Like Carly, I have no clue why this is rated so poorly! I live in Manhattan, so it's difficult to even go out and carry a bunch of groceries back to my apartment. Plus, all these bodegas are so expensive! I started looking around for delivery services and, of course, came across Fresh Direct. I ordered from them once but wasn't impressed with the quality and the price was just as much as I would normally spend. So the next time, I searched around a little more and found Peapod. I probably spent about 35% less on the groceries and the quality was just as good! I couldn't be happier. I waited 3 weeks for a delivery for my elderly parents who cannot leave their home (because of COVID), and when it finally arrived, 80% of the order was missing because the items were "out of stock"! The groceries are reasonably priced and - except for produce - of good quality. THE DELIVERY IS TERRIBLE. I have ordered from Peapod about 10 times. Each time I'm suckered in by a coupon for free delivery. I have yet to receive groceries that are not 90 minutes late. Once I called at the end of my delivery window and discovered that the driver had JUST LEFT MY BUILDING FOR ANOTHER ORDER. Then he had three stops across town. Then he was coming back to me. The driver explained that the orders are not prioritized according to zones, but depend on who placed an order when. So if you place an order a day after your next door neighbor, they'll get their groceries...and a few hours later, the same driver/same truck will deliver yours. This is ridiculous. How does this company stay in business if that's how their delivery system works? Why don't they learn from Amazon? read more

Tired of shelping groceries from Manhattan or other parts of the Bronx I decided to try grocery delivery services. I started out with Fresh Direct and I was generally happy with their service but their prices are high and the delivery schedule in the Bronx is limited to two half days. I was lured to Peapod because of the low prices that are about half that of Fresh Direct and they are sometimes lower than the local supermarket. I usually shop by buying mostly sale items and Peapod has thousands to choose from so I was able to get nearly everything for a really good price. It's much like shopping at a full size suburban supermarket in the city. I also really like how you can shop online for groceries by selecting only sale items, using a previous shopping orders and selecting items that are currently on sale. I also like being able to sort items by unit price and other options. The mobile app is also really great and easy to use, which makes it possible to shop just about anywhere. The only thing that could be improved is the graphic design, but it's only an aesthetic, not a functional issue at all. I was notified by text when the driver was on his way and when he arrived, which is a cool tool. My only issue was that he took all the groceries out of the insulated boxes instead of keeping them in there and wheeling them over with the cart so we had to make trips back and forth from the truck down the street. If you have wheels use them! It's a great invention. He was however extremely polite. Also, they were out of a few items out of the many I purchased including bread. I was not offered a substitution or called beforehand, which was disappointing and silly from a business standpoint since this is a really easy way to lose customers that could be easily rectified in multiple ways. Overall, I will probably stick to Peapod because of the prices, sales and selection, but there are a few issues that need to be sorted out for this service to dominate the market. More promotion and a larger first time shopper discount would also help to increase sales. Update: I got everything on my second order at great prices. I understand limited supply at this time but......... I ordered quite a few items and went on the site 20 mins before the cutoff to adjust the order for out of stock items and again after cutoff the check on items. This morning I received the confirmation and only a 1/4 of the items are being delivered. The items that are out of stock are still showing as available on the website. Waited 10 days for a delivery that only contains a couple of the meat and frozen items that I ordered. Don't bother ordering (assuming you can even get a delivery time slot) because their inventory on the website is wrong! Use another service. read more

Terrible! Tried this for the first time and was very hopeful. They forgot 3 of my main items for dinner for the week, and sent the wrong items. Customer service showed no empathy whatsoever. In fact, I still haven't been refunded for the cream cheese they forgot. What's the point of this service if you have to go to the store anyway? I would not recommend trying peapod. I'm pissed thus BS company even has my personal information now, and you can't call customer service to have it deleted due to a "Nation wide outage" which is bullshit. There is no Nationwide outage, what there is is an abundance of angry customers pissed off because peapod wanted to go and cancel deliveries COMPLETELY due to bad weather. At first signed up with peapods and they had my delivery address down for the wrong state so after 2 and 1/2 hours of being on hold for customer service they finally had my address corrected but that meant that my delivery day was pushed back a whole 24 hours. Two days later I get a text message saying that my delivery time would be pushed back 6 hours, and then not even half an hour later I get a text message letting me know that my order had been completely canceled and then I needed to reschedule as soon as possible. The closest delivery time? FUCKIN FRIDAY?! MY FAMILY HAS COVID AND WE'RE TRYING TO STAY OUT OF THE STORE, well, looks like I'll have to double mask up and make it there myself. I have been waiting for my groceries since 4:30pm on March 3, 2020 (yesterday) and now 6 HOURS after my scheduled delivery window 4:30pm - 10pm) I am STILL waiting for my groceries but after 12am was no longer able to check the status of my order. No one called me or emailed me to inform me about any kind of serious delays or cancelations and I have not been refunded my money. I rely on peapod for my groceries because I am a full time caretaker for my mom who is battling cancer. I don't have time to go out and shop for groceries and now there is absolutely no food in my house! I had just enough to get through the day yesterday and now I have no idea what I am going to do. I can't just go out and buy food at the store because I have no one to look after my mom while I am gone and even if I did have someone who could do me that favor I can't afford to spend another $200 on groceries!! I am not rich, my job is being a full time caretaker for my mom so I don't get paid much and rely on my moms pension and social security checks for groceries and bills which in case you are not aware medical bills are insane for ER, ambulance, and for surgical procedures! People like me who are in this kind of situation DEPEND on services like peapod and expect their deliveries to be made on time! The fact that your drivers FAIL to even call the people they deliver to when there is a delay at all is unacceptable! I have a tight schedule full of Dr and chemo appointments for my mom that can NOT be rescheduled and very few days where we are actually at home so having ANY deliveries as important as this get delayed with absolutely no communication at all is not only unacceptable it is also unprofessional! I will keep waiting until 10am today (March 4, 2020) and if I still have no groceries I will be demanding a refund for every last penny I had to spend on my order and will NEVER use peapod again!! If I were to include a photo, it would be of me pulling my hair out of my head after trying for too long to get the computer interface to work. There is almost always something that goes wrong -- some kind of glitch -- and it is incredible that in this day and age, the supermarket can't come up with a good strategy for effectively offering a delivery or curbside service. Humans have flown to the moon, and we have put a robot on Mars. You would think that we would be able to get a gallon of milk delivered down the street. Peapod management, you need to try harder and simply do better. Your computer interface is too glitchy. The password reset doesn't work, and I can't order groceries. Not sure what all the bad reviews are about. This is my 3rd time ordering with them, i do buy more frozen veggies, nature's promise meats, ground turkey, ground beef. Also, tons of juices, diet cokes (too heavy to carry for city living). I also got their store brand (nature's promise) for wraps, ricotta, mozarella shredded, penne pasta--it's very high quality and usually whole wheat/organic. Tip: Try their frozen collard greens--it puts kale to the test!! Amazing. What i ordered for $100 was way better in quality than my local grocer. Fresh Direct would've have cost 2x for the same items. I go Peapod--cheaper and great quality items. Delivery was scheduled for 7am-9am--they arrived 8:30am. The delivery guy was courteous and hardworking--i tipped him well as he deserved it on a cold brrr morning. I also think it's inhumane that some Gen-Y folks wouldn't tip in this situation...oops diverting. I wish there was option for zero stars. I don't use this service and nor will I after reading the reviews. However my complaint is not about their services. It's about the fact this company hires degenerates to work and drive their vehicles. I just witness a driver on Stuart St in Boston text as he was driving! This is one against the law and two very dangerous to himself and others around him! Please be careful if you see a peapod truck in Back Bay! I have also seen workers post on social media sites about how they are getting high while on the clock. I don't know what type of company they're running but this is just unacceptable by all means. I just tried calling PeaPod to submit a claim of the driver however, there was a 45 minute wait. Peapod would be a good idea if you only wished to purchase tinned and laundry goods, definitely not fresh produce or meat. Meat was use within two days, salad was next day, some of the Asparagus had seen better days. Upon contacting them about the expiry dates of the meat this is their reply "We apologize for any concerns regarding our product dating guidelines. Peapod adheres to the following product dating guidelines for ground beef. The used by/freeze by date is 2 days after delivery. The ground beef does fall within our guidelines. Please keep this in mind when ordering ground beef in the future." It wasn't only ground beef that expired within the two days. We used Peapod for the convenience of the deliveries and the intro codes which gave free delivery and discounts. The deliveries were on time both times but the quality of the fruit and vegetables was extremely poor - like others apples were bruised and not just one but the whole bag. Our emails to customer service were returned and we were refunded our money within days which was impressive. We use Peapod for pretty much everything but fresh fruit and veg. Their prices are good and everything else we have ordered has been very acceptable. Obviously NJ residents get delays but in NY we haven't had a problem. read more

If I could leave a zero star review I would They have seriously gone down the drain. HORRIBLE delivery. They give you a 2 hour delivery window that they rarely make. I think they greedily overbook those times and there's no way the drivers can make all those deliveries. They will change your delivery time with no notice like you have nothing better to do than sit around and wait for them to finally deliver. And this is a consistent thing. They are more consistently late than they are consistently on time. Lately they have also messed up my order. I find food that I never ordered and things I do order never arrive. Calling their 888 number is a study in patience because wait times are horrific. I am moving soon where I will no longer need this service and I am very grateful to never have to use them again. If I could give zero stars, I would. After waiting more than10 days for our $300 Peapod pickup order, we were given less than 1/3 of the items, the night before a major holiday. Certain sections of the store appear to have been completely bypassed, e.g., produce, dairy, freezer aisle, etc... Consequently, my family had no bread, eggs, or milk for the holiday. When I called the Enola, PA store, the manager-on-duty told me I was lucky to have received 1/3 of the order since most of his staff were new, didn't understand or know half the products, etc... When I questioned why they suddenly had no apples, no broccoli, no bread, and so on, the manager began searching the store, and agreed that the picker must have either "missed the items" or just run out of time. Apparently, the order pickers are given a very narrow window in which to shop each order! If you have a large order, forget about it! I have since attempted to phone Customer Service several times, but there are 1hr-long waits, and if you are foolish enough to wait the hour, you typically get a very rude employee in the corporate office who gives you a lecture about how this is a pandemic and you're lucky to receive any groceries! Also, despite promising that I'd receive a call back from a corporate manager, I have never received one. I've also tried to email Ahold about the Peapod experience but to no avail. I only received an email reply 10 days later, telling me I have to "call customer service" because they don't deal with customer issues via email. So,good luck! Prior to the Peapod experience, when I shopped in person at Giant, there were many pricing errors and lots of items out-of-stock. No one wants to be charged $11.00 for a bunch of grapes or $10 for fish that was supposed to be on sale for $7.99, but these are exactly the types of errors that occurred on a regular basis. When I would question these errors, I got a lot of pushback from cashiers. I guess they think that because we're in a pandemic the customer should simply accept whatever pricing errors the store or the cashiers make. In most cases, they would refuse to correct the error while I was still checking out, and insist that I had to go to the service desk for a "refund." However, once at the service desk, I would have to wait another 15-20 minutes while certain frozen items melted. Although my family used to love Giant, we have decided that at least during the pandemic, we have far better options with much better customer service, better order pickers, and mostly, better prices. In Central PA, both Wal-mart and Wegman's do a very nice job with online orders. We will not return to Giant anytime soon or at least until this pandemic is over! read more

For the most part, Peapod delivers basic groceries, usually within their delivery window (though, one time, they delivered an hour early, never rang my doorbell, and just left the items outside! Glad I just happened to open the door a few hours later. The Peapod CSR was very nice and credited most of the items - frozen, dairy, meat - that sat outside without refrigeration for a few hours). My bigger issue is the freshness of the products. It seems that dairy products are relatively close to their expiration dates and produce goes bad quickly. It's as if Stop and Shop stores might remove older goods from their shelves and send them to Peapod to be used for delivery customers. There are better options with Target (for paper goods, cleaning products) and Fresh Direct or Fairway (for groceries/meats/dairy). read more

Incredibly disappointing delivery service. I am a regular customer bc they have low prices and offer a nice and affordable organic brand. However, they are consistently late with deliveries. Last night my order was scheduled for delivery between 5-7pm. I received a call that they would be late (as usual) and quoted a new arrival time of 7:45-8pm. My order didn't arrive until 10:45pm! No one bothered to contact me with updates. I had to call them to see if I was ever getting my order. If I were not available during the delivery window, they would have charged me a $50 restocking fee. I was offered $10 off for a delivery nearly 4 hours late. Beyond being so late, my order was missing multiple items. I won't be using this service in the future and do not recommend it. Peapod is the worst. Every time I order from them the delivery is always late by 2-4 hours. Tonight, I was home for my delivery window (6-8pm in Brooklyn) and was on the phone with a client. Peapod apparently contacted me to say the driver had arrived (on time, how magnanimous) so I called them back to say I'm home (plus, I live in a building with a 24 hour doorman). The CSR was rude and blamed me for not picking up the phone and told me to either reschedule or cancel the order. I asked my doorman if a Peapod/Stop n Shop driver came into the building at around 7:14pm (the time of the call) and he said no. So that means, the driver didn't even attempt to deliver. Last 3 orders late, today looks to be the same. Two weeks ago, order arrived at 10 pm that I had expected between 5 and 7. Emailed them today and said if it's late today, this will be the last time. I changed to a weekend day hoping they could stick within the 2 hour window, but today they said at least 15 minutes late. I said stop offering a 2 hour window if you cannot stick to it. Previously I had no problems from them, but this year has been bad. Last 7 orders they were late on 5. The one that arrived at 10 pm. was past the time we even went to sleep.
