Brought my two small dogs here to give them some playtime while I was out snowboarding the nearby Keystone resort. Since I live in California and was only visiting, I didn't have a chance to visit the facilities in-person until I dropped the pups off for their stay. Luckily, it wasn't an issue as it was a clean, spacious, and secure space where I felt confident my dogs would be cared for. I was right :) Kelly and the rest of the staff were so friendly and attentive to my doggies, they had a great day! My dogs frequently travel with me and have been to dog day care facilities all around-- I can tell when they've had a fun day....and at The Dog Chalet, they had a blast! One of my dogs (who is normally a Velcro-clingy dog, even to the point of an occasional separation anxiety fit) even whimpered as we left because she wanted to stay and keep playing.... I couldn't believe it. It's a nice touch that their prices are great for the level of TLC they provide. I'll definitely be back to board my dogs here again, hopefully later this season when there's more powder at the resorts! read more

These may be your policies, but certainly not what happened to our dog when she was in your care. We picked up Sade and she was covered in dried diarrhea. It was appauling and your staff did nothing to help. We had to take Sade upstairs to the groomer to wash her after your staff said she was new and that bathing our dog was not part of her job. When we finally got Sade into an emergency vet, the vet diagnosed her with a bacterial infection that could have taken her life if left untreated. I see this is such a priority to you, as it took over a year and a half to respond to my review and complaint. read more

Did 2 days of dog daycare here. The facility has a small dog room that also leads outside to an outdoor area. Inside the dog room there appears to be bathroom like stalls where the canines can enter or possibly be confined in. I stated my dog prefers to play with smaller dogs and is more hesitant and cautious with bigger dogs She immediately states that there are no separations of small or large dog sizes or other play groups depending on play style. She was not friendly or welcoming. Day 1: my dog came out to the gate when called by the staff member appearing to have a good day. Day 2: a mid-aged male staff member called my dog's name and asked for a description. My dog did not come out to the gate. He asked if that dog is our dog, pointing at the dogs that ran and gathered to the gate; and we said no, and he made a joke saying "uh oh where could he have gone?" and "maybe he went outside." After calling my dogs name over and over at the gate, he then saw a dog peeking his head out of the bathroom stall area, and laughed, asking us to come to the gate to look. My dog appeared shaggy, fur dampened and did not want to come out of the bathroom stall confinement area even when I called him. The staff member said to do the check out process first since my dog wasn't coming out, and because there was a lot of loud barking, he closed the door on the dog gate. At this point, there is no staff to supervise any dog interactions. To me, that is unsafe. Anything could happen in a matter of seconds. And if he thought my dog was in the outdoor play area, there was no supervision from staff there either. My dog was clearly uncomfortable and/or tired and was hiding in the stall and did not even want to come out. It makes you wonder what kind of supervision the dog daycare attendants do, what precautions they take, and if they are observing dog behavior. I understand there can be staff shortages, but to say the facility has supervised dog day care when it is actually not fully supervised can make it a unsafe environment. My dogs fur was damp, possibly from a lot of dog saliva or snow, and he smelled like a dirty bathroom. His back paw had a small red bump/bruise at the knuckle and the same paw had a nail with dried blood. He possibly got his foot stuck or banged it on something. I did not get a good vibe from this facility on day 1, but only to confirm on day 2 that I will never board my dog here again. read more

If it was possible to give this place no stars, I would. They are terrible at communicating and will not inform you if they cancel your reservation that you have booked at least a month out. They have completely derailed my trip that was booked because there is no other place in Dillon that boards dogs. And not to mention that it's a weekend so the surrounding places that I may have been able to possibly get a spot for my dog on my VERY long ride here, has been booked. -10/10 do NOT rely on them for your dog. read more

Just drove 11 hours for a trip that was scheduled for over a month. Had reservations to board my dog for five days that I made 2 weeks ago and without any warning they canceled my reservation and are closed for the next four days. Really great of them to give me a heads up(sarcasm). Not sure what to do but this is a huge inconvenience and I highly recommend using any other service as this is not an appropriate way to run a business. Super disappointing. read more

Really they deserve zero stars. We boarded our dogs there and they decided to put them in an open room with no outside access all night and then got mad they went to the bathroom inside, they left them alone in a room with no run from 5:30 to to morning. This is NOT a boarding facility . The owner is rude and has no business running a dog daycare. If you are going to board dogs you need runs. Our dogs are super mellow and they were stressed during the stay and apparently acted out but have never acted the way described for us. I asked them to put our dog in stall after multiple phone calls from them complaining about our dog, they said they were booked... I made my reservations weeks in advance and again don't board dogs if you can't properly provide a safe and comfortable space for them. read more

Thank you, Don, for taking such good care of our Faye on July 1, 2014. While vacationing in Dillon, we had a day activity where we could not take Faye with us. Before leaving Faye for the day, we visited the facility and met Don, introduced Faye to him. We felt comfortable that Faye would be in good hands. Our only hesitation was small size of the outdoor play yard if there would be a lot of dogs attending, especially if they were large. However, at the end of the day, Faye was happy and tired out after a fun day at doggie daycare. The facility is clean and the dogs who were there seemed happy and well taken care of. It was obvious how much Don loves animals which gave us a comfortable feeling. Our dog Brady really likes it here. He needs something to do, since Vail Resorts doesn't he let him snowboard with us. Dog Den is convenient day care for canines when owners are hitting Keystone or even other I-70 resorts further west. Just remember to leave enough time to pick 'em up! This is a nice local owner run operation offering day care and other services for summit county doggies and also visiting "city"/out-of-town dogs in ski season. Just be sure your dog behaves and *plays nice* since all the dogs are pretty much in one group, and they require reservations and all the usual vaccinations/shots, etc. It's a nice, clean, super well-maintained business where your buddies are supervised during play and socializing. Dogs play indoors and out, ALL day long and then chill out for some nap time - they are never put in any standard kennels! read more

My dog spent the day in day care. He came out in fine shape so all is well...but I did not get a good vibe from this place. It's now called the Dog Chalet and has a new owner (two years?). I cut my ski day short on purpose because I didn't feel comfortable with the situation...one girl watching two rooms full of dogs and working the desk. I am willing to pay...for peace of mind. Don, and the Dog Den, took phenomenal care of our high maintenance puggle, Missy. Missy can be a bit of a pain, though she is good off lead, and we are always nervous about leaving her with other dogs. Not only did Don for us in last minute, he was calm and clearly the "leader of the pack" that our dog needs to feel safe. He is extremely knowledgeable and is obviously not only a dog lover, but a dog expert. We are thrilled to have found the Dog Den, and will be regular visitors. read more

Don't take your dog here if they bark. My small 15 pound dog has been put on the "watch list" because he barks too much when we leave him for the day to go skiing. We've taken our pup to multiple doggy daycare centers because we always travel with him and we've never had complaints before. Of course he barks! He's a dog. It's what they do. I really get the feeling that his barking is deemed unacceptable because it is higher pitched because he's a small dog. I won't lie... sometimes his bark can annoy his Mom and Dad but it's literally their job to deal with that sort of thing. Short of biting other dogs or destroying property I think banning a dog from any location is ridiculous but particularly dumb that it's because he barks. We've only gone on weekends so I don't know if services are different during the week. I will note that every other place we've ever left him, the employees immediately get down on his level and talk to and pet him. That immediately calms him down and he's usually a little bit more calm about going with them. The girl that works weekends has never done that and I think that says a lot either about her opinions of animals in general or maybe it's just small dogs that she dislikes. Either way we won't be returning and I suggest you think twice about leaving your pet with them because they will call and ask you to pick them up early if they "don't calm down." read more

I am not a personal "fan" of the owner nor his employees, but I do know that my dog has done very well at Dog Den. I hate to see DDD, or an employee, get a bad review based on one person's assessment. We only are hearing one side of the story here, and there are always two sides. Took Sadie, our 8 month old shepherd mix here while snowboarding up in the mountains. When we show up she seems very excited to go in and is exhausted when we pick her up. They have and indoor area and fenced outdoor area for the dogs. Love this place and will definitely be taking Sadie here every time we head up to the mountains to board! read more

I took my older Weimaraner here for day care, and I don't feel like she got very attentive care. I spoke to Don on the phone and he was very friendly, but when I dropped her off, another man was there, he took one look at her and seemed to write her off. She has a bit of nervousness and since this was a new place for her, she was shaking a bit, but still happy. He immediately asked me for my phone number (although it was on all the paperwork) in case he needed to call me to pick her up early. At this point, we had been there for about two minutes and he didn't spend any time with her. He was quite rude and unwelcoming, and didn't make me feel comfortable at all. The other dogs there seemed happy and well cared for, so I decided to leave her. Upon leaving, I asked (since I had never been there before) "Is there anything else I need to leave with her?" which I felt was a fair question, and he looked back and said "I don't know, is there?" I was just double checking to make sure he had everything he needed. She ended up spending the whole day there, but when I went to pick her up, he looked at me and said "Are you here for the gray one," not even calling her by name. He basically said that she was not welcome back to Dog Den. This might be a good fit for other dogs, but I don't feel like my dog, who only has slighter greater needs than a golden or lab, got any attention at all. He didn't ask me about her commands or how to make her comfortable, he just seemed completely burdened by the fact that I was leaving my dog in his care. Which made me feel very unwelcome. read more

We used the Dog Den for our two dogs for 5 days while skiing summit county and we could not have been more satisfied. The place was very clean , they do not use kennels and all of the employees we dealt with were both caring and professional all the way. I really thing our dogs enjoyed their time here and our older dog who is always pretty shy with new people seems to be a bit more social after spending the week here. This place is amazing, and has been a ski-savior for us. We've dropped our 1 year old GoldenDoodle off at the Dog Den a few times now, and she loves it. The place is very clean and well taken care of. The owners are incredibly nice- in fact, earlier this month the Vail Pass was shut down, as was the exit to Silverthorne due to a 25 car pile up. We were cutting it close to pick up our dog, but they waited for us to get there and gave us no troubles. We will be back! read more

My dog and I both love the Dog Den when we visit Summit County. Don has a excellent demeanor with the dogs and keeps them incredibly calm and quiet. My little dog is a bit timid and shy, and the staff have been very sensitive to that issue and will separate her from the group when she gets overwhelmed. read more
