Bob & Ed's was on a maintenance contract for two years for our home HVAC equipment. After the…read morerecent furnace inspection, their technician advised that our furnace might not make it through the winter because the heat exchanger was about to fail, so I had the furnace replaced. When the old furnace was removed, it was discovered the evaporator coils on the old furnace were completely stopped up (see photo). They were supposed to be inspected and cleaned so the equipment would operate efficiently, per the maintenance contract. Bob & Ed's acknowledged they messed up and refunded my money for the current year's contract. The technician from the company that installed the new furnace said the clogged coils contributed to the shortened life of the old furnace. Bob & Ed's disputed that. Lesson learned: Just because a Bob & Ed's technician tells you he's done the work, that's not necessarily so.

In May of 2013 Russaw replaced a 2 ton unit that was 10 years old and that had worked fine until…read morethe compressor quit. They installed the unit and within a month the compressor was out on it as well. Even though it was only a month old and under warranty they still charged me a service call, for which i paid. Then at this time, they said i had a leak in the pipe in the wall and would need to be replaced , so i did so. Paid again. Within 2 months , my unit wasn't working and they came out and said its out of freon, so they did another test (#3) and said my coil was leaking and that i needed a new coil so i went on and paid them to replace the whole blower unit including the coils. Well, you would think, now after 3 full summers , everything but the duct work has been replaced it would be working great. Wrong! They have made atleast 6 more trips to my home and each time puts freon in and tries to charge me and tells me the reason its not working is the ductwork is the wrong size and it needs to be rerun. (because that makes it leak freon) lol! I explain every time that this unit has never worked properly and i shouldn't be charged. Last week it quit cooling again, so i called another company to ck it, surprise, its low on freon again, paid them to fill it. I have met with the owner and offered to pay for a whole new unit, ductwork,everything per their specs, less the $ i have put into this unit. Said he would consider it and after several attempts to get this settled, no such luck. Thinking this would be a neutral way for both of us to resolve the issue and i have an air conditioner that would work for more than 30 days at at time. This last time, they even threatened to turn me over to a collection attorney for a bill that was to ck and refill freon in this same unit. Really! Last summer i purchased a new 4 ton unit for my 1st floor from another HVAC company and works great. The unit is a Trane 20 seer dual compressor unit. Its the bomb! It reached 102 with high humidity one day this summer and it never missed a beat, it froze me out of my home. It would pretty much cool as much as you want. Bad news its very pricey , but as of now, worth every dime!!!! Looks like i will be call this HVAC company to install another one of these upstairs to replace this 2 ton piece of junk! The tech never checked my pressures. he dis a 30 second cleaning of the unit. never checked the drain for blockage, I change my filters all the time. but he never looked at the filter. Needless to say I will not renew this agreement in the fall. My experience says stay away.

The expensive $13K+ HVAC system installed is NOT ENERGY STAR RATED and has always been problematic, delivering extremely high energy bills in winter months, using the EXPENSIVE electric heat strips CONTINUOUSLY! Another year has passed with my home being very uncomfortable in cold temperatures causing me to resort to using space heaters....NOT WHAT I WAS ASSURED OF!
