My senior cat was suffering from advanced arthritis and was in a lot of pain. I was referred to Dr. Gaynor by my regular vet for advanced stem cell therapy. It was not a fun process to go through, having to put my senior cat under general anesthesia (always risky) for the fat sample extraction, but in the end, it was totally worth it. The stem cells are injected, and then it takes approximately 90 days for the full effect of the treatment. I waited until 4 months to do this review. The treatment was successful for my cat and it has made a big improvement in the quality of his life, as he has much less pain and more mobility, and is generally more like his old self! Dr. Gaynor has another veterinary partner that he works with to perform some of the procedures. There was a bit of communication breakdown in regard to my cat's previous veterinary records and his negative reaction to certain medications. But overall, I was very happy with the experience of working with Dr. Gaynor. I made an appointment for plasma infusion with Dr Gaynor.I do not not know if the therapy works, however I will give you a quick briefing on my visit. My dog Chloe has had bilateral orthopedic surgeries on her knees (equivalent of human knee replacements) over the past two years. Even with surgery, she was poorly ambulatory. It is very difficult to see something you love in significant pain daily. The majority of her life since I adopted her she has not been able to enjoy (let alone perform) normal dog activities (walks in the park, playing with her brothers or other dogs, etc). To top it off, I am a general practitioner small animal veterinarian. I had put her through physical therapy and various drug treatments (NSAID after NSAID) and still saw her in pain. It not only made me question myself as a veterinarian, but as a dog owner, too. I wondered if I had kept her from euthanasia when it may have been the right choice for her. I questioned my decisions daily. Chloe has been seen by Dr Gaynor twice now. We have added some new medications, laser therapy, and controlled exercise. Anesthesia is still scary, but I know I have the skills to handle any situation I may encounter. I am able to take the knowledge he gave me and help many other animals who I do believe would otherwise be suffering, like Chloe was. Dr James Gaynor was referred to me by a friend who is a vet and trained under Dr Gaynor. My 14 year old retriever mix named Molly had become increasingly arthritic, requiring medicines that were hard to give to her and detrimental to her liver. I sought Dr Gaynor out while in Summit County. I would have done it sooner but I only live here in the winter. Dr Gaynor Is a great teacher. He explained stem cell therapy and I was instantly convinced that I wanted that for Molly. Frank Ferguson's Testimonial Frank is an 8.5yr young albino, deaf Great Dane. We rescued Frank when he was 4 months old from a breeder who no longer wanted him because his hearing and possible vision impairment. Frank has always been a playful pup and when we started realizing his older brother Leroy was showing his age and not being as playful, we decided to adopt Frank a brother/companion he could play and bond with. That's when Tom, a piebald great dane came into our lives. The plan worked out great, they became instant brothers and played all day/every day. After a couple of years Tom grew a great deal and playtime started becoming rougher and unfortunately Frank injured his rear right leg. We took Frank into The Animal Care Center of Castle Pines to meet with his doc, DR. Johnathan Quint for radiographs and he referred us to an orthopedic specialist in Colorado Springs for further diagnostic evaluation. The doc in Colorado Springs took some more radiographs of Frank's leg and assumed Frank may have injured/torn his ACL and suggested us doing a TPLO on Frank. Frank at the time, was favoring his leg but he would still apply pressure/weight bearing to the leg. He only favored it on strenuous occasions. It was not a complete tear, to where he was not be weight bearing at all, it did not get to that point. So, we decided to opt out of the TPLO at that time and try some more alternative routes. Then, we decided to go to The Animal Care Center for his rehabilitation and it was the best decision we could have made. The staff at the clinic took so much time and care into Frank's injury and were such a great deal of support for my husband and I through this journey. Throughout a two year span of PT, laser, treadmill, swimming & massage, Frank showed a lot of improvement and just loved all the attention, affection and peanut butter Kristen and Kelli would give him. Frank would get so excited to come to every appointment! Frank came in for a follow up appointment with Dr. McVicker and the conversation of Stem Cell Therapy came up because of the flyers they offered in the exam room. I adopted my my dog Taj when she was 3 so I don't know a lot about her past. What I do know is that she has mild to severe arthritis in her knees and elbows. I sought out Dr. Gaynor to help make her more comfortable. Dr. Gaynor was kind and patient with both Taj and I. He gave me all my options and possible outcomes. Seamus is an adopted Lhaso Apso with severe hip dysplasia and arthritis. Dr. Gaynor has helped with medicine changes, encouraged canine physical therapy at K-9 Body Shop, and (yesterday) injected Arthramid into his hips and elbow. We'll see if that helps in a few weeks! Through it all, Dr. Gaynor has been so helpful and never pushes more expensive treatments. He prefers to start with simple, and move to more complex if need be. Our two Norwegian Elkhounds needed help for various reasons. Shadow, our old boy age 13-1//2, had suffered from a broken back at the tender age of two and needed surgery. Over time, he developed severe arthritis around his hardware and his activity level had dropped when we retired him from climbing 14ers at age 11. Oslo, our 7-year old suffered from undiagnosed tremors and alternating lameness. He was suspected to have doggie Parkinson's and he also had Limes Disease before. Oslo had gotten so bad that we weren't sure if he would make it. The stem cell treatments were hard on both at first, especially on our old boy Shadow. After the initial difficulty and about two months into the treatment there was a miraculous turn around. Shadow increased his distance on hikes until he managed to go 5 miles again and even the occasional 8 miles. He became playful, throwing his toys around and clearly full of spunk. Dr James Gaynor is as good as it gets! I took our cat Vinnie to see Dr Gaynor because of arthritis. He came highly recommended by our long time local Veterinarian. Dr Gaynor is very knowledgable about pain related issues and very through in explaining what he is recommending and why. We have been taking our 12 year old lab mix, Sunny, to Dr. Gaynor for less than a year and the improvement in her mobility has been astonishing! As with many big dogs, Sunny has hip pain and arthritis, as well as arthritis in a knee on which she had surgery when she was 5. Dr. Gaynor immediately got her on medication that reduced her pain and allowed her to be more mobile. My dog, Cooper, was able to participate in Dr. Gaynor's stem cell trial. Cooper is 11, a golden/border collie mix, who doesn't know when to stop chasing balls and sticks. I wish I had known about Dr. Gaynor earlier, but am thankful we know now! My Australian Shepherd, Lola, fell through glass at 3 years old. After my 13 year old lab developed arthritis in her front elbow and could no longer take long walks due to a limp, my vet referred me to Dr Gaynor. Kloe had also had ACL surgery on both back legs earlier in her life also causing additional arthritis. Putting my 13 year old dog under twice in 3 days didn't sit real well with me, but Dr Gaynor was very convincing and confident we would be back to taking 1-2 mile walks so b/c Kloe still has a lot of energy for her age I decided it was worth a shot. We haven't taken a 2 mile walk in several years, but even close to a one mile walk would be great. Immediately following the stem cell and Arthramid injections I got her home, gave her dinner and her meds and within a 1/2 hour her legs turned to jello and she couldn't stand on her own. I was completely beside myself thinking I had put my dog in her grave when I had only been trying to help her. I tried to reach Dr Gaynor but only received an email back saying to not worry and she would be fine. She couldn't go to the bathroom and I had to carry my 70 lb lab from room to room because her legs were completely useless. That is the worst experience we have been through in 13 years. Neither of us slept that night. Fortunately within 24 hrs the odd reaction between her meds and the treatment (I think) wore off and she was finally able to stand on her own again, although a bit unsteady for awhile. Weeks went by and I kept being told to be patient and give the treatment time to work, all the while feeling like Kloe had actually gotten a bit worse and defintely wasn't showing these amazing signs of improvement. Several months later, still nothing, the stem cell lab offered a free stem cell treatment via IV. Because it didn't reqire Kloe being put under, I gave it a shot after being told that sometimes pets have a better response the 2nd time around, but again, nothing. I feel foolish for buying into a story that my dog would be back to taking 1-2 mile walks and feel like i paid thousands of dollars for her to be part of a failed science experiment. If your pet is old, save your money, don't put them under and through surgery for no reason and take them swimming instead if they are a water dog. Kloe swims at least twice a week, it is great exercise and great for her joints and to help her stretch her legs and she loses her mind with excitement every time. We no longer take walks less than a year after trying this treatment. read more
