The beauty rooms are at the back of the shop behind a sliding door, which keeps them quite private. The beauty therapists are wonderful and very knowledgeable. The hair salon is always clean and the staff are absolutely fantastic. They are always on hand if you need help/advice or just a simple fringe trim. There is also a nail bar which I have never used but it always looks like a real treat. I tried to resolve it with the salon and it went nowhere - so it's going to get blasted on Yelp. Such is life on the interwebs! We had two appointments booked simultaneously. I, for a pedicure, waxing and haircut... and my boyfriend to get a (manly version of a) pedicure and haircut. I guess I'll first say that his pedicure was done by someone else and was a positive experience. His haircut was subpar and the woman who did it did not really listen and cut a few too many inches despite us both telling her directly how many inches to cut. Since then he's been pretty unhappy with it. Tsk tsk. Men are pretty touchy about such things. Especially men who walk in with a lot of hair, but he sucked it up regardless.. Now moving on to my appointment.. I was told that my pedicure would be done on a table (weird) and without water (also weird) by a woman named Janice who I later found out was the owner/manager. Since there was no traditional pedicure chair or even a basin presented for soaking, it was painful. She poked me quite a bit throughout the process, and overall it was nowhere near the relaxing pedicure I had so hoped to receive. My boyfriend's feet did get a proper soak from another technician so apparently only Janice prefers to not use water. As a person she was nice enough, she made the usual small talk but it just was not relaxing and that sucked since it was *not* cheap and I had so looked forward to having a nice pedicure. The waxing she did was fine. The haircut I got from a woman I do not remember the name of was fine; it was just a trim. The real problem began when I got home and saw that all that poking on my feet that had stung so much started to hurt more and more... and the big toe in my right foot became infected. I had to treat it (blood, pus and all) for several weeks afterwards and it's actually still a bit of an issue as I type this. I keep my feet really clean and am very careful with where I go for pedicures, so it really frustrates me to have this kind of issue after the expense of it. I wrote to the salon a couple weeks after the appointment and let them know what the situation was and the owner (Janice) wrote back to briefly apologize and then repeatedly assert that she was the owner (good for you..) and to say I should come in for another appointment to look at the toe. I reminded her that 1.) I do not *live* in Edinburgh and 2.) I saw no point in another appointment for an infected toe, even if I did. I mean seriously? There was no response after that. Normally a place of business would offer to refund the service or something along those lines, but no. So I would not go back here, definitely not.

Only been for a leg wax so far but so far so good…read more I was a walk-in, work had been crazy and I kept forgetting (or not getting a minute) to book my usual salon. On the way home from work, the lights were on so I popped in. These guys are open Tues to Fri late which is great. My wax was done quickly and efficiently. The salon was lovely and clean and quite often, they are able to offer walk-in appointments. It was £20 for a half leg wax (a tad expensive compared to what I normally pay) but a good job was done. I'll probably come here again and I'd like to try other treatments to see if they deserve my 5* rating :-)

This was a few months ago and it's now the only place I go to in Edinburgh for a facial, it's amazing the magic Hollie works with her creams and potions! Each facial is specifically targetted to your own skin type and particularly problems (we all have our own issues don't we ;-). The staff are all incredibly warm and welcoming with a personal touch so you feel special from the moment you walk in the door. I also have to say after getting a manicure there it was the longest lasting one I've ever had. I normally can chip a good polish within a few days but this one lasted two weeks without one chip, which makes it really good value. As mentioned in the other review the free parking outside is also a great bonus, they have regular special offers (follow them on twitter or facebook for regular updates on deals), and they have a loyalty card which means money off on future treatments. What's not to love about The Zone!

I suggested the Waldorf Astoria in Edinburgh so we could visit the spa!! I phoned up few weeks before to book a massage & facial session then about 4 hours later, I received an email from the hotel concierge saying he could book things for us - including the spa with 10% off!!! Arghhhhhhh a discount!!! But the spa terms & conditions state I would lose money if I cancelled (so I could ask the concierge to rebook it with discount!) so we left it. The spa is lovely, reception is like a shrine to the guerlain products, there is a waiting room though quite small and they only had one toilet which seemed to be used by someone changing in there! We had got changed in our bedrock and put on the dressing gown n slippers that were in my room. First we had a foot spa, it was great, relaxing and lovely! Then we got taken to the treatment room where we had massage & facial. It was great!!! One of the best!! It is expensive but if you sign up to their mailing list, the hotel send out offers. I didn't book one of those but off the spa menu. We signed for it to the hotel then I told her the story bout the concierge offering me a discount after I'd already booked! The receptionist said 'why didn't you say!!' And reversed the charge and applied the discount! Awww so sweet!!! The food is good here too and in my opinion not very expensive. But you may feel less quantity depending on what you order. The staff is very courteous and very helpful too. It's a great scenic location with a large private area. The only con about this place is the distance from the main center. It is really far and if your itinerary has more around central Edinburgh then I would not recommend this place especially when they don't have a daily shuttle until the city center (They only provide until the metro station which is too early for noon and early evening returns only).
