50-250. So note that it the cost will be at least that much unless you buy a prepackaged oyster (see below for more on that) The second time we went, my son was was excited to share the experience with my daughter (16). It was our last day and we were headed to the airport but had time. We waited for them to open store, my daughter was so excited to share this experience with my son they had talked about it at breakfast. When the oysters were out out she started looking and the woman behind the counter (different from evening) immediately said to us if you're not planning on buying a setting that runs at least $60 you can't get an oyster. We don't make money otherwise so we stopped doing the oysters unless you pick a setting first... but I can sell you the packaged oyster for $25 and you open it at home. A couple of things to note. My daughter probably would have loved the Pearl cage options... and I understand that a business needs to consider its bottom line. We probably would have gotten a setting and Pearl. However, the tone in which it was said was annoyance like we were a burden to have been waiting there at opening. I asked since my daughter wanted to see the Pearl before committing to a setting if we bought the packaged Pearl could we open it there for the experience and she said no "company policy" it's not me my boss says no we can't. What she, her boss and company policy fail to realize is that this is the generation that will remember this and share with their friends for years to come. What could have been an amazing memory turned into a bitter end of our vacation. The thing is I remembered the oyster pearls from when I was in Hawaii 40 years ago and I had the experience so when my son did it- it was full circle. THIS IS A JEWELRY STAND... it's not about the oysters/pearls. They are not there to sell you the experience of finding a Pearl in an oyster. They are there to sell you jewelry. The oyster is for you to engage in buying a piece of jewelry that is pretty. Maybe overpriced but still pretty and enjoy the process. Only if they are in a good mood and want to be there. The reality is that everything in Hawaii is expensive and you know that going there and you plan for that. What you don't plan on, is the service while it isn't down right rude- it's definitely not polite or friendly. This wasn't the first time during our trip that we ran into annoyed and unfriendly locals. The odd thing is the most polite and friendly people living in Hawaii were actually transplants. read more

Christina and the team at the Hawaiian Hilton village Pearl Factory went above and beyond to help me fix my pearl ring I purchased here many years ago. I purchased a pearl for $17.99. I was so excited, I really wanted to buy a pearl in Hawaii. I got a beautiful pink pearl, had it set in something that was expensive for me, but I was in Hawaii. The man put it in the pouch while I signed the receipt. He handed me an envelope and said everything was in it. I took his word for it. The bag never left my sight. But later, when I went to look in the envelope, the pouch with my pearl pendant was nowhere to be seen. I went back, and the guy said he put it in the envelope. I really don't know what to believe, but going there was one of the most expensive mistakes I ever made. read more

Purchased a beautiful necklace at Na Hoku and we were walking past the Pearl Factory. Christina said "hey, you get a Pearl if you purchased at Na Hoku". We were waiting for a table for dinner and decided to see what happens. Opened a wonderful dark color Pearl. Had it set into a ring and LOVE IT! They have settings of several prices and are somewhat excited to sell something to you. Their excitement made it more fun. I could see it feeling pushy, but if we said NO it would have been ok. End of the day, I got a very pretty ring and fun story. read more

Pricey, but it's waikiki. Bought two diamond turtle knecklaces for a memorable 5th bday!!!!

ALOHA AND HELLO!!!!! thay is the first thing you hear if you stop by this kiosk looking at their jewelry. You are greeted with the most energetic people working there, and they start telling you about what they do and offer. They tell you that your oyster is only $17, and you get to pick your oyster, and they open it up for you. But what they do next is kind of shady or over the top. They start listing their highest priced casings for your pearl, which was ridiculously overpriced. From a $17 pearl to a $900 gold casing with a gold necklace. I talked them down into a cheaper option because I explained that it was too much, but Chris, who was the manager that helped me, didn't even try to hide her disappointment. It was pretty off setting at that point and didn't even want continue doing business with her. She did lighten up right after I suggested her cheaper options or risk losing a customer. Overall a nice first time thing to do for someone important in your life but just be prepared for a little ride with the workers. read more

At first me and my family were drawn in by the sign out front saying, "pearls and oysters $14.99 each". We decided it would be fun to try out, and see what we got. After our oysters were opened he asked if we wanted any jewelry to hold it on, after we said no he turned around and drilled a hole in them to show us what it would look like on a necklace... The first necklace he showed us was over 200 dollars so we repeated that we didn't want anything to hold it and that we just wanted the pearl but he continued to push. We ended up staying for an extra ten minutes while he kept showing us different pieces of jewelry. All in all, they were very pushy and rude read more

Today was my first time at Pearls Factory. From start to finish it was a great experience. Edmund was excellent and very knowledgeable.

What a wonderfully fun activity for my daughter and I. She has loved pearls for years and picking a oyster, seeing the pearl And then having it made into a piece of amazing jewelry is a memorable way to bring a truly special keepsake from Hawaii. The staff was enthusiastic and fun. Loved this experience and you will too. read more

The guy that helped us was so so so pushy. After I told him I just wanted to pearl pierced for a gift he got really mean. Because I originally wanted it in a pendant but he would show me any affordable settings. The gold and white gold were all $200 and up. And even for me that is steep. Seeing that the pearl was so small and only worth probably $40. It just didn't make sense to me. I saw they had some pendant settings for about $30 and he refused to show those. Until I started to walk away, then he asked again but by then I was too pissed off. He made remarks like," this is for your sister, why are you being cheap? " like bro, I'm on vacation not a shopping spree. read more

This was my first time in Hawaii and I feel like the one person that I will remember forever will be Christina Brown, the store manager at the Pearl Factory in the Hawaiian Village. I feel like Hawaii lacks a lot of customer service! Sales people are super rude everywhere BUT Christina Brown was absolutely 100% everything that I'm looking for in a sales person, she was not pushy and really helped me in choosing the right pieces of jewelry that I would never regret getting. She is very knowledgeable and I know it might seem like a scam because you're looking to buy a $17.99 pearl but honestly the gold that the pearl factory carries is WORTH it. It has a nice weight to it and thick. Christina was an absolute doll and professional, she really shows you a great experience and she recommended some good places to go eat. Listen, these are cultured pearls that are a great quality. If you want pearls from the ocean go to Australia and good luck. read more

There's a "Pick a Pearl" across from them by the other pool that is $14.99 but for $1 more, you have a larger selection. But the pearls are still small. 6.7 mm. Can't really see it in the pendant cage. Daughter still had fun. They tried to upset the necklace and the cheapest came out to $100. The cheapest at the other place was $80. Definitely out of an 8 yr old price range so we bought a kit off Amazon for $9 and it included a necklace and another pearl! This really was just for the experience. The person said she picked a nice pearl of course and that it stood for love and wisdom. I couldn't find that description anywhere for a silver blue pearl which I was told was also rare and worth $100. Not sure about that either. All in all it was a fun experience as long as u don't get pushed into buying a nice setting that is way more expensive than the pearl you picked. Oh...and the oysters have been dead for a long time. They aren't fresh. They put them in water after taking them out of a bag with chemicals in it. They even sell the DIY kit for $50. Same as the one I got on Amazon for $9. read more

My sister and I walked by and saw the sign that said "Pearls in the Oyster $14.99 each". We decided to pick one for fun and just see what pearl we would get. The lady YUNI NANOD assisted us.. she was VERY pushy on getting us to get the pearl mounted on a piece of jewelry. When we said we only wanted the pearl itself, she made snarky remarks like "No one just gets the pearl. I have never seen anyone not get the jewelry. What are you going to do with just a pearl." We didn't even have a choice as she turned around and already drilled a hole in the pearl to be mounted... we ended up paying for the one pearl and she didn't even say thank you and had the most sour face. Such a bad experience!! read more

I was always satisfied with them when i first found it in Hawaii and Pier 39 when i was younger, you got yo see the pearl come out of the meat of oyster. What happened to that these day? I know these days most are cultured but these? Seemed as if the were grown and the extracted and placed in a complete unhost of the pearl. Dont just drop them in! Pearls are supposed to be an experience! Everything these days is this party pearl implanted (NOT GROWN) in an oyster!I feel Pearl Factory has gone that direction. Not terribly satisfied. Completely disappointed. Pearls was of OK quality, had luster, but prefer the DIG THEM OUT myself, NOT JUST FALL OUT. Photos are irrelevant, because they're ALL THE SAME COLOR! I got a black tahitian when I was 13, never found one again. I know they're rare, but still. DON'T SELL A PEARL EXPERIENCE IF ITS NOT LEGIT, PEARL FACTORY IS NOT LEGIT THESE DAYS! read more

It's a scam. This kind of stuff should be illegal. It's a fun gimmick, but such fun passes when you realize you have been ripped off. Good lesson for myself and for others. Its starts as $14.99 (already a rip off) and then they lie to you that it is worth more. Then you are pressured into buying a setting, which starts at $29.99. It's an amoral business worthy of a conman. read more

The service I received here was very unacceptable. The experience started off well, and picking out the pearl was fun. However, as the lady was showing us jewelry for the pearl to be set in, she became very pushy. When I ultimately decided that the piece of jewelry I liked was a bit too expensive for me at the time, the lady stated how I should "go to work and find a job" to afford the piece of jewelry. She said this without knowing any of my circumstances and I left the store quite angry. I do not recommend this store to anyone. read more

We've always passed this kiosk every time we've stayed at Hilton Hawaiian Village. There is a sign that states that "you pick oysters" are only $14.99. My 8 year old daughter is really into Minecraft and jewels so I thought that maybe I could get her a pearl and in some inexpensive setting for kids. That's when I made the erroneous mistake.... As my daughter excitedly picked out her precious pearl, the salespeople were following her excitement by saying "Aloha" followed by a gong ceremony. As nice as the sales lady was, she quickly tried to sell diamond studded turtle necklace for $349 for my daughter. My husband and I were stunned. I indicated that there was no way we were going to spend that much money for an elementary school child. Sales lady looked little bothered and asked me what my budget was. I felt very trapped as I promised my daughter that I would buy her something special on this trip and I didn't want to disappoint her. I finally settled on $160 rose gold necklace setting, which she absolutely loves. I know that sales people have to make a living but I would really appreciate some more open disclosure. My husband and I are not cheap consumers but we felt rather coerced and taken advantage of. We expect these type of practices from a used car sales lot or time share presentation....NOT innocuous looking jewelry kiosk which frankly looks cheap..... read more

Very nice atmosphere but the most rude and insulting, and disrespectful people that work there. Don't you know all people aren't stupid about pearls and may know more than you. Insulting you doesn't make for good public relations. My friend even went back and I sat away because I don't care to be insulted and the gal did it again with her loud mouth and I told her I probably know more about pearls than she did and if that wasn't enough she said I must be a know it all. I approach these places as being fun. My experience at this location was a thumbs down especially if you don't relent to their high pressure sales. read more

The gimmick is that you get the pearl for $15.99, BUT what they don't tell you is that you have to buy their overpriced settings (the jewelry piece that attaches to the pearl), which is at least $50. They open the oyster in front of you, and you don't know what kind of pearl you're going to get. I saw someone with a black pearl that retails for $500, but I was a less lucky and got a pink pearl that retailed for $50. When selling their settings, they will aim high first. They tried to sell me $200+ setting with a diamond, which came from their "1" labeled box. I said no. Then they tried to sell me their "1b" box settings, which was only slightly cheaper. I finally purchased their "1c" box setting. It's called lava flow setting. It's simpler than the diamond decorated one, but love it! But I don't know if it was worth the price tag, though. Paid $80+ in total. In the end, they offered me a free pearl, but that's also another tourist trap to get you to buy another expensive setting. "Free"? What a lie! No thanks. They have good customer service, but they're quite pushy on trying to sell you their more expensive settings. It was fun opening the oyster and all, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Too overpriced in my opinion. TIP: Apparently the secret is that the uglier the oyster, the more expensive the pearl inside. read more

Beware the "free" pearl! It can be really expensive! The funny part is, when you buy a setting for the free pearl, you get another free pearl!!!!
