Amazing experience kayaking across the Columbia River with my fiancee. We decided to do this on a whim when we saw other people kayaking while taking pictures from the Oregon side and it was only a short drive over to Washington and Peach Beach. The owner, Michael, was very friendly and responsive and even picked us up on the other end of the river. He said he donates all proceeds of his business to charity, so that's pretty cool. We went to rent 2 SUP's today and left because we were uncomfortable having our debit cards photographed. I'm sure there was no harm intended but it made us uncomfortable because we have never been asked to do that anywhere before. I received a text message from them this evening encouraging me to stop by the business on Wednesday to rent. I explained we had been there that morning and were not comfortable having our cards photographed (maybe this is normal for businesses of this type ‍), I meant the feedback to be helpful and the responses I received were not only unprofessional but nonsensical and insulting. Let me start with stating that I do not take the time to leave reviews but this was just ridiculous. I will also preface this with stating that I had not gone down to see this business in person but this is not why I am leaving this review. I had called ahead to simply collect some information such as; price, location and whether they were even open during this COVID-19 chaos. I was greeted with a very irritated gentlemen who said he was "extremely busy" and that I was "harassing him" when I have never even heard of the company and simply wanted to rent a kayak. The man proceeded to yell at me for asking question and responds with "look man I don't have time for 20 questions, you can come down and see everything for yourself before I block you". It was the most confusing interaction I have had with a business. I would have been more than willing to wait for him to free up or receive a call back. None of which I was offered, instead the man just proceeded to yell. I had then received a call back from a women who might have been a manager or someone (they really lack giving any information) who proceeded to ask me who I spoke with and if I have any questions as I hear the man I spoke with yelling in the back. I proceeded to explain the situation and my frustration as to how I am being addressed and all I am trying to do is rent a kayak and have gotten zero information. She proceeded to hang up... Looks like I won't even bother to come down and waste more of my time. To those reading this, take this for what it is. And the business who will or will not respond, I had people in the room who herd the whole conversation so don't try and claim it went any other way. Have a nice day. read more

I'm not really sure what to think about the 1 Star reviews, so I'm just going to share my experience with them. My friends and I spent the morning looking for a place to rent a kayak and we came across their business on yelp. The business is located right in the owner's (I'm guessing) front lawn and street parking wasn't an issue. $120 for a kayak for the day and it comes with life jackets and paddles. We were able to bring our dog along too! So it was me, my boyfriend, and our dog in the kayak while my friends used their own raft. He took a pictures of our IDs only, NOT our credit card, and he had us sign some forms for liability. I wish I remembered his name, but we had zero issues with him or the kayak. He came off very nice and hospitable. A tad eccentric, but you can tell he loved what he did. He rolled the kayak straight to the Columbia river himself, which from his house, was just down the street! What I don't understand is how he got the kayak down to the river and back cause there's a fairly steep drop from the trail to get to the river. It's totally doable for you and me, who don't have a big item like that to bring down but it can get tricky if you're carrying a lot of things with you. There's a climbing rope on the side to make the climb easier. Overall, a great experience! He told us to text him when we were done so he could come back to the river and bring back all the rentals himself -- and he did. So again, just very confused by the 1 star reviews. To us, he was very positive, kind, and accountable throughout our whole interaction. I would definitely come back here again whenever we're in the area! P.S. Be careful parking your car right next to the trail that leads to the river. We were told that people come back to their car being broken into! read more

10/10 recommend renting from Micheal. He is so happy and so nice and has the best costumer service. He carried are kayaks down and picked them up all by him self. He is very good at his job and I had so much fun kayaking. read more

Reiterating what everyone else has said, this was the worst experience with renting something I have ever had. I have never left a review, but had to with him. I called and asked to rent 2 paddleboards for 4th of july, ,he said ok no problem. he then texted me a link to pay and it was $60 each, when the website says $40. I responded that I thought they were $40 and was not going to book through him. A few hours later he texted me again and offered to rent the paddleboards at $40. I agreed, and everything was fine. My friend and I arrived and he asked for my ID, and then hers. She did not bring her wallet with her which we explained, but he would not let it go. I suggested to him that he should put that information on his website, so others know. He instantly got rude and defensive. we told him we would go get her ID (a 25 min round trip drive!) and left. In the 13 min drive home, he texted me about 5 or 6 times. He eventually told me he could refund the price, but I was driving and didn't respond until I got home. I texted him back and told him we were on our way, and he replied that he had already refunded us. I asked him to re-charge us, as we were on our way. He appeared to block me after, as I tried to call and it went straight to VM. My friend called and he answered, and we asked why he was not letting us come back. He was rude and hung up on us. Super frustrating, but ok we can figure out another activity. THEN later he will not stop texting my friend very intense information and the last straw was him sending her a video of him screaming and hitting himself. I had to call in a welfare check on the police as we were that worried about him. I decided not to write a review as I did not want to send him into another spiral. Today July 16, 12 days after that incident, I received a similar video of him screaming and hitting himself. I blocked him as I am not about to continue to be harassed, but needed to share--which it seems this is a common experience. So terrible, I hope no one goes to him again! read more

I was bringing kayaks back up from the river and parked in front of his "friends" home and this man was yelling profusely that we could not park in front of the house and we told him we were loading a kayak on the car and he was like I don't give a f*** I'm going to call the cops that's my friends house and we can't park there. I kept reminding him that we are not parking there we are simply loading a kayak up and we will be out of the way in less than five minutes and he just kept yelling. Mind you, I am a woman and he was cussing at me telling me he doesn't give a shit. Saying he was going to knock someone out and he's going to call the cops. Called to inquire about renting a paddle board with my mom place sounded great guy was super nice and imformative on the phone. A few hours pass by and i check my phone i have about 6 text messages from the business phone saying rude comments and how people are terrorizing his business ect. I text back a simple message of we just called to ask about the paddleboards and it wasnt us. No response cool got that out and it should be done correct , No about 30 minutes later i recieve a video message tagged with 9 other people i opened it and watched it and it was disturbing im not gonna say what it was but it was not good for his mental health. So after seeing the message i wanted to go there and check on him but it was already 10pm so i said i would go this morning. I arrived at the property to check on the guy and they were closed which was perfect cause maybe we could talk and i could help him through what he was going through.the gate was locked so i said hey a few times no anwser. I waited about 20 minutes outside the gate trying to get in contact with someone. Finally the guy walks up to the gate and starts cursing at me saying there closed today and to fucking leave and i just wanted to check on him so i stop recieving harassing and disturbing messages but he interrupted everything i had to say in that short moment. Moral of the story if you dont want to be harassed dont call that business. read more

Hello! I am not one for reviews, but I simply had to get this off of my chest. On September 6, I and a group of friends wanted to go kayaking. This place happened to be the only place that had kayaks available (all other businesses were rented out for the day). And after an awkward phone-call (like other reviews), the owner, Michael, was pretty blunt and eager to end the phone-call. But given that it was Labor Day weekend, I gave him the benefit of the doubt--thinking he was just having a stressful/busy day. Hence, we went to rent kayaks, and it turned out that Micheal was a pretty laid back, cool kind-of-guy. After we rented the kayaks for the day, we went home to change before going out into the water. It is then that Michael texted us asking about his safety glasses. We did not see them, so we tell him that we did not see them. When we showed up to pick up the kayaks, Michael was pretty brash and kept to himself. The kayaking experience itself was beautiful. The kayaks were great; the weather was great; and it was wonderful experience to experience with my good friends. When we got back, however, I went over to thank Michael, and he accused me of stealing his safety glasses. Shocked, I did not know what to say. Then, he repeated himself and said that I stole his glasses. Given that I am a Mexican female (and am too aware of the stereotypes and racism that exist for Mexicans), I was angered that this man believed that I, the only Mexican in the group, stole his safety glasses. I am ashamed to say that I apologized to Michael for losing his glasses and did not fault him for blaming me. But he was persistent that I took them, which is when I started to combat him by REINSTATING that I did not take his safety glasses. Michael then says: "I don't know why you're so angry. You didn't steal my glasses." It is then that he pointed my other friend. Again, I was SHOCKED. He accused me first. Then, he asks my why I'm all worked up, and I say that he accused ME (a Mexican female) of stealing. And given that my friend DID NOT steal his safety glasses, we tried to reason with him. He said he had us on tape, hovering over the counter, where he believed he left his glasses. True, we were by the counter, but that's because we were signing waivers/paper forms and taking out our IDs (so yes, we used the counter because that's what counters are for). Knowing we did not take his glasses, we told Michael that accusing someone of stealing is a serious crime, so he should have evidence (which he claimed he did) to back it up. When we asked to look at the tape, he refused to show it to us. And we asked him MULTIPLE times to show us the tape. It got to the point where we felt comfortable with Michael to call the cops on us if he seriously thought we stole from him (which we did not, so we had nothing to hide). Again, he refused and said he was millionaire and only ran his business for charity. Thus one must ask themselves: IF HE IS A MILLIONAIRE, WHY IS HE CRYING OVER SAFETY GLASSES. I myself am not a millionaire. I am a school administrator, so I make decent money. But even I (not a millionaire) would not cry over glasses. We spent over $400 on this ordeal (we rented 4 single kayaks and 1 tandem), and this man believed that we did all of that to steal his safety glasses. How does that make sense? Spend $400+ money only to steal safety glasses?! Afterwards, Michael (the owner) stayed behind and told anyone within range that my friends and I were a group of thieves, which is frankly rude and inappropriate (especially if his business deals with customer service, and his apparent philosophy to go about it is to falsely accuse his customers of stealing and then telling the whole beach about it). As I post this, I know Michael will probably use the same lie that he has used with other customers who stand up to him. He'll probably say that he has no phone records of me, or he will simply call me a liar. But that's just who this man is: a liar who cannot recognize that he did something wrong. read more

I am not one to do reviews but this was NEEDED. If I can give a -0 I would. This person was ridiculous, not a proper company. We got our paddle boards my husband was on a meeting for work so he stayed in the car with the kids. He had said he needed to come to sign the paper work no big deal my mother in law switched places with him. We have never had a problem paddle boarding with our kids and no where in their paperwork does it say we can not take children. It was honestly no big deal. We said okay, he said we were being sneaky by not bringing the children down to pick up the paddle board. Who in Gods name would choose to bring children down and have them be a hassle?? I shouldn't have to explain myself either. We went down told us they couldn't ride it we said okay, we returned the 3rd paddle board since there was no use for it since one of us would have to be with the kiddos the entire time. Why keep it? He did not have an attitude or anything when we returned. Just an attitude that WE brought it back and that we didn't call him to grab it. He texted me during our time about taking care of the vests while we have them don't let them sit in the dirt. I made SURE that they were not in the dirt. I picked them up and put them on our beach chairs. I called him when we were finished with our paddle boards and he was talking to me about a personal problem that he was having. No big deal, I try to help or be an extra ear when someone needs it. He pulls the paddle boards up repeatedly throwing the life jackets everywhere. I was a little disturbed by the way he was treating his own property because I wouldn't be treated them like that. I return them no problem. I texted him later and asked if we were going to get a refund for the board we didn't use. He said no. The instant he brought them down to the beach is when our time started. I had no problem, he seems a little unstable so I didn't want any problems. He later tells me the vests was grossest he's ever seen. I was baffled because I took care of them like I was suppose to. If anyone was being not careful it was him. I would not recommend this place at all. read more

I honestly hopes this review saves someone from this poorly ran business, awkward time and overall awful day. We were accused of trying to hide that we had kids, which is odd as I was carrying our son as walked down to the water beside him as he delivered them. Pretty bad hiding if that was our intent. No where did we see the rule that he seemed to create on the spot that no one under seven could use them. Which is fine, that is for our safety. So we returned one board as we rented three boards one for each adult and now one adult needs to stay behind to supervise the kids, which again is fine due to safety. So we returned that extra board and were told that "welp you took it, doesn't matter for how long" which is insane as it was directly caused by the newly created "rule". So no refund for the returned board. AND if all that wasn't enough, he texted my wife hours later, later that evening, after dinner saying we left the life jackets disgusting and should be charged extra. He threw them up the hill after taking them from us. We were extremely kind to the life jackets and hung them up at every chance but not much we can do if you throw them in the dirt upon return. It felt like being stuck in a nightmare. Wish we could have avoided the whole thing and enjoyed LaCamas or basically anywhere else. I am the happy go lucky and love everyone type but I honestly hope this business gets shut down. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! read more
